ford fiesta - fixed penalty not appearing on system 14 Oct 2014 (Forum)
Around 3 Weeks ago I was stopped by the police, it turns unbeknownst to me the insurance had run out on my vehicle. Its due to a chain of regrettable events, my insurance company had contacted me to talk about a renewal, however I had been at work at the time and asked them to call back, they never did. -

Sogefi Filtration UK is to close its automotive filter factory at Glaisdale Drive this year. Operations will be gradually run down, said manager David Kelly. The company, which makes 11 million filters a year for vehicle engines, is now Italian-owned. Production will be transferred to plants in South Wales, France and Italy. -
Peugeot 407 diesel 2.0 - Just bought 2H diesel -- thick white smoke 6 May 2014 (Forum)
I turned it off after a few seconds as my kids were in the car. Phoned dealer, who told me that this was common with diesels, and to run it for a few minutes. I was sceptical, but did so anyway. Continued to pour thick white smoke out of the exhaust for several minutes. Today, the same thing happened. I phoned him again. -
n/a - Parking charge notice 22 Nov 2013 (Forum)
She had been in the space for a couple of minutes while visiting the bank with a family member she had collected from a care home to visit the bank. Is it normal for a council to use a private parking company to run their car park? Also the council are claiming it is a private car park because it is owned by them, surely that makes it a public car park and not private? Is it worth appealing to the parking company as a fine of £85 seems excessive for parking in a free parking space, just because she didn't obtain a free ticket. -
Parking Charge Notice outside a Hospital 21 Aug 2013 (Forum)
Back in June this friend took me to A&E for a head injury, she parked in a private cark park between two council car parks. She paid the £1/hour charge. She realised that the ticket was running out & went to purchase another ticket. She arrived within the 5 minute grace period to find a que and proceeded to que. While she was queing her car was ticketed. She approached the operative and questioned him, but he drove away without answering her. -
Volkswagen Golf GT 2.0tdi 4motion - Problem showing no error codes 18 Jun 2013 (Forum)
My solution, turn off the engine and on again which 80% of the time fixes the problem. Today, I had some errands to run and made about 4 stops, I had to turn the car off and on again 3/4 times due to this problem. What my mechanic done so far; - New EGR system - Turbo cleaning - Brake/acceleration pad sensor - Air-flow meter - Hours calibrating the computer. -
Vauxhall Vectra B - Problem with an 0340 error on a Vectra 7 May 2013 (Forum)
After this 0355 disappeared but 0340 stayed on more or less permanently i.e. once in a while EMU light would go out and car would run perfect. Tried three different Camshaft Sensors including after market but ended up with genuine GM/Siemens. EMU light still on with 0340 (camshaft sensor) error. By this time starting to think EMU knackered, common fault on this model at this age/mileage as it's bolted to side of engine. -
Independents vs main dealers, round 48 4 Jan 2013 (Forum)
“Programs on your home computer have software updates, so people think their car needs updated software to run at its best even if it is a bit of a fallacy — they don’t do very much. But we can’t get that software, no matter how much we offer to pay for it, so our customers are going elsewhere.” Stuart James, of the Retail Motor Industry Federation, expects other manufacturers to follow suit. -
peugeot 107 - how much to haggle for <1 year old city car 16 Nov 2012 (Forum)
has pretty much sold himself on either the current 2012 face peugeot 107 or citroen c1 (he likes their looks, likes the running costs as well as the insurance quotes - just a little bit over 1000£ doesnt seem bad for a new guy driver). doesnt want to spend 2000+ more on things like vw up as he doesnt think it is worth it. -
ford - Courtesy car when vehicle seized? 30 Oct 2012 (Forum)
Need some advice please - sadly a week ago the other half was involved in a car accident involving a pedestrian. A young man attempted to cross a dual carriageway, running into the side of the car and, long story short, he is in a bad way in hospital. It appears that he may have been drinking, but that is really besides the point. It has been a terrible time for all involved but, much as I hate to even think about practicalities, we are now facing a real problem as the police have seized the car. -
