  • Toyota Corolla Verso (2004 - 2009) - 08 2.2D Detachable towball - what should it cost? 11 Jun 2009 (Forum)
Our Toyota dealer has quoted a fitted price of £500 - which seems steep, but they can get it and fit it inside a week, which may be important. I have two other dealers locally I can try, but is there another option I should consider that won't invalidate the warranty? Much obliged, WdB.
  • Accommodation for Silverstone 19 May 2009 (Forum)
To muddy the waters I'll only come if I can tie it in with meeting a client in London and thus get a two-fer so good transport links are important. I won't have a car and I'm concerned about leaving the circuit after the race with a million other people. I'm open to any advice, can you solve my logistical problem and point me towards a B&B?
  • Ford Mondeo III (2000 - 2007) - Falken Tyres For My Mondeo? 30 Apr 2009 (Forum)
I can get either fitted/balanced for £70 which seems almost too cheap if they are any good. Wet grip is important to me.. also towing traction pulling a boat off a damp slipway. Any thoughts or experiences of the Falkens?? Thanks, David
  • Losing Passports, Credit Cards etc 25 Mar 2009 (Forum)
I have seen it suggested that one should photocopy passport and car documents and make a list of relevant elephone numbers and anything important to one and then include the text and attachments in an e mail which one sends to oneself. Then, so long as one can get internet access it should be possible to retrieve this information aywhere in the World.
  • Decision made - I'm having a shiny new 09-reg... 26 Feb 2009 (Forum)
Diesel again, this time two litre, park assist on the rear, metallic blue Di Cina and don't forget the all important flaps and mats. The only other extra is a windbreak - really just because only CC buyers can have one. I know sales are down, but there must be others in the Backroom who are having a new car.
  • Nissan Primera IV p12 (2002 - 2006) - Tyre Choice - 16" 16 Dec 2008 (Forum)
Michelin website suggests Energy Saver in H or V speed or Primacy HP in V speed. All are 92 Load Index, so no difference here. Which is a better tyre to choose? Safety is important - roadholding and braking performance, also ride quality. ATS suggested the H rating, on offer at 25% off until 31/12, but the car did come with V rated tyres. Now I will never drive at 130mph, even if I do ever visit Germany again, so is this a relevant consideration?
  • Honda CR-V III (2007 - ) - Poor projector headlight performance 9 Dec 2008 (Forum)
I drive in a rural area so the headlights are very important at this time of year. On main beam they are fine but on dipped beam very poor and this is using the projector part of the headlight. I don't want to install anything which is either illegal or will cause glare for oncoming drivers.
  • Ford Ka (2008 - ) - HJ new Ka road test 1 Nov 2008 (Forum)
The fact that while the Fiat 500 offers two different sunroofs, there is no sunroof available on the Ka - and more surprisingly, it seems no sunroof will be available on the Fiesta either - unless I missed something. 3.The words "8 year no perforation body warranty" at the bottom of the price/specifications page. That is the really important bit!
  • Mitsubishi - Any more ideas on these faults? 25 Aug 2008 (Forum)
A friend who is going to look over it next week hthinks it's a possibility the car has had a front-end shunt (he hasn't looked at it yet,so it's just a thought)as also suggested we check it is not an import .I couldn'y see any sign of a respray, though at the time i wasn't looking for that. Any more ideas for when we go to look at it again??
  • Castrol Edge HTHS Viscosity, mPa?s @ 150ºC ??? 10 Aug 2008 (Forum)
The most common test here is ASTM D 4683, which simulates the conditions found in an engine's crankshaft and connecting rod bearings, as well as other narrow regions. This measurement has important implications for such factors as engine fuel economy, valvetrain wear and bearing protection." Source http://tinyurl.com/5zxtwz
  • Toyota - Liteace 94 2.0 not changing gears 13 Jun 2008 (Forum)
hi i hope someone can help me? We bought a import liteace, it ran ok till we got home then over heated, so we were told it needed a new head. We had it changed, it went ok, then over heated again. It had a hole in the rad so we had it changed, but they towed it back.
  • Looking for a New MPV, advice needed 29 Jan 2008 (Forum)
I'm looking to replace my car (most likely with something maybe one year old, at auction) and the following things are important to me: -speedometer and gauges in front of the driver, as opposed to in the centre console (rules out the Picasso) -good fuel economy, ideally a better economy than my 1.9 dTi scenic.... I expect this to be diesel... but would consider a good petrol -i just need a 4 seater, but would consider a 7 seater if it meets the above two points.

  • Nissan Almera (2000 - 2006) - 00 1.5 EML has come on but running o.k. 26 Nov 2007 (Forum)
Now it's running perfectly well, just with the engine light on all the time. I just wanted to know, how important is the sensor in the grand scheme of things ? The engine's running normal, so is it just one of those things I can get sorted at the next service interval ?? Cheers
  • Speed of cars approaching 29 Oct 2007 (Forum)
I have also noticed that in many cases the driver appears to be either in "tunnel vision" mode concentrating on the "Give Way" lines, or sometimes even looking to their left to see what is happening on the major road. This is not the direction which seems most important to me - it also does not seem logical. Any thoughts from you knowledgeable BackRoomers? I just hope I do not get T-boned by one of these morons! Regards Paul
  • Suggestions for 'sports' car? 10 May 2007 (Forum)
My budget would be between £9,000 and £11,000 (after selling the Volvo). At first I thought about a Honda S2000, but a quick look at Autotrader showed only a few imports from Japan and 2000 registered models (I'd prefer the new car to be 4 years old max.) Never been keen on BMW's, a Lotus Elise and MX-5 are too small, so I'm struggling really. Does anyone have any suggestions?
  • MOT test conundrum 18 Apr 2007 (Forum)
This has come up because of the revelation in another thread that you can check your cars MOT history on the VOSA website. It's not at all important, but I just can't get my head around it. I bought my car in February. At that time it had a private plate, so was re-registered by the dealers. The MOT history lists the old and new registrations, stating that it was transferred on 16/02/07.
  • Mitsubishi RVR 26 Feb 2007 (Forum)
Saw a car out in the High St today it was a Mitsubishi RVR. Never seen one before. I am assuming it is one of these grey-imports versions of a car we don't normally get over here. It looked quite "interesting". Like a space-wagon witha butch body-kit and some extra ground clearance. I am assuming from the styling it has some kind of 4x4 system, or is it just a spacewagon in hiking kit.
  • secondhand vans 19 Oct 2006 (Forum)
Main considerations are £2000 or considerably less, cheap & easy to maintain, good fuel economy especially on small hilly country roads, but also having the ability for a bit of speed on motorway runs. Cosmetic condition of no importance but essential that it has been rigorously maintained and that the model has a reputation for a long and trouble free life. Although the van needs to be bought in the U.K. (for reasons too complex to go into here), it will spend much of its life in Italy where we have bought a house but will be required to go to U.K. once or twice a year.
