  • Is this bit important? 10 Feb 2003 (Forum)
Ah, happy days. Been a while since I had a car that bits drop off as you drive along, last 5 years had Toyotas, bullet-proof but boring. My Xantia has a bit under the engine that I can only descibe as a sump cover board. Its an oily horrible board that covers the bottom of the engine from the front bumper to the footwells and from wheel arrch to wheel arch.
  • Heat/water problem on 94 Corsa SRi 16 Dec 2002 (Forum)
The needle falls when the engine is stopped so its not stuck there. There is now more yellow gunk in the top cover than before, no noticeable water loss however - and even when i leave the engine running with the car sat still, the needle will not rise to 90, previously it would take about 5 minutes before the temp had risen enough for the fan to kick in.
  • Insurance dilemma part 2 6 Jul 2002 (Forum)
Both Tesco (her insurers) and Zurich (the other party) offered separately to deal with the claim which meant her ageing car was written off as uneconomical to repair. Zurich were the quicker of the two, accepting their customer was fully to blame, and offering a settlement which more than covered the minimal purchase value of the admittedly low-mileage car, together with £200 over which compensated for inconvenience, my time spent recovering the car on daughter's behalf and having it inspected.
  • Nissan Leaf - Manufacturers’ warranty 21 Feb 2023 (Forum)
Also, courtesy car is proving tricky with one dealer saying none available, another charging £35 for insurance cover. My question is; do these new car warranties come with a guaranteed level of service? Is there a legal duty to diagnose and repair the car quickly?
  • Just how ugly can a car get? 12 Feb 2021 (Forum)
With cars like the Rolls Royce Cullinan and Bentley Bentayga pushing the bounderies of how ugly a car can get, it was with some surprise I came upon a car which makes the above two look like swans.  The Aznom Palladium, heard of it?
  • Ugh - buying a car 20 Jun 2009 (Forum)
After six weeks we have finally put down a deposit on a new car. We have so far: Made 25 dealer visits... ...to 18 different dealers... ...and seen over 30 models of car... ...from 14 manufacturers... ...covered over 200 miles... ...and I have taken three whole days off of work and lost several weekends in the process.
  • Tesco extended car warranty 19 Mar 2009 (Forum)
Car in question is a Citroen C4 - 50,000 miles - currently do around 15k a year. Car has been reliable so far but am thinking what the mileage racking up could may be worthwhile.
  • GAP insurance 23 May 2005 (Forum)
About to buy a new car. The salesman was desperate to sell me GAP insurance (at about £400). This apparently covers the difference betweeen the initial cost of the car during the first three years (if a total wreck) and what my insurance company would pay out.
  • Why would a dealer register a used car ? 12 Dec 2001 (Forum)
I always thought that the "trade" didn't have to register cars - would they have registered it to get round some tax issue or similar ? Or maybe it could be to cover up something more sinister......... ? Any answers/ ideas would be welcome ....... if only to put me out of my misery.
  • Vauxhall Crossland X 2020 - Advice: Is my exhaust too low? 20 Jul 2025 (Forum)
I just had a new aftermarket exhaust fitted to my car by one of the big dealers after they reported the original was damaged. My neighbour pointed out to me that it looked very low as he spotted it while parking behind my car. Is this too low? It certainly looks like a high speedbump might make contact.
  • MG ZS 2017 - 5 Month update and 5000 miles 7 Jun 2019 (Forum)
So, Over 7200 miles now, Still happy with fuel economy,  Car driving well and still around 40-41 mpg, which is entirely acceptable given the size/weight of the car. Some niggles, minor but still niggles,,, retaining hook for string of parcel shelf on tailgate broke. very minor...
  • Ford Focus - Buying 31 Jan 2016 (Forum)
Delivery miles.   Both cars would be 65 plate.   Which deal is the best one?
  • Same Insurance Company 15 May 2015 (Forum)
Hi All   So I have had a non fault car accident which has resulted in quite a bad injury to myself, I have just got off the phone to the insurance company, who said they will pass my details on to a third party and they will cover any legal fees as it on my policy, however when they notice that the other car was insured with their company they said that they can deal with everything in house and not have to get a third party involved and would save me any legal fees.
  • Nissan Micra Qashqai - How do I find out when I made an insurance claim ? 17 Oct 2010 (Forum)
I'm trying to renew the cover on mine and my wife's car. We're both named drivers on each other's car. I know I made a claim in 2007 or 2006 when I dropped a set of ladders onto my Passat bonnet :( but can't find the paperwork.
  • VWgolf MK V - diesel losing power 27 Apr 2010 (Forum)
Asked for some advice a few weeks ago on this issue. Had the car into the garage and they told me the diagnostics indicated that the turbo boost switch was faulty. They replaced this and the car was fine for a few days. Took it back and they are now saying it is the air mass flow meter which will be covered by the warranty.
  • Parking- "no return within 3 hours"- meaning...? 25 Jul 2009 (Forum)
To the area? If I move my car one space down the road in 3 hours time after obtaining another ticket, am I ok? Doubtless this info is available on the Glasgow City Council website, but this doesn't seem to be available today. Apologies if this has been covered on the forum, but a forum search found nothing close.
  • Citroen Saxo (1997 - 2003) - vtr 2001 - cam belt; amount of free play? 26 Sep 2007 (Forum)
got a 01 Saxo vtr ( 8 valve), cam belt was changed 35k ago, just cleaned the cover for it, and noticed there is some play in the belt, not across the top pulley, but from the top pulley to the bottom one, where the belt is facing the front of the car, there 15/20mm or so of free movement, that ok?
  • Trader advice 29 Jun 2007 (Forum)
Would I be covered for the above issues under the 28 days engine and gearbox warranty? Thanks guys
  • Monster Truck challenge! 22 Jan 2006 (Forum)
I'll go for Impreza because it's uglier and it makes a noise like Citroen 2CV covered in matresses. Cheers, SS - sorry if I've upset any owners of the above types but as I've owned an Austin Allegro and Hillman Hunter in the past I've taken my fair share of car-dissing too!
  • Our own motoring programme 17 Aug 2005 (Forum)
You can have any (motoring) subject, any presenter, alive or dead. I'll start with driving techniques and anything to do with Honda - LJKS Motorsport reporting, to cover F1, BTCC, Indy, whatever they do in Oz and generally everything - Tiff Needell (Jason Plato second choice) News / new cars - James May Used cars - err Mike Brewer ? I'll shut up now and leave you take it from there.
