  • Ford Focus Estate tdci 2005 1.6 - Abs warning light 11 Mar 2013 (Forum)
I have a whirling sound on my Focus the abs warning light came on. In the morning the battery was flat but the car started after a few mins charging. On moving the car to its normal parking spot the abs light would come on if the steering and brake applied at the same time. The battery is less than a year old.The fan belt looks OK and is correctly tensioned.
  • mercedes c200 classic - cigar lighters - adaptors 24 Sep 2011 (Forum)
can you buy a lead/adaptor that will connect one cars cigar lighter to another? I ask because I have a Blackspur battery charger/booster that connects via clamps, but also has a cigar lighter socket. If I could connect the booster via the 2 cigar lighter sockets I could trickle charge, without having to stand outside to keep the boot open (where the battery is on my model.)
  • 1.9d VW Polo - starting???? 26 Jan 2011 (Forum)
Hi John, I have a 1.9D VW Polo and its driving me mad. I have to jump start it everytime I use it . I had a new battery in June last year and have been told the battery is ok. The altenator is charging so after a 150 mile run, you would think it would be ok the next day, but its not. It turns over very slowly or fails to start at all.

  • How long should I leave the car running for? 4 Dec 2008 (Forum)
Haven't started the car for a a good 48 hours due to the icy conditions, the bonnet now has about 1cm ice all over it, and there is snow due tonight. I am worried if I don't start it the battery might die. I don't want to quickly turn the engine over as that will just drain more current so how long should I leave the engine ideling for to give the battery a bit of charge?

  • 106 power steering problem 11 Jul 2007 (Forum)
on a 106 1.5d the car since bought 2 years ago has always needed a 'blip' on the throttle to make the battery light go out and for the power steering to kick in. This has never been a problem until now and it takes a few minutes of driving for the power steering to start. Ive tested the battery which is strong and the alternator belt is new but havent tested the alternator itself as yet.

Anyone got any ideas?? I wonder if the ECU was affected by the dead flat battery or whether it could be just the throttle body that needs cleaning. Cheers, Chris
  • hilux 2.4td M reg charging Fault 21 May 2005 (Forum)
Hello, I own the vehicle above and have a problem regarding the charging system. The batteries are being fried with a high voltage from the alternator. My batteries are having the fluid boiled dry after a few days due to a charging voltage of 17v. I believe this is to be a regulating fault but cannot find any information to help, also where is the regulator on this vehicle as on other vehicles I've owned, it has always been with the alternator.
  • Cooling fans on Alhambra 20 Jan 2005 (Forum)
Anybody had any news of the cooling fans on Alhambra TDi (2002) staying on while parked and locked? This caused a flat battery very quickly and need roadside assistance. The RAC man went immediately to the relays and disconnected them. He then charged my battery and reinstated the relay module. The car is so far OK. He advised changing the module.

  • Astra Isuzu Cold Start Problems 4 Nov 2004 (Forum)
My 93 Astra diesel ( Isuzu engine ) starts fine in the summer but is a nightmare in the winter. The engine spins well but often flattens the battery first. The glow plugs and associated electrics are all good and it had a new heavy battery last winter. Now its getting cold the problems will start again. It has a Bosch injector pump. Can I adjust the cold start on this pump?
  • New alternator? 10 Mar 2003 (Forum)
Took a friend to the garage today because her car was playing up and they said her alternator was dicky. Apparently it wasn\'t charging the battery correctly and if she carried on like that her battery would die. Sometimes also the car was only firing on 3 cylinders... New alternator = £145!! So, is that a fair price, and if so, is there any way of getting around the problem..?
  • It's a General ? (2005 Honda Accord 2.4 L Type-S) - Data on Lifetime of Enhanced Flooded Batteries 10 Apr 2024 (Forum)
Subject which wouldn't fit: Any actual data on lifetime of Enhanced Flooded Batteries (EFBs) in Standard (not Stop-Start) Cars? Pardon the intrusion from across the pond, but EFBs are just starting to be retailed in the US. And this forum was recommended. The EFBs tout enhancements like 1.5-2 greater "cycles" etc.
  • Mokka E - Range Anxiety 10 Apr 2022 (Forum)
Might improve a bit in the summer we shall see.  The Mokka isn't as efficient as some EVs and has only a modest 50kwh battery.   But for me it's quite acceptable.     One thing is its clear to me the range meter is a bad guesser.  I now use the battery pct remaining meter to estimate remaining range.

  • Is it safe to use a jump starter on all cars ? 26 Oct 2017 (Forum)
I have recently been thinking about buying a battery jump starter. I do not want one with an internal battery. Whilst I will probably never need to use it on my own cars I do not doubt the opportunity to use it on colleagues cars will arise.
