  • Lotus Eletre - First drive 1 Oct 2023 (Forum)
The ‘R’ specification will be arriving soon with 918ps. Lots of technology (it’s Level 4 autonomous ready, with cameras & sensors in place but disabled for the UK) in the cabin and externally, and very configurable to suit a new owner’s tastes. Like any EV, it’ll potter about the busy roads of Colchester (other busy towns and cities are available), but given a higher speed limit it’s effortlessly accelerated to a higher velocity.
  • Gadgets (or features) I've never had 30 May 2023 (Forum)
From the top of my head: Diesel Automatic transmission More than 5 forward gears Climate Leather seats Heated or electric anything seats More than 4 cylinders More than 110bhp Parking sensors or camera Headlamp washers Electric parking brake and despite driving for 45 years Leaf springs Grease nipples Drum front brakes Or a car I couldn't rely on to get me home.
  • Romanian registered former UK cars 24 Sep 2022 (Forum)
I am not sure why it is necessary to drive these cars all the way to Romania and then bring them back, rather than just leaving them as UK registered cars, except that now the cars would be impervious to speed cameras and parking fines. A lot of the cars seemed to be poorly maintained. You would also wonder if you had an accident with one of these Romanian registered cars and it was the other drivers fault, what your chance of claiming to repair your own car would be?
  • Vauxhall corsa 2002 - Failed Emissions on MOT tried everything? 23 Mar 2022 (Forum)
2002 corsa failed just over the limit on 2nd lambda reading, have changed both sensors, spark plugs, air filter, oil change, temp sensor, oil filter, repaired small hole in exhaust, cleaned throttle block, etc. Even had a camera put into the CAT and shows no breaks or anything. Still just over the limit to pass!  Used lots of engine & cat cleaner. Mechanic said may be a little too much fuel going thru the engine?  No faults on diagnostics and no Engine light.
  • Honda CR-V III - Parking sensors 20 Aug 2018 (Forum)
The centre alarm is the only one to show on the screen. I know I can turn the whole thing off, especially with the rearview camera to help, but I like things to work on the car, however non-vital they may be. As the car's just out of guarantee - of course - I'm now facing a fairly hefty bill, although the dealer has apparently asked Honda to cover it, due to fairly low mileage and no other claims.
  • Ford Ranger - Pickup truck hit my car 10 Jan 2018 (Forum)
Highway authorities couldn’t provide the video clip of the incident eventhough I gave the exact time & place. They had cameras around that place. I was reading some forum that he needs to have a hard top/Rigid top for the entire pickup truck to drive in the outside lane. Is it true?. Whether there is any restriction to have speed limiter in his truck?

  • A brief open letter to lorryists 16 Jul 2013 (Forum)
You may be aware of a proposal to ban lorries overtaking on a certain stretch of the A12, for those not aware, please see the following link; http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-essex-22700170 This slightly odd but well meaning proposal has predictably been met with ridicule from the areas lorryists. It didn't take long for local BBC News to put one in front of the camera with the sole purpose of completely missing the point. Typical lorry driver response; The problem isn't us, its car drivers, its them doin firty-five on the for'een innit?! Dear Lorryists, Please stop missing the point on purpose.
  • Fiat Qbo Wav - Unfair PCN & Appeal 2 Sep 2012 (Forum)

  • Landrover Td5 - 35 in a 30 on Maybray Kingway A3204 Southampton. 26 Jun 2012 (Forum)
I had never driven on that road before, and I am SO p***ed off as all the subliminal signs, (built like a motorway)  plus the fact that all the single built up roads to that spot are posted as 40's, I feel like going in front of the beak, and trying to see if he/she would see reason.   I saw the camera and was dawdling, and was v surprised when it flashed, but even more so to get a NIP for 35. Has anyone risked going and telling the magistrate the obvious, or have we all bottled and taken the Speed awareness course.
  • ABD Calls For Slow Driver Legislation 18 Aug 2011 (Forum)
The ABD is not, however, supporting proposals by the comparison website for minimum speed limits enforced by cameras. ‘If everybody drove at the speed a reasonable person would expect to travel, the roads would be much safer, less stressful places for all,’ said ABD chairman Brian Gregory.
