Vauxhall Astra 1.7 D - Worth Spending Money Servicing ? 6 Nov 2024 (Forum)
Local independent garage ( with good reviews ) say online it’s £270 for a major service. Sister in law said it needs an oil change and has never changed the anti freeze or brake fluid in three years. The levels look ok to me though. I do a 58 mile trip to work each day to work. Shall I get a service or just get the oil changed? -
BMW 5 Series E39, 530d auto - Refuses to change gear if i full throttle 11 Nov 2012 (Forum)
I have noticed my traction control light is on and one day i full throttled the car it refused to change gear, could this be the gearbox or a simple oil change of the gear box? -
Yamaha Vmax 125cc Scooter - Burst of smoke on startup 3 Jul 2024 (Forum)
I'm thinking oil seepage via worn valve guides and/or piston rings at rest, perhaps aggravated by it actually having a full complement of oil after I changed it. I used Mobil 4T (10W40 IIRC) which should be OK quality and isn't expensive, so probably not fake.. -

OAP ZX TD Problem 5 Jul 2001 (Forum)
There is a significant vibration coming from the front wheels which is road speed related (as opposed to engine speed). I've done the obvious (wheel balance, changed both driveshafts and N/s front wheel bearing without improvement). Before I change the other bearing any ideas? Second guessing at the answer is a gearbox failure resulting in vibration likely (no metallic pieces in drained g/box oil)? -

Extended Service Intervals 11 Jun 2004 (Forum)
With the current trend towards long service intervals, I see many people extolling the virtues of changing oil and filter at 6000 miles. What is this figure based on? Are modern engine oils only good for 6000 miles, after which they deteriorate rapidly, or is it a throwback to the dark ages? Andy -

Isuzu Dmax 2014 - DPF issue 28 Jan 2019 (Forum)
Hi Hope someone can help Bought a new Isuzu Dmax just over a year ago and having some problems. The oil level is rising. Doing some reading on this apparently it's something to do with the DPF cyle and the fact I do a lot of short runs. Can't change my work so need to go on damage limitation. Had the oil changed once between services as I did not like the idea of diesel swishing about in the oil but the level is rising quite quickly and still not got to it's first service at 12000 miles. -

Primera 97 1.6 Preventative Maintenance 3 Feb 2007 (Forum)
Little bit under powered up hills but pretty good/comfortable to drive and does 40 MPG on mixed driving. I replace the filters and plugs every 20K and the oil and oil filter every 6-7K. Always use genuine Nissan parts. Too cheap not to. It is up to 127K now. For continued reliability is it worth changing The manual gearbox oil. I saw that 75W-85 is recommended on here. -
Ford C-MAX (2003 - 2010) - 04 1.8 Oil Warning Light 8 Nov 2015 (Forum)
The mechanic asked if it had ever had an oil change (its done 60,000) and to my knowledge it had not, so he changed the oil and the filter, ran it and said the light flickered off. I paid the 60 or so quid and drove it away no problems. Never used them before though as our regular is on holiday. -
