Nissan Qashqai? - Affordable new/used family car for long commute 3 Jan 2016 (Forum)
The most important criteria are: • A decent sized boot for my greyhound (when I'm not driving to work) • Really good fuel economy - I'm looking for at least 50mpg. • Total monthly running cost no higher than my rail season ticket of £400pm (I may get a small compensation allowance on top but probably no more than £100pm). • I haven't yet decided whether to get a new car on a PCP/PCH or a 3-4 year old one with a personal loan. -
Vauxhall Corsa D - Bought a dodgy car, its been 26 days... 17 Nov 2015 (Forum)
--[endif]--> DPF Filter missing – You told me when having problems with the DPF to run it down the motorway. I did over 300 miles in this car and even used Forbes DPF cleaner. I even had the cars DPF forcefully regenerated to try and resolve this issue. Only after having taking it to a diesel specialist did I find out the DPF was missing, even though this is a legal requirement for the car, and therefore would be considered an MOT failureFord Focus 2007 - TDCI Cutting when cold 4 Sep 2015 (Forum)
Once it starts it will start fine all day. It's also more likely to start in the morning if it's been run late the night before. I returned the car back to the garage who have had it in / out of their workshop for the past month, they don't seem to be able to diagnose the problem. It's also been to a ford dealer and they can't find anything either.Mitsubishi FTO - dealer not helping 24 Jul 2015 (Forum)
I do not expect them to pay towards the initial bill but think they should take responsability for the gearbox to some degree. they are saying that i should have returned car or let them know within 3 months. please help. they are now not responding to my emails and get given the run around if i phone them. many thanks in advance StuartVauxhall Zafira A - Ecotec 1.6 - turns, fires, immediately cuts out. 1 Jul 2015 (Forum)
Reconnect the crank sensor and back to firing/cutting out straightway. Now have a 0335 error code (which makes sense I suppose having run it withoug crank sensor connected). I've now broken the "lock" on the sensor connector so it doesn't stay in tightly, but as that was after these problems I don't think that's relevant. Replaced crank sensor but no change at all.Honda CR-V - Vibration at low speed only. 25 May 2015 (Forum)
I called Cox Motor Group and they quoted me a great price for both front inner cv joints. Fitted them myself, and hey presto. The car runs like a dream. Like a new car. So if you have a vibration at low speed beware of aftermarket or reconditioned parts when it comes to driveshafts. Your better off with original Honda parts.Mitsubishi Colt 3-door - Can't get past 2000rpm, but only sometimes !?!?!? 12 Sep 2014 (Forum)
Here's one for you to get your head ticking on a Sat morning :) I bought my Mitsi Colt Equippe 1.3 a few weeks back to use as a run around and also for my chinese delivery saturday job. It drove great for the first few hours, then when I turned the engine on after maybe 10 or 11 short journeys, I couldnt get past 2000 rpm, the yellow engine light was on too...Mazda MX-5 - Deeply Flattened Car Battery, Revival Techniques ? 7 May 2014 (Forum)
The 'settled open circuit voltage' is always a healthy 12.6 to 12.8 volts but as soon as you apply a load to it, even just sidelights, the voltage falls to below 12 volts and attempting to engage the starter motor/solenoid just results in a rapid clicking noise, at the best, and battery volts falling to below 8 volts, even just on full beam headlamps with the engine not running. Everything else electrics wise seems to be ok and once 'started on the jump leads' the engine ran smoothly and battery volts stabilised at around 14.8 volts with the alternator keeping things all hunky dory!SAAB 9-3 (2002 - 2007) - 2003 2.2 TID - loss of power 25 Feb 2014 (Forum)
Any ideas on that? POST 3 - UPDATE Getting a tow to SarbKar in Liverpool on Thursday - £30 They will run Tech II diags - £50 What will they then do?? I haven't got a clue! Thanks, Peter {Subject header made less vague - DD}Ford focus hatchback - 1.6 Petrol auto 07 - Are the CVT/DSG autos any good now??? 31 Jan 2014 (Forum)
I can see the benefit of these gearboxes compared to a conventional auto in theory but my priority is to have a reliable car that's capable of 100k+ with predictable running costs. Are these 'next generation' CVT/DSG gearboxes still the unreliable mess they once were, when they'd fail & need replacing at 45k miles at a cost of £5000 or would they be worth taking a chance on in 3 years time - will one of them 'fit the bill'?any - another one of those 'which car' questions! 5 Jan 2014 (Forum)
The car will be mainly used for a 15 mile commute each day (50:50 town and 50mph A road) with me taking it say once a week on a longer 50 mile round trip to work on dual carrigeway and maybe a run out at weekends. Probably looking at max 10k per year. Intend to keep the car until we retire in 3 and a half years and replace it with something really nice bought from the lump sum. My main car is a 2.0 TDci Mondeo IV which oddly enough the wife loves but we really don't need two big cars.VAUXHALL VECTRA 2003 1.8i LS 5d - Is this the end of the road for my vectra 19 Nov 2013 (Forum)
Basically, a few months ago the 'check airbag' light on the dashboard came on. It is a steady light which stays ON all the time when the engine is running. All other diagnostics lights turn off after inginition but the 'check airbag' light stays on. I have taken it to 2 garages (independent and dealer) and spent money on initial diagnostics and have got nowhere.audi a4 v6 - 2.5tdi v6 start issue after camshaft replacement 19 Oct 2013 (Forum)
