It's a Ford - you know what to expect

When I bought this car my two main criteria were switching from diesel to petrol and for the first time, manual to automatic transmission. With advice from HonestJohn.com, I wanted a torque converter auto and a car with enough power to compensate for losing the "grunt" of my departing 2l diesel.

Having experienced problems with powershift boxes, Ford reintroduced torque converter boxes on the Focus from 2016 onwards ( Be careful if buying second hand, as many salespeople are not tuned into the technicalities of what type of autobox is in the vehicle!!). This 1.5 ecoboost gives around 150 bhp, so I have not missed my old diesel. The box is smooth changing and if you want extra power, the sport mode is effective when you need it.

The Focus remains a good all round package and scores well in all departments. If I am being picky, the boot space isn't brilliant but you do have the versatility of the hatchback. If you are not a "boy racer", go for the 16" wheel option, as this gives the best ride. And by the way, don't believe the outrageous mpg figures claimed by Ford - the best you will get out of this version is 35mpg.
