BMW 525D Touring E61 - Poor Service & Rejection 19 Jul 2011 (Forum)
It is now 19 July - over 35 days later, and they have told me they have changed the following: PDC Controller Electronic Tailgate Controller (My car does not have electronic tailgate, only button release) Tow Bar controller Media Unit. Today they told me they did not replace the tailgate controller, though last week I was informed this was being especuially manufactured by BMW Germany. I have questioned this with the dealer principal as being an engineer myself, I know you cannot just quickly manufacture an electronic controller, especially one for a car that does not have that feature!! -
Peugeot 206 - Peugeot 2.0 HDI Naughtyness 21 Jan 2011 (Forum)
Driving along nicely and then the engine management light came on along with a beep and anti pollution fault(which is something that has popped up ever now and then-my 206 does not have a FAP filter system) so I tried to start it and it wouldn't...I had to call the AA in the end which had to tow me back to my house(less than 2 miles away) but before doing so he tried various things like asking the obvious if there was sufficient fuel in the tank etc etc(which there was according the the guage) and upon connecting it to his computer it came back a fault relating to the error code P1112 fuel rail pressure. -
BMW X5 3.0i year 2000 - BMW X5 cylinder head/engine replace. Advice please 20 Oct 2010 (Forum)
Car then not sounding too good apparently and then noticed temperature gauge in red and so she pulled in at nearest (!!) lay by. Car now outside my house having been dropped off by tow truck. My local mechanic (old school VW/Renault man - knows his stuff and very helpful) said likely that head warped/cracked as a minimum (head gasket has gone and engine still turns over apparently but no power anymore) and that not advisable to resurface as tolerances with overhead cams too problematic and that I should either look for a new or tested s/h head and try and fit myself (car not worth a great deal and I have built kit cars many years ago) or much better still, get a replacement engine...Still don't know the cause of the overheating (water pump recently replaced). -
Can a driver refuse to give a statement insurers? 23 Nov 2009 (Forum)
He didn't look, went too far in his haste and hit the front of my car, puncturing the plastic bumper with his tow bar (the corner of the bar which hangs below the bumper, not the ball bit, hence the puncture), and furthermore denting a metal cross member behind the bumper. The bumper is also bent out of shape on the other side of the number plate as a result of the movement, and will need replacing to ensure a proper repair. -

Ford Fiesta (1995 - 1999) - My Fiesta - now more confused. 4 Jan 2009 (Forum)
I paid £350 for it, spent £200 on it including drive shaft gaitor, two new decent tyres, new brake fluid float switch, oil change and tow bar removal. Underneath is a little rusty but solid, I cannot see anything bad enough to even warrant an advisory on the MOT and the new sills are still completly solid and showing no signs of rust. -
Had my first breakdown not nice - Clutch has gone 15 Dec 2008 (Forum)
I can get this fixed for £150, but I am drawing the line now, I am going to rob swap the ICV, MAF and other sensors which are working fine put them on my dads (which is not running right), then sell my car on ebay. I have already spent £200 repairing as they were safety things:- Tow bar removed general check over and oil change - £50 New door latch, reverse switch and cv boot £80 Two new Pirerri tyres at £39 each, £78 New air filter - did this myself £5 New brake fluid cap - did myself £7.00 I am now kicking and screaming at myslef for letting my dad test drive the car (he knows nothing about mechanics) I didn't have insurance so could not test drive it myself. -
2 perplexing problems 1996 Range Rover 20 Nov 2006 (Forum)
Plus, I have just this minute discovered there is a third problem that has raised it?s ugly head ? heater core O rings ? when I moved the car (by towing) on the sloping driveway I noticed about a small cup of coolant pour out of the RHS footwell and sure enough there are tell-tale green drips from the bottom HEVAC vent (right on to the Nokia hands-free speaker!) -
HGF 150 miles from home. Fantastic! 21 Feb 2006 (Forum)
