  • Vauxhall Astra G Coupe/Convertible (2000 - 2004) - 03 1.8 heating problems 21 Jan 2010 (Forum)
After driving about 10 miles my temperature guage goes into the red, if i put the heater on full the temp comes back down to 80 or 90 deg, the heater works fine, the electric fan cuts in at around 90 deg but the radiator remains cold as does the bottom hose, the top hose is hot. I have drained and refilled the coolant but the problem still persists. The car runs fine, no startin problems and no steam or hissing, i am a little worried that the radiator is stone cold though and as i said the bottom hose is also cold, any advice would be helpful.

  • FIAT Punto II (1999 - 2006) - 20 1.2 warning lights - what do they mean? 29 Jun 2009 (Forum)
They only started doing this the other day. Does anyone know what this might mean? I've check the oil and coolant, and the levels are fine, and it seems to drive ok. Had a new engine management system fitted about 6 months ago.
  • Renault Espace (1985 - 1997) - 94 2.0i Poor starting / idle 14 Feb 2009 (Forum)
Looks as though someone tried to remove the Lambda and has damaged the body of the sensor quite badly. Could this be the cause? I was thinking possibly CTS as well? (has had coolant leak recently) Anyone got any tips on how to diagnose this? Thanks Maceman
  • Ford Mondeo II (1996 - 2000) - 1998 2.5 Overheating 26 Dec 2008 (Forum)
Suddenly started to overheat - gauge goes off the scale! No heat through aircon/heater unit - just cold air No visible loss of coolant Possible water from exhaust (no steam as far as I can see) but only running engine on idle to save overheating - as soon as I drive away gauge goes off scale Anyone with similar problems - could it be Head gasket ?
  • Renault Laguna (1994 - 2001) - 97 Heater Matrix 3 Oct 2008 (Forum)
Hello chaps,I have just found your excellent and informative site while searching the web for an answer to my problem. I have coolant leaking from somewhere under the dash and it is obvious from the smell and misting windscreen etc, that the matrix is leaking. My question is,how big a job is it to replace? I am competant but if this is a " dash out job "I wont bother.

  • Nissan Primera (1990 - 1996) - 95 1.6 - Help with cooling system problem 1 Sep 2008 (Forum)
I have a 1995 Nissan Primera 1.6 SLX. I intend to add a coolant-leak additive as I think I have a small leak somewhere in the system. Can anyone give me some tips as to how to get the most out of it. Someone suggested running the car with the cap off for a bit while it circulates.
  • Vauxhall Corsa B (1993 - 2000) - 1996 1.2 8V - temp gauge occasionally gets too hot 20 Jun 2008 (Forum)
keeps the needle in the safe section of the gauge, but still about the 95 that is normal in cooler weather. No loss/use of cooling fluid, no pressurisation of coolant, no mayo, oil OK. Fuel consumption seems fine. Any thoughts? Noticed the rad was cooler at base than at top on one such occasion.
  • Best one liner, customer and trade 7 Dec 2007 (Forum)
looking in on a used car lot 10yrs or so ago. "Can I see under the bonnet" (bonnet is opened) I lean forward peering at the coolant tank which is empty of fluid, but tide marked with an oily scum. Bomb site owner, (also staring at the header tank) " What can`t spee-ack can`t tell no lies" ( Broad Yorkshire accent) and I`m invited to take the car out for a test drive.
  • Audi A6 - water leaks into the interior 29 Jun 2007 (Forum)
If anyone can help it would be much appreciated. Slight mod to subject to make it clear it wasn't a coolant problem - PU
  • Rover 75 water leak 20 Apr 2007 (Forum)
The radiator had to be replaced due to a self evident leak, and knowing the cylinder head gasket problems that these models suffer from I've had the coolant system pressure tested and it was all OK. There are no external signs of water leaks, and no sign of water in the engine oil, but the system is losing over a pint of water on a 40 mile daily trip.

  • water leak after air con is switched off 18 Sep 2006 (Forum)
According to him if he switches and leaves it off there is a small pool of water under the engine on the passenger side when the car is left standing for a while. He did mention the coolant level goes down a bit as well. He does say this does not happen if he leaves the air con on when driving. is that a common occurance/problem? I have heard that if the air con is used during summer/hot weather it is normal to see a puddle of water under the car due to condenstation.
  • An expensive accident, a simple solution 31 Jul 2006 (Forum)
Audi convertible has rolled down the hill glancing an 06 reg Passat causing damage to all four drivers side panels, then hitting a pick up damaging the front of this and in the process denting the front end of the Audi and in the process damaging the coolant system. Had the Audi not steered towards the other side of the road and hit the above cars after 20m or so it could have continued down the hill for a few hundred metres - who knows what damage could have been caused then.
  • Can spark plugs improve fuel efficiency? 24 Jul 2006 (Forum)
This is substantially higher than what it has been achieving pre-service (35mpg, average). Apart from standard fluid changes (coolant/oil etc - which have never affected fuel efficiency before) the only thing replaced were spark plugs. I kept the oil topped up anyway, so I was wondering if this reduced drinking habit could really have come from something as cheap to replace as spark plugs?
  • Honda Gold wing 1200 21 Jul 2006 (Forum)
I have tried the goldwing clubs, but none appear to give free details away. OK with oil,oil filter, air filter and coolant changes, but would like some info on timing belt changes and whether it is an "interference" engine. Any idea of valve clearances, and whether hot or cold I really don't want to buy a manual and then give it away, as this would cost more than the slabs Not helped by the fact that the rear wheel has been replaced by a Scorpion back end!!
  • Peugeot 306 1.6 radiator fan always on 14 Jan 2006 (Forum)
The fan stops when the ignition is in the on position. The keypad immobiliser doesn't require a code to start the car. Also the coolant temperature, brake, and oil pressure lights are on dimmly, when the ignition key is turned to off, or key is out. Also sometimes when I turn the engine off it runs for a up to 30 seconds. The car runs OK with no other problems.
  • oil in water system - Alfa Romeo 24 Dec 2005 (Forum)
Hi i have a 1995 Alfa Romeo 2.0 16v and have oil in the top half of the cooling system. in the coolant reservior and the overflow pipe. the radiator is clear and so is the top and bottom hoses. No water is in the oil system although the dipstick level has fallen. presumably being pumped out. One thousand miles ago the head was skimmed and pressure tested ok. and all was ok as i checked levels everyday, until the last 20 minute journey. the car is still driving like a train.
  • Audi A4 supplimentary heater 29 Nov 2005 (Forum)
The manual also stated that ALL turbo diesel models have a 'supplimentary heater' which provides warmth independant of the engine temp, when the coolant temp is below a certain level. Now I dont think my car has an auxiliary heater, but is it supposed to have the supplimentary heater which I believe is elecrically powered ? This is supposed to be automatic when the climate control is set to AUTO.
