Need a car for £100 2 Mar 2007 (Forum)
Interior doesn't matter as can easily be rectified - a good engine and other key components are far more important. (Must just clarify this is not to be my (or anyone else's) main car. I'm shortly to be the recipient of a company Focus Titanium 2.0tdci so this is strictly a hobby project!). Having been watching things like ebay a lot over the last few weeks looking for this there seem to be many different options I could go for. -
Toyota Estima Enima Turbo 17 Nov 2006 (Forum)
I've owned the above Jap import for about 1 year and have been very pleased with it and would recommend it. However, it appears to have a fault which no garage or petrol-head friend has been able to diagnose. The car always starts first time, runs great, and has never broken down. -
X-Trail Valuation in p-ex for Subaru 19 Jul 2006 (Forum)
Incidentally, a dealer offering an almost identical car today, but £1000 more, offered me £ 12000 trade-in. Is it a classic case of price-to-change being the all-important consideration. Hoping back -roomers can throw some light on the murky world of trade-ins Many thanks HectorG -
Swift automatic 19 Jun 2006 (Forum)
The handling is nice and sharp, although I feel the steering is a little light and could do with more feel as the car picks up speed. The important think is that my wife likes it. I have told her to keep those shiny alloys away from the kerb! -
Volkswagen Passat Brake problem 5 Feb 2006 (Forum)
I have a 2002 Volkswagen Passat 130 TDI Sport which I bought new as an import (Warranty expired) The problem I have started at the end of August when I had to make an emergency stop. The ABS cut in and the car stopped when I went to move off the car would not move and stayed like that for about 1 to 2 minutes after a click sound that appeared to come from the front of the car I found that I could move the car. -
Child accident rates/lollipop persons 7 Oct 2005 (Forum)
I expect we are different to satisfy some minority interest - dairy farmers in the north of Scotland perhaps?- but few things can be more important than children's lives. I certainly feel that about my own children. If I'm off track here please let me know> -
Skoda Car Seat Comfort & Back Pain 19 Sep 2005 (Forum)
I looked at new cars for over a year. I want something with good reliability but the seating is most important. I tried a Mazda 6 in 2004 but found the ride and seating much too hard. Similarly the new Primera was uncomfortable. This year I test drove a VW Touran, Passat and Skoda Octavia (latest model). -
Derbyshire school 20mph zones 9 Aug 2005 (Forum)
However the signs just state a 20 mph zone is in force when the lights flash, there do not appear to be any repeater signs and, probably more important, no sign to mark the end of the zone. A couple of locals I spoke to just said words to the effect,'Ah well, everyone knows the school is in ???? Lane so we don't go back to 30 until we get to ???? -
Pls help girlie find new car 19 Apr 2005 (Forum)
Hi all Have enjoyed reading the site for a while but never posted before. Need to replace my Golf GTi with an estate or low backed 4x4. The most important considerations are 1. Easy access for my beloved large hound - jumping over the lip into a hatchback is not good for him (bad hips) 2. Leather seats to minimise the dog hair problem. 3. Im a photographer and trying to sell an image of innovation, quality and fun. 4. -
Impreza - Repairs / de-mods 6 Apr 2005 (Forum)
My question is, can anyone give me a source where I can buy replacement cats (just to get her MOT'd) without having to pay the subaru premium. I have tried a number of breakers and motor factors. there is no problem finding parts for imported Imprezas, but no-one has been able to help so far with aftermarket parts for a UK car. I had her on the ramps on Saturday for a good visual inspection underneath. I noticed a small trail of oil where the drive shaft comes out of the (gearbox??) -
4 x 4 advice 2 Feb 2005 (Forum)
We have kids and all the in-car-junk and abuse that this involves so it wouldn't have to be perfect, the most important question is over the maintenace of it: I don't want to spend thousands keeping the thing on the road and if I can't get a good one without the hassle we can have something else, it doesn't have to be a discovery. -
Pre-Registered v. Nearly New 14 Sep 2004 (Forum)
This appears to be a couple of grand less than the price of 'nearly new' diesel, but over a few years, the costs of ownership would probably be similar. Having read about the importance of 'running in' a new car, I am concerned that a nearly new one might have been thrashed, or could be a 'lemon' that the first owner has sold on as quickly as they could. I'd prefer a diesel, but this concern is putting me off a little. -
Renault Megane problems!!! 29 Feb 2004 (Forum)
Some of these defects were almost certainly as a result from badly repaired bodywork rectification at the import centre - cause unknown. It then developed a rattle in the drivers door which was traced to the locking mechanism and 'cured' Then the ventilation fan was replaced as it was oscillating and making a terrible noise. -
MOT test - should have failed 19 May 2003 (Forum)
I'm a little concerened I have stumbled accross a dodgy garage (I'm new to the area) I don't view the MOT as something to 'just get the car through' as I believe it is an important part of ensuring vehicle safety and whilst I don't believe my vehicle to be unsafe I don't have full confidence they have thoroughly checked the vehicle. I realise they could just have 'missed' an non-operational bulb (which is not so good in itself)but on the other hand they may not have even bothered checking. -
WHERE WERE THE OLD FORD FIESTAS BUILT? 26 Nov 2002 (Forum)
I have been considering an MK5 and I did a VIN number check on both these cars and it said Origin as 'GERMANY' - does this mean where it was supplied from - i.e. grey import or does this mean where it was built... What confused me is the fact my sister had a crash and the mechanic said they were good as they were built in germany...however i was possitive they were made in dagenahm - also it said on the VIN check PRODUCT SOURCE BRENTWOOD, ENGLAND (OWN ASSEMBLY). -
Buying 4x4 for export to Sri Lanka 23 Apr 2002 (Forum)
If the car is exported to Sri Lanka as planned, it is suitable both for running over many years as a private car, or for sale at reasonable profit, even after paying import taxes and freight charges. He does not believe servicing will be an issue. The fact that the car is not new, and he will own it in the UK for over 12 months before potential export are big factors in his favour. -
Buying 4x4 for export to Sri Lanka 22 Apr 2002 (Forum)
In his favour are the facts that if he has owned the car for at least six months in the UK, he will not have to pay Sri Lankan import duty, and also that in Sri Lanka, driving is on the left hand side of the road. Not in his favour, however, are the facts that neither he, nor his friends, have any idea how to go about this, and he is worried about being led up the garden path. -
Caravans are good news, apparently 12 Mar 2002 (Forum)
If you are in the car 4 or 5 minutes longer than you anticipated over a 20 mile journey through travelling at 50 rather than 60, is it really that important? If it is, change your car for something with more poke so you can overtake, or leave earlier. -
Company Car <£20k Help 30 Jun 2001 (Forum)
Can I do better for somebody elses cash? He mentions Alfa but I know nothing about them apart from jokes about rust. Not a really important factor, more of a 'what if' but I will have option to buy this car in 4 years time, which might fit in with a few other things. Thought occurs that it might be worth going for something good, but that will depreciate like a stone. -
16 important OIL questions answered! 8 Jan 2013 (Forum)
There are now some engines where the fuel and oil are injected separately, but the oil is still burnt. 10) How important is it to change oil regularly? What are the implications of failing to do so? It is only really important to change oil regularly if the engine covers a low annual mileage made up of slow, short runs.