  • Chevrolet Matiz - Unlit Speed Limit Signs 26 Jan 2011 (Forum)
I have been "Flashed" by a fixed speed camera at night at the start of a small town in Northamptonshire. The speed limit signs that were about 400 yards back were not lit nor were there and street lighting making the signs difficult to see in the dark and almost invisible when travelling towards the town if another vehicle is coming towards you.
  • Traffic lights - heavy rain and on amber 8 Jun 2009 (Forum)
Now this is bad but better than going through on amber however what would have happened if the lights had a camera? Would I have gone done for this or do they have to proove you jumped the lights completly? Just interested to see what others think and what others would have done in my situation, if I had more experience I might have been more prepaired but with less than 1000 miles solo in my clock I am still making this sort of mistake.
  • Minicab driver's insurer does not want to pay up. 17 Oct 2008 (Forum)
I will have to replace my door and other trim, however when I contacted the drivers insurer I was told that driver is not liable for the damage and I should claim from the fare paying passenger who had opened the door without looking and who conveniently managed to disappear before the police arrived. The whole incident was caught on camera and there are a number of witnesses. My question is, is the insurer right in saying that the cab driver is without fault?, or am I being duped. I have contacted the legal assistance people on my insurance policy but am of the opinion that they won?
  • Speed Cop charged with Speed -pleads Not Guilty 14 Sep 2007 (Forum)
Insp Paul Gee, of Durham Constabulary, said he was carrying out a "risk assessment" for his force's advanced driving school, which trains officers. He was in uniform and driving a marked car when clocked by a mobile camera. At Falkirk Sheriff Court, Sheriff Charlie McNair set trial for 14 January next year. At a technical hearing, defence solicitor Martin Morrow said Insp Gee, 48, of Heddon On The Wall, Northumberland, pleaded not guilty to the speeding offence.
  • A5 Speeding Tickets Revoked 7 May 2007 (Forum)
I've driven this stretch of road, the signage is visible enough and it's had its share of fatalities over the years (Including an off-duty Police Officer a couple of years ago), it has become a lot busier of late and an 83 acre industrial/"leisure" park will contribute to increased traffic levels, remember that Gwynedd Council is a member of the "Safety Partnership" that run the camera vans, if they were a member of my partnership I'd have them out on the Golf Course. Highly embarrasing for them. I followed this story in the press and whilst I applaud the "get-out" as I said the signage is totally visible but playing the devil's advocate here shouldn't these 3000 driver's have noticed the signs or where they driving without seeing......IYKWIM.
  • Speed limit raised M1 J8-J10 roadworks 7 May 2007 (Forum)
The new limit will apply in roadworks to widen the M1 between J8 for Hemel Hempstead and J10 for Luton. Cameras calculate a vehicle's average speed through the roadworks and police said this was to encourage drivers to slow down rather than brake suddenly. The Highways Agency said speed limits to keep drivers and workers safe are regularly reviewed by traffic managers.
  • Garmin Nuvi 310D versus C510D Deluxe! 12 Dec 2006 (Forum)
Apparently the C510D Deluxe is exclusive to Halfords, and is also on further special offer as Free live traffic re-routing is also included! The only other feature I'm looking for is Safety Camera Detection as well (both fixed and mobile ones), but I guess I'll either have to buy a seperate product, or pay more for a combined model. Ideally I don't wish to spend more than £200, which is why the C 510D Deluxe at £199-99 is so appealing!!
  • What Sat-Nav? 31 Aug 2006 (Forum)
So - adding to the risk of her losing her licence and job plus the fact that my licence is clean and has been ever since I got it in 1992 (smug) - I don't want to be taking her points (illegal I know but sometimes necessary). What is the best value Sat-Nav and speed camera locator device? Are there any combined devices or is it a case of having to buy them separately? Hope you can help. Many thanks, Guy (now a Passat TDI Sport Geek I'm afraid.....)
