  I am worried about the reply to my question about service history, as follows "Since I have had the car, I did a yearly service. I did not follow BMW's recommended service plan. I felt there was no need and was a bit time consuming and costly to follow their service plan." I am now in two moods, head & heart, with my head saying beware due to past problems with turbo, but as it has had a yearly service would this be OK?

  Plenty in the sunnier parts of the USA of course. Failing that, it will be a case of take a deep breath and let BMW main dealer sort in the spring. Thanks for any suggestions -- somewhere in the Midlands would be great.

  I February this year I began to experience overheating with my 1997 BMW 523i. The RAC could not diagnose the problem directly but advised having the Viscous Coupling on the fan replaced. I booked the car in with my local main dealer who instead replaced the Radiator and Thermostat - telling me that the fan was fine - charging me £450 for the privilege.

  Hello its that man again, After haveing not much luck with dealers off the cars that i liked i thought i would try a BMW garage that i just happened to drive past, now what a difference i know the cars are more expensive but the service is pretty faultless oh and the kids loved the toys and the fact that they got treated well with drinks and sweets.

  Dont want to choose one and then end up being out of pocket, i cant have the diesel version as it is out of my bench mark. Failing the Bmw i can have the passat cc 170diesel or the volvo v50. Any help appreciated {typo in header amended - DD}

  Hi everyone I am new to the forum and my car is a 2000W BMW E39 530D touring SE auto. The problem I have is the car performs very well until it reaches just under 4000rpm then it hits a wall and the accelerator does nothing the car continues to gather speed until it reaches full power at just below 4000rpm by full speed I mean at that rpm it will not rev higher I haven't noticed this before as I very rarely drive at those speeds but as it should do much better I would like it to and I am concerned it might be the start of something serious any advice gratefully received thanks Chris

  I bought privately at £6250 and the interesting aspect is that at 3+ years it has cost well under half the amount I paid in 2003 for my first BMW, though the mileage is quite a lot higher.

  Hi has anyone experienced problems with bmw gearboxs? We have had a 97 728 auto dragged in as a non starter,the dash display shows its still in D so we think thats the reason it wont start but whats caused it? The owner reported that alternator light came on on way home and he couldnt select reverse so he pushed it in neutral.

  My BMW E46 2002 cuts out after a mile after starting, its a total loss of ignition only the battery light comes on,no others, if travelling fast enough when the pedal is pressed it will continue on and the light goes out, some time it will stall completely, if the car is turned off then will restart, sometimes it has to be locked and wait for 5 mins or so the will restart. this is intermittent, and does not leave any fault codes, the car runs sweet as a nut, other than when it dies.

  How do I set about finding the cause of the problem? I would take the door panel off but it has an airbag but I really don't want it to go to a BMW dealer for the second time this month! Meldrew

  I have a BMW 325 saloon. Since I hd the car there has always been some vibration through the steering wheel as I start to apply the brakes but stops as I increase the pressure on the pedal. I also noticed that often agter making an emergency stop this vibration appears for a while at speeds above 50 MPH.

  Somebody must remember this with me - I need to prove this to a cynical mate , an architectural technician who says this cannot happen ; In the 80'S , I SAW a TV advert in the UK for BMW as follows , am certain it was the 3 series ; a 3 series 3 door travels along a production line . A voice says : ' After we hang the doors on the 3 series BMW , we can hang the 3 series BMW by the doors.......

  Should I start using the main dealer or an independent specialist? By the way, I paid £9K. It's done 75K and has a full service history. BMW up to 40K and then specialist after that. It's the Sport auto box and has leather. 2 owners from same family. Drives really nicely. Sound like a good deal?

  I'm looking for a 2nd car and have been offered a 9 yr old BMW 320i by a family friend who's leaving the country. FSH etc and in good condition. The only problem is that the ABS has a intermittent fault and the spare part and labour apparently will cost over £1000.

  I've taken a real fancy to the BMW 330D - it seems to satisfy the dual urges of real driving pleasure in comfort, and respectable diesel economy in manual spec. Can only afford an earlier high miles one, and got my eye on a 2000X 330D SE Tourer with 101k on the clock - standard apart from (stupid) 18-inch alloys and xenons.

  If it helps the car isn't that new and is an X reg 330 ci so selling it back to a BMW dealer probably isn't an option. Any idea how much it's worth? It's in BMW dealer retail condition, any help with setting a value for auction reserve would be great.

  Hello their, I am thinking of buying an 18 month old Audi A6 3.0 TDI or BMW 530i TDI or E class TDI, in each case the 3 litre version or near equivalent. I would be grateful of some opinions on the respective merits of each marque. I am thinking of keeping the purchase for at least 5-10 years, so durability and reliability is important. 10-15 years ago such a decision in my opinion would have been striaghtforward as Merc were the best, but today al premium band German cars cost the earth for so so reliability and quality...but i any event what do fellow back room guys think?

  Without boring you with too much detail, I do not trust BMW to tell me the truth about any work that may be required. I want to take the vehicle to a non franchised BMW specialist who will advise me of any issues that need addressing prior to the warranty expiring- can anyone reccomend one.

  I'm currently 17 and learning to drive at the moment so as you can probably imagine I have quite an interest in cars at the moment. Just dreaming for a minute, I was wondering what you all think of the styling of modern BMWs. I believe they are quite controversial? Personally I love the styling, particularly of the 1 series - it's so sporty and distinctive. I've also noticed through reading the forums that a lot of you seem to hate drivers of Beemers - why is this?
