  Hi everyone, this is my first time putting a posting on the forum. I have a problem with my 2001 Xantia Hdi. Something is draining the battery over about 2 days. This appears to be through the 15amp main relay circuit fuse under the bonnet. When you remove the fuse there is not battery drain but you cannot start the car. The main ECU double relay has been replaced along with the glow plug relay but still the drain occurs.

  PS Battery is in boot. Questions 1 is he correct in assumption that key operated boot release is electric? 2 can you charge the battery (slowly!) with a cigarette lighter charger? ie is socket always on?

  Hi Well last nights cold snap was enough to kill off the original battery which is 7 years old in my Vectra. Pretty good going in my book. I have a 98 GLS with the factory fit alarm & immobilizer. It has a graphic which indicates that the alarm goes off when the battery is removed.

  Then I tried to start it and it wouldn't start but it proceeded to remove the last remaining breath of life in the battery. But it did unstick the clutch so I could get it out of gear so a little ray of sunshine. I sent my dad off to go get another battery and some jump leads. Tried those, same thing, now we had two flat batteries.

  I have repeated problems with a flat battery on our 2006 Chrysler Grand Voyager 2,8 Turbo Diesel, usually after the car hasn't been used for a few days. Battery has been tested and always charges quickly after a jump start from another car.

  Having posted yesterday regarding a battery problem, I have decided to replace the battery having no success trying to charge it. I have looked online and am confused with Silver Calcium and Calcium, as some sites say must be Silver Calcium replacement others say it only needs to be Calcium as the difference is minimal, Before I jump in I thought I would try and get a bit of advice from non bias people who may have had the same problem. thanks.

  I remeber driving the old Dodge postal vans and having to be towed /jumped started on freezing mornings.. My question/curiosity is , does the cold weather actually drain the diesel  battery , for example , lets assume you left the car for a week or 2 in cold conditions but returned when it was above freezing perhaps , as an example, 1o degrees or so..Would the previous cold nights affect a physical  drain on the diesel battery , or, would it start as you left it. , Brain.

  Horror!    The remote key battery had gone flat.   At 74, I don't have a lot of strength in hands, so a friend took out the battery and said I could buy another.   Halfords told me yesterday that once battery is takenout, the new battery has to be rinserted within 10 minutes,.

  My wifes Ka broke down and the RAC guy told me it was the alternator - so had the alternator changed. Started the car after changing alternator and gave it a good drive to try to charge the battery back up, but as soon as I stopped and tried starting the engine again - NOTHING!  I've tried charging the battery at home but it loks like the battery has gone down in charge! Could it have been the battery all along?

  Hello, I wonder if anyone can offer me some advice? My Audi's battery is running flat after 3 or 4 days of not being used. I've checked the voltage (12.88 v) and removed the neg and am getting a zero reading when testing amps. When the engine is running I'm getting over 14 v The battery is only 16 months old and this problem was there when I bought it but I used it a lot more then so it wasn't really an issue although I keep it trickle charged during the week in case I get stranded.

  My 96 MB W124 will stand for 2 weeks before i return to work (did i mention i finished last Friday heh heh), so before return i'd like to give the car a day on the battery charger (4A low setting). Is it vital to disconnect the battery during charging or will the vehicle cope OK, i'm fairly sure the engine management ECU has to 'relearn' following reconnection but i may well be totally wrong.

  My Vectra seems to always have a flat battery, which I thought I'd cured when I bought a new one a couple of months back. It used to go flat when the car wasn't used for about 2 weeks, but now it's flat the next day. Checked the alternator and it's charging at about 14v.
