  • Ford Fiesta (1995 - 1999) - 1998 1.3 - Engine trouble 22 Feb 2008 (Forum)
1242cc 16v 1998/R reg Hi, My engine had seized up so I bought another one (exactly the same even down to the year of manufacture) and fitted it. Upon attempting to start the car it is cranking but not firing. This cant be an ECU problem because the engine is exactly the same as the old one even down to the year. We have identified the most probable cause being no fuel getting to the engine, the reason being that upon disconnecting the injector pipes only minimal fuel drips out where it should be considerably greater, somewhat squirting out.
  • 306 hdi injectors or alternator pulley? 4 Mar 2007 (Forum)
Also when the engine is started and is cold the alternator does whistle until warm and the belt has been renewed and correctly tentioned-would this accur if the pulley was worn My other question is if i come across some injectors (if that is the cause) i know about matching part numbers on the top of the injector but would the ecu have any problems recognising the new injectors if i get a complete set of the same number? sorry if this is a borng post but id really like to sort this one way or another cheers

Any suggestions gratefully received. I'm stumped with the electronics side of cars! I'm guessing its either the ECU or something to do with the instrument panel itself?
  • Allergic to Modern Cars 14 Sep 2006 (Forum)
However, as these are now hard to come by I'm wondering what the least complicated new-ish car might be - no ECU ETC. To be like this is very debilitating .... so, I thought it was worth a stab to pose the question on here. The condition for this is generally termed as ELECTROSENSITIVITY - loads about this online.
  • Renault Scenic gone crazy!!! 5 Apr 2006 (Forum)
I took my son to football this evening, as i got back into the car to go home, the following warnings came up, "ASR and ESP Failure" "Passenger Airbag deactivated" and "Parking Brake failure"!!!!! I suspect a faulty ECU, i know the car is under warranty, but was wondering what the problem may be, and has anybody else experienced this problem before??? thanks

All other remedies have been done, including flushing the cooling system, replacing the radiator and the thermostat and replacing the head gaskets. Is there a trick I can use or an ignigtion ECU interface I can get that will allow me to do the adjusting? Thanks in Advance, Art compukey@flash.net
  • 306 Dturbo diesel pump and immobiliser 26 Apr 2005 (Forum)
Anyway, I went to Peugeot to ask them but all I got was a blank look, so I thought id try here. Will I need to swap the pumps over? surely the code is stored in the ECU and that then sends a signal to the fuel shut off valve in the pump? The pump on the new engine is slightly different in that it has a damper and a pipe leading to the oil filler, whereas the old one doesnt have these.

Its was due a 96,000 service and for the airbag light to be investigated. Actually picked it up yesterday, clutch problem turned out to be a leaking rear seal, ECU was the problem for the airbag light. Clutch takes 7.7 hours on this one! Even dealer was surprised.... Total bill was £ 1,260...Had a 156 JTS on loan which averaged 32MPG and goes quite well, this one was on 17s although not sure that I like the styling off the new wheels, prefer the 16s Veloce ones on mine.
  • Servicing CD's -- are they useful? 18 Jun 2004 (Forum)
The 'factory Service/Repair manual' turned out to be pretty useless. It showed me where to plug in an ECU analyser, if I had one! It also displayed a nice table of bolt sizes and their tightening torques. Not where they were, though. As to information similar to that found in a Haynes manual, forget it.
  • Citroen Xsara Brake Lights 2 Jul 2003 (Forum)
It's been in to the main dealer 5 times and they still can't fix it. The last time it spent a whole week in thier workshop with the ECU being replaced, prior to this it was 3 days with various switches being replaced. The fix usually lasts about 2 weeks then guess what ? Yep the 10 amp fuse goes again, the main dealer has suggested I uprate the fuse to 15 amp to stop it blowing!
  • Rover 600 Keyfobs 23 Apr 2003 (Forum)
. £180 seems like a lot of money as they couldn't guarantee that this would work, as they told me that I may also need a new ECU! The car was supplied from a main dealer which has now closed down. And the car was supplied directly by Rover. Does anyone know how I can get my key fobs and keys to be reprogrammed cheaply? Any help would be most appreciated.
  • Cold start problems on Laguna 2-litre 1 Apr 2003 (Forum)
It has been in the local Renault dealer for 4 weeks, and they have been singularly incapable of finding any faults. They have replaced the cat with no improvement, so put the old one back on. Ditto ECU. Ditto idle control unit. The diagnostic equipment fails to show any faults. The plugs are 4000 miles old. The cold start sensor is apparently OK. The car has done 84000 miles & has been regularly serviced since new.

  • FAILED EMISSIONS 11 Sep 2002 (Forum)
I have taken it to a Bosch specialist who plugged it into the computer for a couple of hours and said it might be an internal fuel leak he also said that the ECU would let him go so far in to its programme and then kick him out. Anyone out there with any suggestions I would be very grateful
  • BMW 5-Series E60 (2003 - 2009) - 2006 2.0 Non existent Diagnostics 22 Mar 2012 (Forum)
Not to mention that if he hadn't seen this sticking relay issue before another garage/technician might have started changing the components being reported as faulty on the iDrive, fuel pump etc. Apparently this relay provided power to the ECU, instead of the fault system reporting a no power scenario it reported loads of other stuff and apparently can't store a fault because the ECU has no power. Goodness knows what computer was throwing up all of the iDrive messages then??
  • Corsa C (51 Plate) Easytronic - Vauxhall Corsa C Easytronic Losing Power/Gear 26 Jan 2012 (Forum)
I did the code check and it came back with P1700 SVS request via CAN B-06 and I've read people suggesting replacing the Crank Shaft Sensor to it being the clutch or gear selector or ECU. I know the age of the car means it just might be the major failure that brings it to an end and it's clearly not worth the £600-£1000 I've seen for replacing the clutch/gears etc, but I read a post today around someone getting ECU issues after a flat battery so as a bit of straw clutch I'm wondering where the disconnection of the battery has done anything?
  • VW Polo 1.2 2002 - Polo failed MOT on high CO 16 Sep 2011 (Forum)
When it went in for its MOT/Service, the garage said they'd put their Bosch reader on it, and said the ECU was occasionally reporting a misreading airflow, which he thought was throwing out the fuel mix, which was confusing the lambda sensor, putting the MIL on. This year, it's failed its MOT. The Hydrocarbons were OK (a little high, but within spec).

Would benefit greatly from a dyno tune done by a reputable company. Receipts for most parts (ex UK) Printed ECU manual Maintenance manual List of handy MGF sites At present has Sony Mini Disc head unit, this may stay with the car, and will also be supplied with mini disc stereo component to allow recording of minidisks from CD or this may be exchanged for Sony CD head unit currently in another car.

Any experience or ideas out there, would really like to sort it out without the dealer playing guessing games at my expense as i have read in other posts. By the way, no warning lights or ecu fault codes have been recorded, the car has done 130k.

Still not charging battery. Mechanic baffled? Before I take to a Citroen specialist has anyone had this problem . ECU remapping has been mentioned to solve problem??  Tempted to get another vehicle if this is going to be an unreliable car situation for me as run an emergency pets to vets service and breaking down with battery problems is not an option.
