Parking Enforcement and common sense. 22 Jun 2009 (Forum)
Reading the piece, it appears that even during the actual flooding, with fire brigade on the scene, the leaches of the parking company where still trying to extract money from people who put saving their valuables and homes before the question of whether they had over stayed their a lotted parking time or not parked in the right bay. Clearly, indiscriminate parking can lead to safety issues and congestion but some times there are other matters that need attending to first. I have this vision of a town or city in the Uk being wiped out by a terrorist nuclear device but the remaining jobs worths still moving slowly around devastated streets, looking for cars who had over stayed their paid for parking times because their owners had been incinerated. -
Renault Megane (1996 - 1998) - 98 1.6 RT Sport - poor idle, loss of power etc 1 Jun 2009 (Forum)
One mechanic has had an educated guess that it's the idle control valve and another mechanic thinks it is the coil packs and ht leads, which is really expensive especially if it turns out not to be an accurate guess - I have found an idle control vale on ebay and thought maybe this was worth a try but have no idea which number I would need. -
The VERY simple electric vehicle - why not? 19 May 2009 (Forum)
That would get many people out and about locally. A sort of sub French micro- car. More like a Peel 50. A simple lead acid battery array - nothing fancy. A new deal. Able to park in the City centre at no charge - except a `re-charge` parking meter style plug in re-chargers. I think there`s a gap. Something similar in size to a Peel50/mobility scooter - but simple. -
Peugeot 306 (1993 - 2001) - 1998 1.4 Petrol - Missfire 23 Mar 2009 (Forum)
I have had it in the garage, and a diagnostics has shown nothing wrong. And every time a mechanic drives it the car behaves!! I have had the coil, leads and spark plugs changed and it made no difference at all. I'm at the point where i want rid of the car but i can't sell it like this! I have read a few things online where its been suggested it could be the ECU, also could be a MAP sensor?? -
FIAT Punto II (1999 - 2006) - 01 1.2 Recurring Flat battery 4 Feb 2009 (Forum)
I was unsure about the alternator having a discharge, and I noticed that after I took the alternator off, and put the battery lead back on again, without the alternator fitted, there was no spark from the battery terminal. But when the alternator is back on there is a good spark from the battery terminal. Could the alternator still be at fault, or could it be something else. -
Renault Clio 1 Petrol (1991 - 1998) - 94 1.4 hi fuel consumption 23 Nov 2008 (Forum)
hi all .... i've had a renault clio I RT auto 94 for 7 months... after driving a frontera 2.2 lwb for the past 8 years .....wow its cheap to run.... well it was, its gone from about 40mpg to under 20mpg if im gentle.... its running normally.... i did the usual checks, all connections, plugs, leads... i took the air filter off and ran it, i can see lots of fuel coming from the single injector into the throttle body, i know visually there is too much fuel going in but i dont know the cause.. i'm told the lambda sensor would cause this but im not sure if im testing it right, putting the multi-meter probes into the terminals on the multi connector what readings should i get.... what else should i be testing ?... -
Renault Megane (1996 - 1998) - 96 1.6 - petrol judders 17 Nov 2008 (Forum)
I took it to a local garage who fixed a leaking head gasket ect this cost me £200 but did not cure my problem. I have since been told it could be the HT leads, spark plugs so I changed them to no joy. Then I was told its the coils so ive spent £80 on two coil packs but the car still jumps when you decelerate sometimes when you accelerate you can feel a slight lack of power then it comes back again. -
When do tyres lose their edge in the wet? 12 Aug 2008 (Forum)
The tyres cost about £30 each from a proper one-man tyrefitter in Bayswater, where many fine motors live. I can't remember what make they are, but not one of the leading traditional makes. -
Volkswagen Golf III (1992 - 1997) - 1997 MKIII, 2L GTI - turns over doesn't fire up 4 Apr 2008 (Forum)
All the electrics are okay and the relevant warning lights are lit. My initial thoughts were spark plugs, alternator but these along with the battery, HT leads and distributor cap are all new and working fine. A new ignition coil has been fitted and not sorted the problem. The garage is stumped. They say there is no spark or fuel going to the engine. They think it may be the immobiliser but i am not so sure as my immobiliser would normally not allow any turn over or use of the lights. -
