• Fixed/Mobile Speed Camera overspeed allowances 21 Apr 2017 (Forum)
  What is the actual percentage allowed today for overspeeding when passing a Speed camera no matter whether fixed or mobile. It used to be 10% +2mph of whatever speed limit is in force and then read somewhere that its now 3% of whatever speed limit is in force. So what is followed today by the Police forces and Safety Camera enforcements.

  advice wanted; Does the tinting on the rear screen & top of windscreeen affect the performance of in car cameras? Does a 'duo' windscreen mounted camera with supposed rear vision cap ability as well, really work effectively to record following traffic? (given that it has a clear field of vision).

  Passed a mobile ANPR camera today, in my van, failed MOT a few weeks ago and havn't driven it since as tyres were low on tread, went to purchase new tyre today and thats all!! But lo and behold there was mobile ANPR camera at roadside, I was not stopped however.

  I am just getting paranoid, I have only done 10 miles and must have passed at least 8 cameras. This is not a debate on cameras as this had been done couintless times on here, I just want to know how the red light cameras work for future reference. Thanks. Is it possible to get 6 points from these cameras e.g if you are speeding and go through on red?

  Twice this week I have seen a police safety camera van parked to the side of the bridge over the M40 at junction 5 with a series of cameras set up on the bridge scanning the traffic travelling north on the London to Oxford carriageway. Just for luck there was an additional camera set up to catch anybody travelling on the Stokenchurch to Ibstone road that crosses the motorway at this point.

  Unfortunately there are no independent witnesses to the lights - however, the lights do appear to have red-light cameras. Two questions; 1) Can I use the lack of a penalty notice (as I'm sure the lights were green) as evidence that the lights were in my favour? I've written to the council asking if the camera was operational. 2) Would a cyclist passing a red light trigger a camera, or do they only respond to cars?

  Another thing that gives me some reason to support cameras in the right cicumstances is that our local IAM driving examiner is a traffic officer and goes out to, and investigates, accidents - and he's a strong supporter of cameras on the grounds of safety.

  However, the images do not appear to give any information on which way the camera is pointing. Therefore how does somebody who does not know the area make use of the information? Am I missing something? The heading info only states that the camera is between Jx and Jy, does the the stated order of junctions indicate whether the camera is on a particular side of the carriageway?

  Speed cameras in France. Having purchased a device to alert me to cameras in the UK and on the continent I road tested it last week. A trip from St Malo to past La Rochelle spotted cameras on the Rennes ring road, the Nantes RR and the La Rochelle RR.
