  Asda is middle of the road diesel, but he said any modern diesel car should stay away from supermarket fuels apart from tesco and use either BP ultimate or Shell v power or equivalent as they need the extra dose. Was a very interesting conversation, I wont bore you all with the rest but perhaps one step closer in the debate.

  My Jan 2010 Tiguan suddenly lost all engine power (scary) and had to be towed by RAC to VW service dealer. Outcome was that the v-belt had partly "shredded" and a length of severed belt had whipped the cambelt, and knocked the timing out. Result - irreperable damage to the engine, and turbo charger also found faulty.

  Would it be worth running on premium petrol, would this reduce carbon build up on the valves or would it have little effect as the fuel doesn't pass through/over the valves to clean them anyway? Also is there much difference between ESSO Supreme and Shell V Power and could you switch between the two if one wasn't available?

  I just thought a good clean of the system might be the correct thing to do after 10 years of motoring using a variety of petrol types - e.g. Supermarket and the odd Shell V Power etc. your thoughts / advice would be welcome. Cheers

  I recently used Shell V-Power in my 2005 MINI Cooper S and 2007 BMW 320d to see if it gave better fuel consumption over 'cooking' petrol/diesel. Total mileage of test approx 3,000. Result: no meaninful - if any - improvement.

  Hi, I have a problem that is more annoying than anything else. The car in question is a Ford Focus 99/V 2.0l 16v Zetec. When I am driving at a constant speed, say 70mph, and lift off the throttle for more than about 2 seconds, it is very jerky when throttle is reapplied. I have tried hundreds of variations in throttle use, from "flooring it", down to easing power back *very* gently and progressively, and *every* time the car "lurches" back on the power again (seems more noticable when at normal operating temperature).

  It has only done 13k and has been serviced only be Ford and run only on Shell diesel (I used to use V-power diesel by now use the standard stuff since the prices went mad!).

  I have tested it on very steep hills with a Range Rover classic on the trailer, the car does not need throttle, it somehow gives just enough power to stop it stalling.
