2.0 TS 4dr Saloon

A real limo and a great cruiser. Or a decent sized load-lugger with the back seats down.

Bought this car when just under 1 year old (it's a hatchback). Supremely comfortable and whisper quiet at motorway cruising speeds - you can hold a normal conversation, hence my comments about a limo. Everything in the cabin feels solid and well placed. Difficult to fault. I've had a sofa bed in the back with the seats down, and regularly carry band equipment (amps, monitors, guitars, keyboard etc.) It actually holds more than my mate's Volvo estate.

Had two minor niggles (covered under warranty). Water ingress in the tailgate button, causing the tailgate to have a mind of its own. Also, key immobilizer receive unit failure, again, painlessly covered under warranty.

Only downside is the local Mazda dealer. Tried to charge me for spare top-up oil I didn't ask for or need. Also, the service manager doesn't know how a torque wrench works - all wheel nuts severely overtightened. (I had to use a 3ft extension bar to undo them, and then with some difficulty.) Service costs on the high side, usually more expensive than my Subaru Impreza.

Mazda have decided to drop the hatchback with their latest model. It's a saloon only now. Shame.
