    December 2009 saw a rise of 38.9 per cent (150,936 cars) on the back of a exceptionally poor December 2008 and the fulfilment of scrappage orders, some of which had been ordered months before.  The Ford Fiesta finished both December and 2009 as the UK's best seller, with Focus taking both second spots. Insignia beat Mondeo during 2009, but was pushed out of the top 10 in December, the month in which Qashqai made a cameo appearance.

  Essex-based team, Mach 2 Racing, is entering the famous race up the Pikes Peak mountain in Colorado Springs, USA, with a 1,150bhp Ford RS200 driven by double ex-British Rallycross Champion, Mark Rennison. The 12-mile Pikes Peak course starts at 9,440 feet and ends at an altitude of 14,110 feet. Its 156 turns, mixture of asphalt and gravel surfaces and the sheer drops of up to 6,000 feet make it one of the toughest challenges in motorsport.

  Not this one, though. Top bud was £16,800 provisional. A rare 4,000 mile 03 reg Ford Maverick 3.0V6 XLT looked value at a top bid of £11,500 provisional. But if you don’t mind the miles you could have had a field day. On Monday a mate picked up a 2001Y but 130k mile BMW 530iSE Touring auto with leather but needing a bit of paint for £7,250.

  In the Motabilty section, a rare 20k mile 2000X Hyundai Trajet 2.0GSi auto sold for £7,350, a never seen before 3k mile 03 reg Ford Fusion 1 1.4 Durashift semi-automatic sold for £6,900 and a useful but non diesel 30k mile 2000X Berlingo Multispace 1.8 made £3,575. Amongst a mixed bag of Black Horse returns and repossessions, a 10k mile 02 reg Fiesta 1.4TDCI Zetec without a/c sold for £5,350; a 67k mile 96P Daihatsu Fourtrak 2.8 TDX SE sold for £6,400, a rare and rising 91k mile 92K Sierra Sapphire RS Cosworth with cloth seats sold for £4,350 and a 92k mile unwarranted 87D Volvo 340GL sold for all of £10.

  A 59,000 mile 97R 1.8 Sport sold for £6,050; and a 53,000 mile 97R Sport Turbo sold for £6,900. A 25,000 mile Ford Focus 1.6LX Estate with aircon was slightly off the plot, selling for £7,175 largely due to its doom blue colour scheme. But cheapie of the day had to be a scruffy 71,000 mile 98R Mondeo 2.0iLX with a/c in white, sold away for just £2,925.

  Plenty of money was being paid for most cars in the Fleet Sale at BCA Blackbushe today. Among the ex-daily rental stock, 2000X Ford Focus Zetecs with aircon and 13k to 14k miles were making £9,250. Similar mileage 2000X Mondeo 1.8 Zetecs were selling at around the £8,400 mark. 2000X Fiesta 1.2 Zetecs were around £6,000 and Ws around £250 cheaper.

  As a result, many cars which would normally have been disposed of at 10k to 15k miles and 9 to 12 months old are being de-fleeted at 20k to 40k miles and at up to two years old. There is still no such thing as a cheap Ford Focus. Typical was a two year old 36,000 mile 99T 1.8LX with a/c which sold for a huge £7,400 at BCA Blackbushe today. And if you think that was dear, a 15,000 mile 9 month old 1.8 Zetec made £8,900, a 23,000 mile 2000W Zetec 1.8 estate made £9,300 and a 14,000 mile 2000W Zetec 1.8 estate made £9,550.

  Christmas Day (25 December), Boxing Day (26 December) and the Monday bank holiday (27 December) could all turn out to be busier than normal for leisure trips this year – with around 4.5m journeys a day by car taken to see friends and family, compared to the average of around 3.5m for the same period since 2015(excluding 2020 research, which was affected by the Covid-19 travel restrictions).  INRIX also predicts some lengthy jams – delays of more than 45 minutes on the clockwise M25 between Gatwick and the M40 on Boxing Day, and of 80 minutes on the same stretch the following day.

  This includes a top end engine overhaul by Ninex Independent Porsche Specialist, including new drive belts, replacement of dry sump tank oil drain plug and new engine lid struts. This work came to a total nearly £8,000 in June 2015. Charles Ivey, Porsche Specialist in Fulham, have looked after the car over the last two years with details of their work on file. These models are collectable now and one in this mechanical condition is a great investment.

  They featured several unique accessories, including a built-in insulated food cabinet, electric kettle, Brexton picnic hamper and built-in Max Factor makeup tray. Alongside will be the Austin Se7en Deluxe, Vanden Plas. The only one in existence, it was built in 1960 by special order for Irene Austin, the eldest daughter of Lord Herbert Austin.