could a new near £35 sensor be duff on purchase?? would this make a difference i wonder?.. battery seems ok 12.5v standing. 14v running and 10.3v during cranking. seems the same voltage during a 2 turn start as a 6/7 turn start mulitmenter stays obove 10v when cranking so not wanting to spend £100 on a new battery just yet!2007 Passat 2.0TDi (PD140) - PD140 wont start 27 Jun 2013 (Forum)
Due to logistical reasons I had to continue driving it for two weeks, but without any problems (no starting difficulty, running smooth, etc). This past Friday I took it back to the workshop to have the oil drained after the head replacement. When I collected the car in the afternoon, it started fine and no warning lights lit up.Throttle Hesitation in Xsara HDi 22 Mar 2013 (Forum)
One other thing is that the cars overall performance in terms of acceleration seems to be down slightly. At this stage, I've lost all confidence with the Citroen dealer and my patience is rapidly running out with the national importer. Nothing has been done in the last three months other than check the diagnostics. All ideas are most welcomeNissan Almera Tino - Nissan Almera Tino - Engine Malfunction Indicator 4 Feb 2013 (Forum)
It stayed on for a day then went off again. It stayed off for a week (during this time it was still running jerky), then it came back on again. I had a mechanic friend rig it up to a diagnostic unit which reported "Random Misfire" - he suggested that although it was fairly common for various sensors to go, the fact that it was driving jerky suggested it was unlikely to be a sensor.bmx x6 - I Bought a Stolen Car without Knowing 26 Jan 2013 (Forum)
On the 09/01/12 the police investigators came to my property to run checks on the car and they informed me that the car was actually a clone it had been stolen and made to look legit the number plate had been changed and so was the VIN So the car has been taken away by the police I and my pregnant girlfriend are £21,500 out of pocket we are expecting our first child.Ford festa - Please help new Injector seals replaced by garage. 21 Oct 2012 (Forum)
I didn't want to try and fix them myself but now I wish I did... so I dropped my car to my local garage to have the injector seals done...before it went in it drove perfect nice and nippie only a ticking noise and the smell of fual ..so they had it for the day from 8.30 and called at 6pm to say it was all done but as soon as I took it for a drive I could tell something was wrong it had no power like the turbo wasn't working ...so I took it back to the garage first thing in the morning and told them that it's feels flat and there's no power so they said oh it's ok maybe the vacuum pipe was left off ...so I left it with them went back they told me again yer it's all done it runs lovely ...but no when I dove it still no power ..so I took it strate back again they said leave it and they will have a look at it again they then said they can't find what's wrong it maybe the air flow meater so they changed that still no luck ...then they said it could be the ECG so they plated that off to try that ...but guss what still no joy so they tried diagnostics mec to find a problem but come back with no faults ...then they got another mechanic who only deals with deasel cars he looked at what they had done and said he can't see any problems with there work ..so he got he's diagnostic mec and he didn't come up with any faults..and then he said he would come back monday with a better diagnostics that can look deeper... and then they said it could be the ecu and that could be expensive to fix ..so they had the car for 4 days I got it back for this weekend as I had to go somewhere so I took it on the motorway wow it was painful not to say dangerous it just about got to 70 mph I could not overtake as there's no power I have to take it back in the morning ...monday ...for them to take a look again so I was wondering if anyone on hear has some advice for me...I LEASE FROM MOTABILITY BUT I WANT TO BUY NOW 14 Sep 2012 (Forum)
I have happily leased a motability car now for quite some time, I am on my 3rd car and fairly soon I will have to decide do I choose another New car or do I hand back the keys and go back to buying my own 2nd hand cars...I have tried to weigh up the odds, The cost of running a old 2nd/3rd hand car as apposed to renting a new car, I love the new car thing but things have deffinatly changed with motability, They have greatly reduced the amount of suitable cars with respect to how much I can afford for an advanced payment for the car that meets my needs, I need an AUTOMATIC, I also need a car that is very easy to get in and out and also with plenty of leg room, Unfortunatly I cannot afford the very expencive A/P For anything 100% suitable, So I would have to accept a car that would be uncomfortable for me to get in & out to keep within my budget...Your thoughts on my possible car change 10 Feb 2012 (Forum)
Audi A4 or A6 but, apart from the 3.0D, they appear to be slower than the above and slower than my current XJ BMW 3 series or 5 series.Seeem to have a good name but, well, they are rather boring looking machines and the Run Flats are of no use to me as, when home, my nearest Big tyre fitter is 87miles away from my front door. Mercs are out as the wife doesn't like them and, I must admit, the newer ones have a Front End that seems a bit "American" to me....not pretty.
