    This is a summary by Paul Cassell of eBay sales on Sunday night. Over £2,000 A fully loaded Ford Mondeo TDCi Ghia X was one of the cars traded. From a list of around £21,000 this 37k mile three year old 2002/02 good condition burgundy example sold for £8,800 retaining 42% of its value, almost exactly the retained value predicted in Autocar.

    BCA’s star car, a beautifully restored 1988F Cortina 1600E in a shade of red no 1600E was ever originally painted sold for the estimated £8,800. Another 60’s car, this time a 7,000 mile 1969H Mini Cooper 1275S, originally owned by an associate of a famous East End ‘firm’ bit to a less than estimated £10,300. A nice 1958 TR3A bid to £8k, a 1966 Healey 3000 to £17.5k, a 1964 slant-eye Silver Cloud Mulliner coupe to £19.5k and a 1960 VW Karmann Ghia to £3,650.

    More than 58 years since the first speed trial was held in the grounds of the landmark hotel, the launch of the 2015 Chateau Impney Hill Climb will commemorate the venue’s motorsport heritage.   • Hyundai-KIA Now 4th Biggest Car Manufacturer 12 Aug 2009 (News)
    Based on figures from the Automotive News Data Centre, the Korean manufacturer has overtaken Ford which saw its sales fall by more than 30 per cent in the first half of 2009, selling 8,000 more vehicles than the US giant in the first half of 2009. Results for all of last year saw Hyundai-Kia trail Ford by around 1,000,000-units, but by reducing the impact of the global recession by producing the right product for the right times, the group has managed to take fourth place much quicker than had been predicted.

    This is an index which combines both frequency and cost of repair on 30,000 Warranty Direct MBI policies which are mostly for cars more than three years old and out of manufacturer warranty. Honda came second, Hyundai third and Ford a very creditable fourth, mainly based on the low average cost of repairs to Ford cars. SEAT was fifth and Toyota sixth, with Toyota's low position the result of comparatively high cost of repairs.

  • Ferrari Enzo leads London auction 9 Oct 2019 (News)
    The car had two former owners before it was purchased by the current vendor, a Ferrari enthusiast living in the UK and principal of a Ferrari privateer outfit that specializes in competition preparation and support for modern Ferrari race cars. As a result, the car has been carefully serviced under the owner’s supervision since 2015. Joining the 2003 Ferrari Enzo is host of other cars wearing the prancing horse ranging from 1961 to 2018. There’s a 1994 Ferrari 412 T1 offered from the Autobau Collection, a 1973 Ferrari Dino 246 GT by Scaglietti, a 1961 Ferrari 250 GTE 2+2 Series I by Pininfarina, and a 2018 Ferrari 488 GTB 70th Anniversary.
  • Get £2000 off a new car with the Vauxhall scrappage scheme 25 May 2017 (News)
    The "targeted" scheme could run for 12 months and be aimed at diesels registered before 1 September 2015 and petrol cars registered before 1 January 2006. The Government says the scheme could take 15,000 of the most-polluting cars off the road, but hasn't given any indication when the scrappage initiative will start.
  • Heavy vans and pick-ups push market to record growth 7 Jul 2016 (News)
    Registrations of large vans - 2.5 - 3.0 tonnes - dominated the market, with sales up by 11.3 per cent in June, compared to the same period past year. Pick-up sales were also buoyant, up 17.3 per cent on June 2015, with the increase largely down to the launch of several new models. The growth in large vans has been linked to the boom in home deliveries, with a recent study from the Freight Transport Association (FTA) showing that the UK spends more than £800 million online every week.
  • Average speed checks double in three years 31 May 2016 (News)
    The first permanent average speed check zone was put in place just 16 years ago on the A6514 in Nottingham, and although 50 sites seems a relatively low number, 12 of those were installed in 2015 alone. There are now exactly 256 miles of road governed by permanently placed average speed cameras – so not including temporary stretches, such as those currently on sections of the A1(M) undergoing widening, for example.
