  • SAAB 9-3 Sportwagon - Failed dmf 28 Apr 2011 (Forum)
Have owned car for 8 weeks in which time it has required a new wheel bearing, rust patch repaired and is now back in the garage diagnosed with a failed DMF and damaged clutch resulting from this failure. The car is 2006 with 56000 miles and came with a 12 month warranty the warranty company are refusing to pay claiming that this is wear and tear I have been quoted 1030 pounds to repair, the dealer is offering as a "good will gesture" to cover half the bill.
  • BMW X3 - Faulty Turbo Diesel 15 Feb 2011 (Forum)
My X3 2006 (56 plate) recently lost power whilst driving so I dropped it off to the garage for an assessment - Just received a diagnosis that is a 'caked' breather (D06F) and that this is has cuased a failure with the turbo diesel. The bill is £3000 to replace everything and get the car running. The car has done only 35000 miles and is used by wife a a runaraound - Is this a common fault and can i get BMW to cover the cost of the repair as it seems to be a recurring issue with X3s and the turbo diesel engines?
  • Mercedes-Benz E-Class W123 - Mercedes W123 Pierburg 175CD Carburettor 14 Feb 2011 (Forum)
Good day. I have a 1985 W123 running on M102 2.0 engine on Pierburg 175CD carburettor with a red damper cover. I notice that my car is severely underpower and heavy on fuel (less than 18MPG average). Also, when i accelerate in full, there will be a lot of black smake coming out from the exhaust. Ive adjusted the air/fuel mixture on the warm water autochoke but is still the same.
  • Nissan Micra K11 - Micra K11 Oil Sump Corroded 9 Jul 2010 (Forum)
After getting my car MOT'd i got pointed out to me that the sump on my Micra was corroded and leaking oil slowly. After having a look at it and the opinion of two tech's from work they told me that the bolt connecting the manifold to the exhaust covering the sump was broke and would open up a can of worms potentially needing drilled out to remove it.
  • Volkswagen Passat (2001 - 2005) - 03 1.9 Violent shuddering from clutch 5 Dec 2009 (Forum)
VW Passat 1.9 TDI, with 105000 miles on the clock and original clutch. When pulling away on slipperly surfaces (all the lanes round here are covered in leaves) such that the traction control is needed, there is a violent shuddering transmitted through the clutch pedal and in fact through the whole car. There is no problem if the car is moving and the TCS kicks in, and there is a small amount of shudder when pulling away on slopes (very occasionally enough to stall the engine).

  • Rover - 97 1.6 216 convertible new buy 13 Oct 2009 (Forum)
I would like to buy a 216 convertible and it has : 1.) a leak dripping cooling water seen under the cars engine , (container empty) 2.) oil "sweat" coming from the head ?? or the cover (head with orange sealent putty ...) ran down to the bottom of the engine 3.) split in front screen 4.) the new roof tarpolin departed from the front/left frame (rusted), the slow motion seems to be related to a low hydrolic fluid stand ?
  • Volvo S40/V40 (1996 - 2004) - 98 2.0 T Climate Control Fault 15 Oct 2008 (Forum)
Does anyone know where the climate control ECU is and if there are any common problems associated with the climate control system on these models? The Haynes manual doesn't cover this in much detail. The car isn't worth much so I'm trying to avoid having the DTCs read. Thanks in advance.
  • Mercedes High Speed Test Laredo Texas 16 Jun 2007 (Forum)
In April/May 2005 Mercedes-Benz carried out a high speed test run at Laredo Texas. The cars were 3 new (or just about to be released in Europe) 320CDI E Class saloons. Each car covered 100,000 miles at an average speed of around 140 mph. I am trying to find some detailed information about the test, which was observed by the FIA.
  • seized caliper (Honda Accord Tourer) 1 Aug 2006 (Forum)
I'd also be interested to know whether this is likely to be covered under a manufacturer warranty or likely to be fair wear and tear - the warranty document (as always) is somewhat unclear. Have had car for 4 months and it's done 19,000 miles and is just over 3 years old (has 1 year Honda extended warranty).
  • Sale Of Goods Act 8 Jun 2006 (Forum)
It has been in and out of the garage for the last three years with mostly minor repairs - but a few major. All of these have been covered by the 3 year warranty which runs out this month. The car has been in and out of the garage so much in the last 3 years that i have lost touch of the number of times that i have take it to the garage.
  • Toyota Corolla paint quality 27 Sep 2005 (Forum)
I have a 2005 Corolla less than 10000 miles in silver metallic(nice car) except the front is a rash of chips down to the black undercoat and minor scratches seem show up easily elsewhere. I've had many new cars and never experienced what seems to be soft or thin paintwork like this...my partners 6 year old fiesta is in better shape.
  • Focus 2003 - 2005 recall 23 Sep 2005 (Forum)
From the News section on the Autotrader website... Ford is recalling nearly 70,000 Focus small family cars and C-Max MPVs for checks on the windscreen wipers. The manufacturer has found that water can work its way into the wiper motor along the arm of the blade. If the water contains salt it can cause the motor to short circuit and leave cars without working wipers.
  • Damaged piantwork/rubber seals 31 Aug 2005 (Forum)
Hi I was looking for an almost new car for my wife and have seen a one year old Peugeot 307. On close inspection (first noticed on the glass front and rear there is white 'bloom' that covers it. If you then feel the paint surfaces on the panels they feel rough.
  • Advice Please!!! 2nd hand Honda Civic 4 Aug 2005 (Forum)
I am in the process of buying a second hand Civic from a local Honda dealer. I will be paying a fair price and the car is in excellent condition. However the Service Book is missing. It has only covered 11,000 miles in it's 18 months so by rights is only missing one stamp. The dealership tell me they have record of the car being serviced on the Honda database, will order me a new service book and have it stamped.
