  • Euro NCAP gives Nissan Navara three star rating 14 Mar 2008 (News)
    Vehicle testing scheme the European New Car Assessment Programme (Euro NCAP) has given three-stars to Nissan's new pick-up the Navara. The Japanese car manufacturer has announced that the group achieved the maximum score available when it assessed its side impact system, while it also proved to do very well protecting a three-year-old.

    Safety features will include ABS with Brake Assist, traction control, Dynamic Stability Control, and Adaptive Cruise Control which senses when the car is getting too close to the car in front and either emits an audible warning or applies the brakes. Passive safety is taken care of by Jaguar’s Advanced Restraint Technology System which senses the severity of a crash and deploys seatbelt pretensioners and airbags accordingly.

    The Mini Coopers that set the pace on a wet Saturday duelled for the lead again in Sunday’s Historic Touring Cars race, before the Ford Lotus Cortinas and Warren Briggs’ menacing Mustang powered to the front of the field.  AC/DC’s Johnson made it two top ten finishes in as many races, hustling his Mini Cooper to eighth overall and class victory.

In the class for two wheel drive cars up to 3 litres, Bristol's Mark Wyatt in the Astra held off the pole sitting turbo SEAT Ibiza of Stonehouse's Bill Brockbank, to take the class victory after the Cupra expired on the penultimate lap.

    We particularly like the look of this 1961 Riley 1.5, an earlier version of which was one of HJ's first cars, bought for £225 but later found to be full of filler and an early lesson learned when buying used cars to always carry a magnet. Brightwells Riley 1.5 is the facelift model with concealed boot and bonnet hinges, but still sitting on what are basically Morris Minor underpinnings with torsion beam front suspension and lever arm dampers.
