ford diesel engine model 2722E - loss of oil - dr j

I have the Ford Lehman/Dover 4.1L fitted in my boat; it suddenly lost half of the oil without any obvious signs of leakage. The dipstick was loose in its mounting tho'.

Could I have some form of blockage which is pressurising the sump??
