    Of the 997s, a 42k mile 2001X but 1999 build 3.4 Carrera S Tiptronic sold for £28,800, a 17k mile 2003/53 3.6 Carrera 2 Tiptronic convertible with hardtop sold for £43,400, a 12k mile 03 reg 3.6 Carrera 4 convertible, also with hard-top, bid to £43,300 provisional, and an 18k mile 02 reg 3.6 Carrera 4 Turbo sold for £51,700. Big BMWs too seemed to be taking a hit. A 20k mile Y reg X5 3.0i auto sold for £16,900, a 12k mile 04 reg 645CI convertible sold for £42,750, a 73k mile 2000X 728i with satnav and a TV sold for just £9,000, a 58k mile 2002/52 745i didn’t sell at £23,750.

    Even a 41k mile 2001/51 Bora TDI 130 sold for £7,600. With haircutting now an extremely risky occupation BMW 320ds have become very mileage sensitive. A 46k mile 2002/52 320dSE sold for £12,400 and a 29k mile 04 reg 318dES bid to £13,300. But all a 73k mile 02 reg 320dSE could raise was £9,450, while a 100k mile 02 reg 320dSE stuck at £8,350.

    A 21k mile 2001/51 MG ZT-T 190PS Tourer sold for £8,050. A 75k mile 2001X facelift and loaded BMW 535i sold for £10,000. A 37k mile 03 reg new shape Honda Accord 2.0i Executive bid to £10,400. And, in an odd contrast, a 35k mile 2001/51 MG ZR 1.4 105PS sold for £5,100 yet all an 8k mile 2003/53 (two years newer) Rover Streetwise 1.4 105PS with the same level of equipment could raise was £5,200.

    Supplied with its Classiche 'Certificato di Autenticita', it sold to a bidder in the room for £270,000. Competition cars also performed well at the sale, with a 1964 Elva-BMW Mk 7S (FIA), with extensive race history and multiple class wins, going to a new owner for £76,500, more than £20,000 above its lower estimate. A left-hand drive 1964 Porsche 356C Road Rally with 25 years of competition history also sold significantly over estimate, with the hammer finally falling at £69,750 including premium.

There were special awards for three of the 107 crews that crossed the start line at Brooklands Motor Museum on Thursday, as the event returned to its roots with an exciting new ‘Brooklands to Edinburgh’ route over four days of exceptional motoring.
  • Government announces £500m “electric highways” trials 18 Aug 2015 (News)
    The Government has commissioned a £500m study into technology that could allow electric vehicle owners to charge their vehicle as they drive. The study is being conducted with BMW and Renault and could result in wireless charging panels being embedded beneath the surface of public motorways, which will then charge electric vehicles as they drive over the surface of the road.   The announcement is the results of a two-year Government feasibility study to look at various ways of reducing the range anxiety that prevents many from buying pure EVs. The study focused on the possibility of installing a Dynamic Wireless Power Transfer (DWPT) system beneath the UK’s major motorways.

    He took his first international rally victory at the wheel of a Porsche 911 in the 1969 Monte Carlo Rally, while his last international victory came at the wheels of a Toyota on the 1990 Safari Rally, making Bjorn the oldest driver ever to win a WRC event. Along the way he drove for Porsche, Lancia, Ford, Mercedes-Benz, BMW and Toyota. Sadly Bjorn succumbed to cancer last year, aged 70. Race Retro will honour his with a simple display of cars representing the Safari Toyota, his class winning RAC Toyota and the iconic 1975 RAC Lancia Stratos.
