• LTI - Buying Used Taxi 8 Aug 2017 (Forum)
  For some reason everybody seems to think I am an expert on taxis! A friend has run a V6 Galaxy for the past 6/7 years. The running costs have always been high but this year there have been some horrendous servicing/repair costs (current mileage 140k). With ever larger ones looming he has decided to give up on it.

  So my car was hit and run on the 16th and the driver failed to stop i was made aware of this by my neighbour i have a witness to the incident and the drivers registration i reported this to the police straight away they said they will look into it and get back to me they got back to me within a couple of hour and said all i can do is prosecute which i chose not to i informed my insurer who said i would need to make a claim on my own insurance to repair the car which i dont really want to do i have done a mib check and informed his insurer of the incident  and they had no account of it because the over party has obviously not reported it  what should i do in this incident my insurer are looking to put the third party at fault but i dont want my ncb to be effected my insurer and his insurer have the witnesses details and the police log no. i could go down the v888 form route but i think it will be a waste of time.

    And an informed talk with proprietor about the car's condition, long-term prospects, etc. Took it for a good run and I really am pleased with it.  Looking forward to a 1200+ mile run to France in Spring and a 2500 mile run to Andorra in summer. Had the car been terminal I planned to buy a new Dacia on PCP at £100/month.

  I am aware I should have cancelled the policy but genuinely forgot after initial delay with intent to replace that car (i have many policies running and dont track them very well). I would like to contest my liability for that claim but do not know where I stand legally at the moment. Any help or suggestion gratefully received.

  The engine was lively and healthy until I unfortunately was unable to use the car and it was garaged for 2 years. I've started running it again and it goes as well as ever with the exception of a lot of oil burning and crankcase pressure which I never had before. I'm more or less convinced that I have sticky rings on a couple of cylinders as the car runs like a rocket for 50 or 60 miles but then gradually starts to foul itself and run poorly whilst blue smoking under power.

  Been working on Son-in-Laws Vectra.  Poorly maintained but runs well.  Recently engine light coming on and staying on. Error code comes back as faulty cam sensor.  Replaced twice, still registers same fault.  If fault was cam sensor would expect car to run but badly.

  A few weeks ago the glow plug light started flashing and it became difficult to start from cold as if the glow plugs aren't working. It was running really rough with a lot of knocks and shaking. I had the codes read and there was a problem with injector 2. I got a replacement from my local scrap dealer and got my local garage to fit it. This cured the running problem, the car now has lots of power and runs better than ever when it's up to temperature.

  I have checked all the usall culprits like Battery, changing the Fuel and air filters etc. It has been suggested it could be an injector fault, but the car runs fine with no eratic idle problems once running. Has anybody come across this problem with their Toyota Lucida, and point me in the right direction?

  30th May 2012 Still loosing water 1-1.5Ltr on 50 -60 mile run but no big loss on local runs of 20 -30 miles. Garage pressure tested cooler system. O.K. Block test system O.K. Replaced Oil COOLER Road test O.K.Drove 180 mls very small water lose. Drove 60 miles on motorway needed over 1 Ltr water to top up coolant system.
• MK3 Mondeo TDCI 115 - Misfire on start up 28 Dec 2011 (Forum)
  If I try and hold the revs at say 2000rpm it will be like choking up on it's self, the revs will be stuttering and dropping up and down and I'll get white smoke coming out of the exhaust. Once the cars been running for a few minutes it starts to clear it's self up, and once it's running normal after around 5 mins or so, it's fine, up until the cars left to go fully cold again.The car does not put out smoke if just left to idle, or reved lightly, just if i try and keep it at a certain rev range.

  A new battery was obtained and the car starts easily and runs with this. However, the alternator warning light now comes on, but didn't previously. The alternator had been replaced in the past few years, the original having expired after 100,000+ miles; the replacement has probably done less than 10,000.
• Vw Golf mk4 150pd - New engine 30 May 2011 (Forum)
  Has had all sorts of intermittent judders all of which self -resolved with no faults found on diagnostics. New clutch at 120k and dmf at 130k - was running fine a that time. Engine now sounds gruesome. On my independent mechanic's advice got local dealer to have a look. dealer recommends not running it at all to avoid catastrophic failure. They reckon needs new pistons, cam shaft, conrods, the lot.

  this problem very occasionally reappeared but only when using cheap diesel and would gradually dissapear. About 2 weeks ago it came back and now seems more persistant but i did run for 5 hours on hols this weekend and only stuttered briefly as i arrived but then cleared for 2 days. but on the way home it was permanently there but for maybe 1-2 or 3-4 minut bursts, and going through the gears it was okay in some not others. it also idles occasionally at 1200 then slowly drops to normal and this morning it started grumpy but an hour later ran okay for a short run??

  Hi all my problem is my 2004 vauxhall combo diesel van its done 111.000miles and will start fine first thing in the morning but when its been running and got warm it will not start untill after about an hour and half then it will start after a few turns. I took it to a mechanic a few weeks ago( if he realy was) he had it for over two weeks(i know pi** taker) i was fuming he then phone me and said the problem was inside the engine and it will be cheaper to put a new engine in because he thinks its the rings. it does not smoke when its running at tickover and drive fine when its running and does not cut out. this is what he said he had done.

  Hi, My daugters Beetle has been giving problems during the last week or so (since the drop in ambient  temps) when running from cold first thing in morning. It starts as normal but soon starts to "splutter" with lack of power and drives as if in "limp mode" ,there is also a warning light on the illuminated .However once the coolant warning light goes out after a mile os so the engine springs back into life ,the dash warning light goes out and all is back to normal.
• Ford Fiesta (1989 - 1995) - 96 1.3 petrol stalling at low revs 4 Nov 2010 (Forum)
  The strange thing is that if you let the engine revs down very slowly we are able to keep the engine running.The engine ticks over OK and other than this stalling problem runs fine. I have had it into my local garage and they have run a full diagnostic test on the car and no fault has shown up.I am a bit reluctent to take it back straight away because I can see a very expensive trial and error situation start where as the garage will start replacing various parts of the engine in a hope of fixing the problem.

  I bought a second hand BMW 5 series from an authorised dealer last year (07 plate). At the time the salesman infromed me the car came with run flat tyres and as there was no spare wheel or inflation device provided I assumed this to be correct. I've recently discovered the tyres are not run flat (when I got a puncture!) and feel that I was mis-sold the car.