clock, and we all needed to be home in time to go to work/uni on the Monday morning. After being towed home, we (dad, me and my uncle) began a tour of every open garage, dealership and accessory shop that was still open, but the answer was all the same ?nah, don?t have one of those. I can get one on Monday if that? -

Thoughts from America 30 Sep 2005 (Forum)
Hello All, I have generally been anti SUV on the basis that unless you tow a horse box or run a farm there is little justification for driving such large inefficient and dynamically poor (on the road) vehicles that offer the every day motorist very few advantages and so many disadvantages over normal cars. -
Can I reject this paint job? 15 Oct 2003 (Forum)
The end result made my heart sink, the paint finish was actually quite bad, I could see where they hadn't really blended in the new paint to the existing paint, the bonnet blending was really bad that I could see where the new paint and old paint ended and the bumper is a different colour, also no attempt was made to even blend in the wings. Then I noticed the blank for the towing eye in the bumper, it was the original blank and the colour difference was quite pronounced, they hadn't bothered to respray it. So I rang the insurance company, they've offshored their call centre, wonderful. -
Old F*rts Thread 25 Jun 2001 (Forum)
At this point two things happened, firstly I noticed that the truck was a plain unmarked white Mack, towing a bulk tanker semi-trailer, and secondly that it was still catching me quite quickly by straight lining all the bends which he could see over. By now, all I can think about, sad I know, is the Spielberg film Duel where Dennis Weaver is chased by an unmarked black Mack tanker. -
Renault kadjar - Turbo failure on low mileage car Consumer rights? 16 Sep 2023 (Forum)
My question is: I purchased my 2016 Renault Kadjar signature 1.6 TDI from a Renault dealer in July 2019 with 15535 miles on the clock for £13789. 3 weeks ago I broke down on the motorway. £144 to tow me to Renault garage. The Turbo had failed (dealer thinks its the bearing). The engine has approximately 28689 miles on clock. Car has been. driven correctly and maintained to manufacturers service recommendations. -
Ford Mondeo MK3 2.0 TDCI 2005 - What is wrong with my car? 6 Mar 2021 (Forum)
I have very little money and cannot afford the extortionate fees diesel specialists charge and every mechanic i have spoken to has told me to get it towed to a diesel specialist but this would very much exhaust all money i have to fix it before knowing what is even wrong. My question is what do you think the fault is? Is it an easy fix? -
2011 Peugeot 207 1.4 8v - Possible failed cambelt? 18 Feb 2019 (Forum)
The AA then eventually turned up and tried starting it a few times and said the same thing - cambelt gone. They towed the car back to her house. The next day she had a family friend mechanic come out and try and start the car again, and again saying it SOUNDS like the cambelt has gone. So 3 people so far have said it's the cambelt. -
Vectra cdti - 150 Need help egr ecu troubles. Pulling hair out 22 Jun 2017 (Forum)
All started a cuple of weeks ago when the crank pulley broke sending the alternator belt behind pulley and bang. Car stops going. After getting towed home looked and seen pully wheel has totaly came off jammed the belt. Replaced pully and belt and car would not start. No surprise After a lot of digging I found 16 broken rockers. -
Renault Laguna - AA Breakdown Repair Cover - Dont Waste your money 24 May 2014 (Forum)
My car has since then broke down again. The day before the bank holiday (17 th April) we left our home towing a caravan for a six day holiday to the forest of dean. We didn’t get very far. Just 45min down the road before the clutch went, or so we thought. When the service man came, he diagnosed the fault as a turbo issue. -
Used estate/MPV - holy grail sought. 16 Mar 2013 (Forum)
I suppose things could change but our annual mileage is under 5k pa and it's mainly easy town miles and the odd motorway trip. Very little stop/start driving in heavy traffic and no towing. When I bought the car there was no choice but to have the diesel and I quite like it but I realise my usage and driving style probably isn't best suited to modern diesels with pesky DPF timebombs etc. waiting to empty the wallet. -