Citroen Berlingo Multispace (1998 - 2010) - 1996, 1.9d, fuel pump/ immobiliser 22 Mar 2008 (Forum)
i am looking at this for a friend - he had the immobilser by-passed by his local garage. A ignition-switched supply was connected to one of two leads to the fuel-cut off solenoid - behind the cover on the lucas fuel pump. Several other wires in this region (not all) were cut at the same time. At the same time, a "miss" developed when under load. -
Nissan Primera IV p12 (2002 - 2006) - '05 2.0 - misfiring 21 Mar 2008 (Forum)
Trying to crawl along on the M25 this evening was a nightmare as the problem seems more acute at lower revs. I'm assuming it's gonna be an electrical thing - faulty coil, spark plug or HV lead. Is this a reasonable assumption or are there other things that could cause these symptoms? What's my best way to diagnose the fault? I'm not a mechanic, but I can manage a basic service (better than nissan can judging by the loose, leaking oil filter I found), so any help much appreciated! -
Winter vehicle health advice 6 Dec 2007 (Forum)
id=4109 Winter vehicle health advice 'ignored by drivers' http://www.honestjohn.co.uk/news/item.htm?id=4111 Seat checks 'to avoid winter discontent' This leads to two questions in my mind. 1. Would the Seat winter checks satisfy the concerns expressed by Motorpoint in the first article? 2. The motorpoint article says "now that the Met Office has predicted this year's winter to be one of the coldest in recent memory." -
Renault Clio 1 Petrol (1991 - 1998) - '97 1.2 86k Stuttering Engine 13 Nov 2007 (Forum)
The Clio engine will stall once stationary or coasting but will immediately start on the key I've cleaned the plugs which looked normal based on Haynes pictures. this resulted in the car maintaining it's idle, although it was rough. Changed the HT leads as they were the originals, no better or worse, same rough idle and no power. Any ideas, I'm thinking fuel filter next, air filter was done a couple of months ago. Up until now the car was running well easy 55mpg, no smoke etc. -
Volkswagen Polo (1981 - 1991) - mk2 1.3 violent judder/mifire under load diagnosis 24 Oct 2007 (Forum)
right weve got a polo mk2 1300 MH engine over a couple of days it started to have a mild judder that turned into a violent jolt (maybe misfire not sure ) and its so bad its undrivable now it starts on the button and seems to drive reasonbly at very light throttle...any normal to heavy throttle and it jolts like crazy...idles great and revs at standstill nicley i thought it was the hall sender and fitted a new dizzy complete with cap and rotor, plugs, leads and coil are very recent as is the fuel pump and carb base its got the dreaded pierburg carb that wasnt running to bad apart from cold mornings any ideas what to do next? could it be the carb causing those faults (id planned to weber it when funds allow) no airleaks that i can tell not sure what to do now , apart from replace random parts -
Category D write offs 30 Jul 2007 (Forum)
When getting quotes as part of the insurance claim he's been told repair will likely be deemed non viable leading to a write off. Clearly he has a perfectly good car, looked after by him with known history that he'd be happy to have fixed with a couple of scrap doors. How do you go about this through the insurance? -
'93 Polo 1.0 - Hesitation under throttle 28 Jun 2007 (Forum)
This is what I have tried: New Cat, Lambda Sensor, New Oil Filter (and Oil Change), Air Filter, Petrol Filter, New Spark Plugs and Leads, New Distributor Cap, and I have put Wynns Injector Cleaner in my Petrol. I've also had other things replaced recently (which shouldn't affect this problem) such as Brake Pads, Discs, New handbrake cable and a whole new exhaust pipe. -
Expensive shine? 15 Jun 2007 (Forum)
It allegedly has a lifetime guarantee and has been 'rigorously tested and approved around the world with leading OEMs such as Mercedes-Benz, Ferrari, Ford and GM'. This coating is said to safeguard bodywork integrity and maintain the car's asset value (although there's no mention of what happens when panels rust through from inside). -
Renault Modus / Alfa brera recalls 24 Apr 2007 (Forum)
It has found that a heat shield may have been fitted incorrectly, or not at all in some cases, and cause damage to a brake pipe. This won't lead to a total loss of braking power, but motorists will lose servo assistance and have to push harder on the pedal as a result. www.whatcar.com/news-article.aspx?NA=225324 ------------------------------ T our V an M an TM < Ex RF > -
