  • Last of the Pre-Summer Bargains at Auction 17 Jul 2002 (News)
A 25,000 mile 98S Nissan 200SX Touring wasn’t dear at £6,400. Neither was a 50,000 mile 99T Ford Cougar V6 at £6,750. But people who went for something specific had to pay for it. A repossessed 19,000 mile 99T Alfa 156 Twin Spark with a/c, alloys, leather and wood-rim wheel sold for £7,750.
  • World debut of new 911 GT3 R leads Porsche display at Autosport International show 10 Jan 2010 (News)
The stunning Porsche 911 GT3 R has been created for racing in series based on the international FIA GT3 regulations, and succeeds the 911 GT3 Cup S. It is powered by a six-cylinder ‘boxer’ engine of four-litres capacity, which produces 480 bhp (353 kW) transmitted to the rear axle via a sequential six-speed gearbox.   The Porsche Experience Centre at Silverstone has welcomed over 12,000 customers since the bespoke track facility officially opened its doors a year ago.
  • Heroes: Dan Gurney 30 Jan 2018 (News)
The company dates back to 1965, when Gurney and Carroll Shelby – who were already involved in a successful relationship as driver and team owner respectively of Shelby Cobras and Shelby Fords – joined forces to establish a new race car manufacturing company, which became known for its highly competitive Eagle racers. These were soon popular both in the USA and throughout Europe, driven by famous names like Bruce McLaren, Denny Hulme, Ritchie Ginther, James Hunt and many more.
  • What is the new car sales crash and what does it mean for buyers? 5 Jan 2018 (News)
Pre-registered cars are effectively surplus stock, sold cheaply to dealers who register them and then sell them on as ‘ex-demo’ or ‘delivery mileage’ cars. You can save up to 30 per cent off the list price of the UK's best-selling models, like the Ford Focus, Vauxhall Astra and Volkswagen Golf. Obviously, you don't get to spec the car yourself - as you would with a factory-ordered model - but if you're not fussy about the colour or trim then you can make huge savings, especially if you need a diesel for a high-mileage commute.
  • Comment: You never forget your first car 19 Dec 2016 (News)
You never forget your first car. Mine was a metallic green Ford Cortina, and I drove it everywhere. Over the kitchen worktop, along the skirting boards, over and under my pillow and occasionally around the school playground. I got it for Christmas in 1979, in one of those Matchbox boxes with the 'Superfast' artwork on the cover that was a lot more detailed than the model inside.
  • Brexit – What does it mean for classics? 18 Jul 2016 (News)
Indeed, those that have invested £10,000, say, in a classic car over the past few years will have done far better out of it than if they’d put the money in the bank, although this alone may account for some of the vastly inflated prices we’ve seen in the past couple of years, as the UK economy emerged from recession. Look at the humble Ford Capri, for example. Five years ago, three grand would have bagged you a good one. Today, you’re more likely to need around £15k. Investment is just one thing, though. Indeed, for many of us, it’s a bad thing, as it takes the cars we want to own for purely nostalgic purposes annoyingly out of reach.
  • The rise of British built cars 1 Jun 2016 (News)
However, these numbers are small fry when you look at the most popular of British-built cars on our roads. It's two traditionally 'British' cars that lead the way. The Ford Fiesta, built at Dagenham from its launch in 1976 until 2002, is the most popular with almost 1.5 million registered in the UK. Close behind is the Vauxhall Astra with more than 1.1 million on our roads.
  • MG Rover cars - time to grab a bargain future classic? 13 Apr 2015 (News)
Ultimate 75s and ZTs were, of course, the V8-engined models that were re-engineered for rear-wheel drive and which sold in only very low numbers (fewer than 900 cars in all) before MG Rover went bust. Powered by a 4.6-litre (260bhp) V8 from a Ford Mustang, these are among the ultimate modern-classic Q-cars. Pay £5000-8000 for one now (depending on mileage and condition) and enjoy a unique and thrilling British saloon. Finally, on the sports car front MG Rover gave us the TF from 2002, an update of the MGF featuring a new-look front end and coil-sprung suspension in place of Hydragas.
  • Is Drive it Day successful in getting the message across? 28 Apr 2014 (News)
Not just us on our run, nor the many cars that filed into Gaydon, but those who appeared to be just out and about pottering in their MGs, Jaguars, Triumphs, MGs and Fords. So, all's well in the world, and the classic car scene can hold its head high following the estimated 250,000 old vehicles that trundled out on to the Queen's highway yesterday, then. Should Keith need an excuse like Drive it Day to enjoy his Lancia Delta Integrale?
  • New classic car festival to celebrate the... unexceptional 24 Apr 2014 (News)
The paltry number of these cars either licensed or on Statutory Off-Road Notice is truly frightening. Remarkably, there are more Porsche 911s in daily use in the UK than there are Ford Sierras. The Unexceptional Era of roughly 1973-85 when you could have your car in any colour as long as it was beige, mustard or brown, when plaid seats, vinyl tops and bogus Rostyle wheels ruled.'
  • Croft Circuit Offers Cut Price BTCC Tickets as Christmas Presents 8 Oct 2011 (News)
Following that on Saturday 3 December comes another major highlight – a stage of the world-renowned Roger Albert Clark historic rally that recreates and features many of the famous rally cars from the RAC Rallies of the Sixties, Seventies and early Eighties such as Ford Escort MkI and MkIIs, Porsche 911s, Lancia Stratos, Vauxhall Chevettes, Mini Coopers and Saab 96s.   Nor is it over yet for two-wheel fans with a packed programme of race action scheduled for the weekend of 15-16 October from the visiting Derby Phoenix Motorcycle Club.
  • Renault Lowers its Average CO2 Once Again 13 May 2011 (News)
Costing only £12,450 with the optional pack included, the three-door Clio is the cheapest sub-100g/km supermini in the UK, a full £1,445 less than the equivalent low-emission *Ford Fiesta Econetic (£13,895 OTR) and a considerable £2,410 less than the *Volkswagen Polo BlueMotion (£14,860 OTR). With diesel now costing over £1.40 per litre, owners of its latest fuel-sipping Renault eco 2 model won’t have to visit the dreaded pumps very often, with an EC certified 949 miles between fill-ups.
