  After driving for 5 minutes the instrument cluster burst into life and everything (including the indicators) worked normally for the duration of the journey   My initial thoughts were that the main car battery could be failing – I owned a 2009 BMW 320d prior to this and noted certain facilities (heated rear window/stop-start function/radio when engine off etc.) began to stop working before I replaced the battery. All functions were restored on replacing the battery on my 320d.

  Hi, I recently purchased a '57 plate BMW 116i 4 months ago from Arnold Clark and it has 2 years mechanical warranty. Mainly used for short commutes to work and back (less than 10 miles one-way) and going about town. Occasionally take it out for longer journeys to give it a good run.

  Hi Can anyone help ive just taken my car to the dealership because of lights warning me of headlight failure that keep coming up on my satnav display they have told me that  the unit in the footwell needs replacing my car is under warranty with the company i bought the car from so the £600 for the unit didnt upset me as i wasnt paying but bmw then rang me to say that they cant update the computer to accept the new unit as an error keeps coming up that says basically i need a CD Autochanger (£505) fitted now when i bought the car it was second hand 57plate and didnt have a CD Autochanger just the basic radio cd ive since checked and i know they come prepared for a autochanger but why do i have to have one fitted just so the new unit that is being fitted will work this is costing me over £600 of my own money just so i can keep the warning lights from coming up on my Satnav Bmw told me i need to have the unit replaced as it controls all the lights and windscreen wipers etc on the car and if i dont have it replaced more problems will occur i find this amazing that i have to buy a Cd autochanger just so  it will work as it should and the computer will accept it Can anyone help on this matter ?

  I have read through the previous threads on the recommendations and these are the estate cars that I am interested in: Audi A4, A6 Avant estate, BMW 520 or 3 series Estate, Skoda Oktavia, VW Passat, Honda or Saab? My preference is for an Audi or BMW but I am concerned that the servicing and repair costs for these vehicles are very high. I could not find many Skoda Octavia diesels on the used market?

  It's only done just over 30,000 miles and drives like new. It's had two previous owners, one of which was BMW (it was an ex-demo). The problem is that the service book is missing. However, we phoned the BMW MINI dealership where the car was originally from and they told us all of the services that the car has had and it is all up-to-date.

  I went to see a BMW specialist yesterday to sell on the 17" alloys and he commented that the current wheels are wrong for the car. Thats the background, i have a couple of questions really as neither of us know much about cars... 1.

  You hear phrases like "Typical xxx (insert offending make of car) driver" both on this forum and in general. Often maligned are BMW drivers, but what makes a BMW driver? Many years ago I bought myself a two year old 318. The day before I'd had an Opel Manta, but Overnight the world around me changed - I was now perceived as a BMW driver and it was immediately noticeable that I was not let out of side roads, when I was overtaking people put their foot down to prevent me passing -yes it happened in other cars but not as regularly as in the BMW.

  I am fortunate enough to be looking seriously at buying a new 5 series BMW 520d Touring to replace my lovely (but less capacious) Volvo S60 D5 S. I have just noticed that BMW are currently offering 'Business Navigation' & a CD changer for just £350 complete for both (saving loads - £1,300), as a special offer.

  Just spent the day at a BMW 'SuperSale' at BCA Bedford, to source a vehicle, for a customer. I'm not a big fan of BMW's, but plenty of people are, over 200 'showroom prepared' models to choose, right accross the range, so spoilt for choice really.

  I do around 40K miles a year, get paid by the mile. So, the more mpg I get, the richer I get. I drive a lot at night and love the bmw and audi red dials inside Don?t want a saloon in audi though. Wife is telling me to get mondeo, but I have had these for 8 years on and off. (company cars) I just cant make my mind up. So I have a few choices. 1. bmw 525/530 tds saloon around £13K for a 2000/y 2. audi a4 avant 2000 around £11K but reminds me of passat 3. mg zt-t 130 53 plate £13K 10 miles 4.

  Hi, Another scam story! I'll try to keep the story v brief; 1. I sold my BMW to a dealer (company name & VAT number were legit). He paid the deposit to me directly. He never payed off the outstanding HP (99% of the value of the car). 2. He sold the vehicle to an innocent party.

  Hey all, I've got a £15k budget for a new (2nd hand!) car. I've been looking at the following: BMW 3 series Touring M Sport (05-12) Mercedes C220 CDI Estate (2008 > ...I think) Audi A4 Avant (Either Black Edition or S-Line) So mainly estates. I need enough boot space to bung a big pram, flat pram seat thingy and shopping in the boot.

  Our driving pattern makes a petrol engine seem like the logical choice but some models which are attractive, such as BMW tourings in 3 and 5 series, and V70 Volvo estates, are almost impossible to find in petrol form. ( We're looking at either new or up to 3 years used) We are also considering Quashqais and X Trails, and although there are a few petrol versions about they are far less common and I am concerned that when trying to resell they will be harder to shift.

  Hi All, First time posting here so hi! I have a BMW 316TI 2003 which has a hesitation issue. I have just had plugs, fuel & air filter & oil cange done which has helped slightly. The car bogs down & hesitates under 2000RPM. It has been on a diganostic machine at my local garage and came up with "VVT Sensor, Knock sensor and Lambda sensor rear cat bank 1 aging".

  Ideally, I want to keep the car for a while. Had an Audi A3 before this, so new to large BMWs & diesels.. I’m after some advice on what should I watch out for? Anything I should change/service now as a precaution? Any known faults on this model? 1) Timing chain issue, as I’m new to diesels will I be able to notice the noise?

  The dealer has visually examined the suspension and steering, done a drive test and come up with nothing. I'm going to get the tracking tested by an independent (BMW want a small fortune just to check it), but has anyone got any ideas? The suggestion I heard recently was a faulty steering sensor but I'm not sure what sensor that would be.

  2011 BMW 1 series    I want to change from run flats to regular. I worry about the low air sensor and having the right tires for the car. I would get one of those flat repair kits that come with a sme geneator and some gunk to seal a flat tire so I could drive a short distance.
