  • Should you fit winter tyres? 29 Sep 2011 (News)
Think of how much your car sticks to the road on a warm dry day compared to a cool damp one, and you’ll understand the importance of a softer compound. When it does get particularly cold and it begins to snow, winter tyres provide improved traction too, thanks to tiny gaps in the tread called ‘sipes.’ Sipes purposefully trap snow, which might sound a little strange, but if you remember your days of building snowmen you’ll remember that snow sticks better to other snow than it does anything else.
  • E Types on Parade Again at Chelsea Autolegends 23 Aug 2011 (News)
“He helped make the E-type the icon that it is and it is only right that he should be a special guest at our 50th birthday celebrations for the car.” Now in its second year, Chelsea AutoLegends is packed with important and rarely seen competition cars. There will be displays devoted to Le Mans racers, Group B rally cars and classic bikes. Other displays will tell the ‘Made in Chelsea’ Invicta story and will relive the 1970s era of touring car racing.
  • Big Event at Castle Combe Next Weekend 6 Aug 2011 (News)
All three championships have a number of drivers capable of taking top honours, but with only two rounds left after this weekend, all of them will be looking to maximise their points, with the caveat that reliability can be as important as speed. Retaining a healthy but still vulnerable lead in the Castle Combe Formula Ford 1600 championship is Rob Hall in the Swift SC10. In theory, there are a dozen drivers who could mathematically still depose him, but in reality, the fight is between a handful of contenders.
  • Celebrities in Cancer Charity Fundraiser Race at Silverstone Classic 8 May 2011 (News)
“As they say ‘if you ain’t crashing you ain’t trying. Seriously, though, I had a brush with cancer last year so I know how important it is to look out for these things and that’s why I’m so happy to be here and to be raising funds for such a good cause. I’d obviously like to beat all the other guys but I’m sure that will never happen.
  • Exciting Christmas Crackers in Barons December Auction 20 Nov 2009 (News)
Those looking for a classic British touring car should look no further than the stunning 1969 Jaguar Series 2 E-type roadster. The car was originally imported from Cob County, Georgia and was then the subject of a complete restoration, by Streber of Devon, at a cost of £32,000 in 1991. Since then it is said to have covered just 5000 miles and remains in the same outstanding condition.
  • Mercedes Benz Live Draws 15,000 Fans 12 Nov 2009 (News)
” Ross Brawn concluded by saying: “The opportunity today was to get back to the fans after such a fantastic season and to talk to them, to meet them, to sign autographs, and for me it was wonderful.  These events are very important in bringing the sport of Formula 1 back in connection with our fans - because that is what counts at the end of the day.  “I really enjoy these events and we’re very glad to be able to meet all the people and supporters - particularly all the Brawn GP fans!
  • MINI E (electric) UK Test Drivers Sought 1 Sep 2009 (News)
Southern Electric will be responsible for the electricity infrastructure in the research area and is committed to supplying ‘green energy’ to all drivers of the MINI E.*  The region in which Southern Electric owns the supply network is an important reason for  working with a geographical research sample in South East England. • BCA Highlights Options That Help Sell Vans 7 Feb 2009 (News)
In a similar fashion, the end-user buying at auction will seek out the best vehicle they can buy with the budget they’ve got – and if a van with twin side loading doors, a bulkhead and aircon is on offer that will be the one they bid for, if all the other vans available are basic models.” Ward added “When valuing options, it is important to remember that price is always relative to the current market conditions, the demand from buyers and the presentation of the vehicle itself. For example, in the current market, if you offered a van with every option imaginable, but it was in poor cosmetic condition, any possible premium would be wiped out by the buyers’ concerns about the time it would take to repair the vehicle – when values are falling, time equals money!
  • Think Electric City Car To Go On Sale In UK 22 Mar 2008 (News)

  • 540K Makes £3,967,125 at London Auction 3 Nov 2007 (News)
” Bernie Ecclestone, owner of the biggest collection sold, added: “I started my car collection a long time ago, so passing it on now was an important decision for me to take. I entrusted RM Auctions with this job, and they delivered an impressive service and outstanding results.” RM Auctions is now already looking ahead to its next European auction, returning to the home of Ferrari in Maranello, Italy on May 18, 2008.
  • S-Max and Galaxy at Mobility Roadshow 8,9,10 June 7 Jun 2006 (News)
The S-MAX is a refreshingly sporty and spacious new concept in MPVs, and is closely related in its ultra-contemporary looks to the more spacious Galaxy. Important for those needing to combine generous loadspace for wheelchairs with flexibility of passenger accommodation on these latest models is the Ford Fold Flat System. This allows second and third-row seats to be exchanged with ease for a flat floor almost 2m in length.
  • Events For Disabled Motorists 30 Apr 2005 (News)
Tanni Grey-Thompson comments, “The Seize the Day competition is a great way to mark Gowrings’ anniversary, and shows how committed they are to improving the lives and mobility of disabled people. Adapted vehicles are so important to wheelchair users, as they allow you to be spontaneous and go where you want, when you want. Having a Gowrings Mobility vehicle alters your whole outlook on going out - suddenly you stop reflecting on what you can’t do, start thinking about what you can do, and then acting upon it.
  • Gap Closes Between Used and New 16 May 2003 (News)
One trader who tried to pre-sell it was asked if it had a/c, which is standard on a UK spec GLX. It didn’t, so it had to be an import. Worse still, there were two owners on the V5 and it was thought to have been a taxi. It eventually sold for £7,300. Another oddity was a 17k mile 2001/51 reg Alfa 147 2.0TS Lusso Selaspeed.
  • New SAAB 9-3 Details, Specs and Prices 21 May 2002 (News)
It sits on the Epsilon floorpan developed jointly by SAAB and GM for the new 9-3 and the new Vectra, but differs in several important details: the new SAAB 9-3 structure is more than twice as torsionally stiff as the old Cavalier based car. The suspension is MacPherson strut at the front and multi-link independent at the rear, mounted on subframes by rubber bushes which are laterally stiff for good steering response but longitudinally compliant for good ride comfort and isolation of road noise from the cabin.

Lord Mandleson Backs British Motor Industry With Words 25 Nov 2009 (News)
Clearly one of the most important strands of the Council’s work will involve low carbon vehicle policy. Now, I recognise that there is no silver bullet solution to cutting automotive emissions. But the industry’s consensus around a low carbon road map has provided a very useful tool and was central to the Government’s own strategy for low carbon cars, which we published in April.

In your opinion (and I recognise that it works both ways for major components/engines, etc.) has this been properly reflected in the price of imported continental manufactured vehicles or are importers making hay? May I congratulate you on making such a brilliant contribution to motoring journalism over the years. SK, Sandbach Car prices are subject to supply and demand and that's what determines them.
