But there were exceptions, and a few surprises too. No surprise that a spotless 54k mile 10 reg Audi A3 2.0TDI S-Line with a perfect set of fancy, unkerbed alloys made almost retail at £12,050.

In the same section a 32k mile 04 Jazz 1.4SE CVT-7 only bid to a provisional £5,800, while a 42k mile 04 reg Picasso 2.0SX auto sold for £4,800. So once again, plenty of sensibly priced 3 year old automatics in the Motability section. Even better value, maybe, was a 26k mile semi-automatic 2005/54 reg Smart Forfour 1.5CDI Passion, sold for £5,800. But it’s questionable why Citroen saw fit to reserve three year-old 06 reg C1 Rhythm 5-drs with 6k to 10k miles at something like £5,400 when anyone can have a new Vibe 3-dr for £5,450.

A really horrible 2006/56 Aygo with 43k miles and kerb-ground alloys made a huge £4,750. While an old shape 05 Honda Civic 1.6 VTEC SE auto with 29k miles sold for £6,150s, reflecting the demand still out there for these cars. Mazda MX-5 have picked up strongly after their winter doldrums.
