importing a cheap merc... 22 Mar 2003 (Forum)
Has anyone gone down this route and can they advise if the benefits of a cheaper car are outweighed by wait, import costs and shipping costs? Or, should I just bite the bullet and buy something from my local merc dealer!? Thanks for the help! -

Buying from UK mainland and importing to Jersey 22 Aug 2007 (Forum)
Does anyone know the process and the likely fees charged by agencies that claim VAT back on my behalf? I have the rates of duty to import into Jersey as well as costs to register the car here (although registering is unesessary if the car is in the island for more than 6 months but less than 12 months.) On the basis that I do not sell the car for 12 months after importing into Jersey and subsequently bringing it into the UK. -
SEAT Leon TDi SE / Importers 27 Jan 2003 (Forum)
And the Leon is considerably bigger and prettier than the Ibiza. Unfortunately its also a couple of grand more. So I've been looking at importing one. Seems like I can get one imported for about £11500, which is a lot cheaper than the £15000 the salesman quoted for a new one with metallic paint. Anyone able to reccomend a good importer for SEATs? -

Main dealer import nightmare 6 Jan 2004 (Forum)
The reply I received went along the lines of: " Sorry sir...we've checked our system and I'm afraid that your car appears to be an import (which wasn't known by us when we sold you the car). The original owner who part exchanged the car with us signed a declaration stating that the car wasn't an import but we have since found out from the original main dealer (DEALER 'B') who supplied the car that it was an import.....so you do not have the balance of the 3yr warranty" I've complained to the General Manager at the dealership who has agreed to honour the remainder of my warranty but I am now stuck with an imported car when I was told at the time that it was a UK car. -

Are used imports safe? 30 Jul 2007 (Forum)
Ok, so my hubby has now set his sights on a Nissan Terano 93 2.7L TDcI - it looks incredible and we've checked the "Whats good/Whats bad" etc. The only thing is, its from a company that imports international vehicles - this one comes from Japan. Should we be aware of anything regarding this? Its an "N" Reg - does this mean its actually older that this but has been in the country since "N", or do they backdate number plates? -
Imports at auction 3 Mar 2003 (Forum)
My local auction had a sale of Japanese imports the other day, 4x4s, people carriers, sports etc. Some of these had SVA certificates, others did not, all had no MOT and were straight off the ship, unregistered in the UK and sold as seen. They were all going for low prices- has anyone on here bought a car in this way? -
