  • Ford MondeoLX 2005 hatchback - Front suspension/Brakes 7 Jun 2013 (Forum)
ABS warning light comes on mainly after an hour of fast driving without touching the brakes.    On other occasions when I brake I hear a graunching noise from the front accompanied by small jolts from the front as if the car was tripping over a step accompanied by the ABS light sometimes but not always.     Now sometimes I can drive around local all week without any problems.
  • Defective front lights 14 Jan 2006 (Forum)
I've become increasingly aware recently of cars with at least one defective front light (and I don't mean those with fog lamps that won't switch off in clear visibility!), so going home last night (suburban Wolverhampton/Shropshire countryside) I did an inpromptu count.

  • Driving in France - Beware 26 Jul 2013 (Forum)
I've just come back from a great holiday in France - however I witnessed a Gendarme sting exercise in a major service station whilst driving south between Calais and Rouen. There were a few blue Gendarme cars/vans and a double decker car transporter full of cars - some with roof boxes etc.. and as far as I could see as I nervously drove past ALL the cars were from the UK. They were also in the process of "dealing" with another car.
  • Someone got my goat..... 8 Jun 2005 (Forum)
when they parked their car right in front of my front door yesterday! But now I am calm :) Our house is on a main road with the front door about 2 feet from the kerb. It's not a busy road and people quite legally park outside our house.

  • Front Wing Mirrors 23 Jun 2003 (Forum)
Saw a Shogun today with a wing mirror at the front passenger side, literally on the wing. Presumably to help "Mrs" Shogun manoeuvre the car. Made me think though - when did mirrors move from wings to car doors, who was first to do it and what prompted it?
  • Tyre life - what's reasonable ? 28 Jul 2009 (Forum)
I'm just curious here, swmbo's VW Eos bleeped its low pressure warning, and I discovered a nail in a front tyre. :-( On examination the tyre tread depth blocks were only just clear of the tyres running surface, so it will be 2 new front tyres please. Mileage is 22.5k I would have thought to have done better than this, would this be typical for the fronts of a fwd car with a diesel engine, driven normally ?
  • Mk1 Punto front exhaust mounting 18 Sep 2006 (Forum)
I've just noticed that this mounting appears to have come adrift. It appears to be fixed at one end to the front subframe via a rubber mount but the end attached to the exhaust just past the right angle bend appears to have been welded to the exhaust pipe and this joint has failed so the mounting bar is just flapping around under the car.
  • Kia Ceed crdi - Seized Jam nut on tie rod / track rod end 7 Mar 2024 (Forum)
Hi   I’ve recently had my car tracking done but the jam nut was seized on the tie-rod, the mechanic used a blow lamp to heat the nut, then when he started to turn it he gave it a squirt of WD40   It did the trick, but would this have damaged or hardened the tie-rod with the WD40 cooling the metal too quickly?
  • Lorry Fires 22 Jan 2017 (Forum)
The reports on the radio were talking about a "lorry fire". It seems to me that this is a fairly regular occurance, and it always seems to be lorries: never cars or vans. Why is that: is it just that there's more power available and therefore more heat when a brake sticks or a bearing fails? Or is it something to do with trucker's lifestyles like custom electrical modifications?
  • 08 Mini Cooper petrol - Water leak 7 Nov 2014 (Forum)
while getting mot, my girlfriend was told a slight leak at water pump. She then noticed blower was taking ages to heat up . I assumed loss of water causing this and this means I'm filling up radiator reservoir each week. I can't see any major puddle under car. Does this sound like the pump causing this? I'm no mechanic but just looking for advice before I take it to garage.