Nissan Patrol GR SE (1998) 2.8Td - Warm start problems on a Diesel Turbo 3 Aug 2012 (Forum)
A Bosch Agent/diesel specialist, my local garage, and two different AA recovery mechanics have all remarked in what good condition the car and motor is and how nice it runs. The faults are intermittent and cannot be diagnosed even by a diesel turbo specialist (Bosch Agent), as the car is too old to have reliable electronic data for the diagnostics hook-up. However I have to keep calling out the AA to help me start. -
Vauxhall Vectra SRI - 1.8 Vectra C SRI Stuttering and Rough at Idle 16 Jul 2012 (Forum)
I bought my 53 (2004) plate Vectra 1.8 SRI in April (2012) and all seemed to be ok until i started to notice that when i try and pull away from a busy junction there is a slight hesitation until you get to approx 2-3k revs and then it takes off. i took the car to VXL who did a diagnostics test and it showed a error "Fuel Trim Misfire Bank 1", they said that it could be a number of things (being MAF Sensor, Coil Pack, Air leak, Injectors etc) but said to try cleaning the throttle body 1st and see what happens, so i buy some Wynn's Carb cleaner and gave it a good clean up, no change so bought a new MAF Sensor, again no change so decided i could live with the problem for now as i try not to boot it unless i have to - now after about 2-3wks after changing the MAF the car is running really rough at idle and when driving at a set speed the car randomly slows up and the shoots forward (feels really strange!) and basically here i am, i have know idea where i should be going from here and need some advice, how can you check for air leaks and are there particular pipes that are more prone to leaks than others? -
All - I've started so I'll stop 20 Mar 2012 (Forum)
Other methods use a primed cylinder to recieve a squirt of fuel and spark and it is enough to fling the motor over and then start and continue running - I think Mazda have this system. Or so I have read. Please feel free to add to my knowledge. Plainly a system that does not encourage extra wear on components is the better option but of course with that comes more complexity. -
Ford Mondeo III (2000 - 2007) - 02 2.0 flashing glow light - MAF Sensor 4 Feb 2012 (Forum)
So I can only assume that the MAF is a secondary issue. I then replaced the EGR as the value on the old one looked knackered. The car runs better which makes sense but the glow light issue came back within 1/2 an hour. In the short term I can just disconnect the MAF sensor but I would really like to get to the bottom of this so any suggestions you can offer would be welcome. -
Mazda 6 - DCS and ECU Light On, EGR Valve problem, then big 24 Dec 2011 (Forum)
I have read on some of the forum about the DPF problem. Could it be the same problem? Shall I remove the DPF or get it regen when the engine is up and running? Could the DPF blockage become too severe and damage the brand new engine again while I tried to get it regen? I am so worry and I have left in a position there is no returns on the repairing as I have already spent thousands ££ in it. -
Pug 306 to 307 - Car upgrade, have I made a mistake? 11 Dec 2011 (Forum)
I have a 306 2.0 HDI which was my first peugeot after wanting one for ages. about 9 months after purchase a wire from the fuel relay died, there was no "actual fault" per se, but apparently peugeot sometimes use cheap wire which then corrodes. I managed to run a new wire that from the relay plug to the engine fusebox and since then the car has been a nice drive with just normal maintenance being needed. Then prior to the MOT in september the brake light wouldnt go off completely and again it was a dead wire as it stayed the same with both the brake fluid plug and hand brake plug removed. -
Renault Megane - Car not as ordered 24 Oct 2011 (Forum)
The car is no good to us the way it is due to a medical condition of my father plus the fact I can't afford to run a diesel car that returns less mpg than most petrol models of comparable size I.e. Focus, auris etc. My question to the legally knowledgeable on here is this, what can I do about a car that is not as ordered. -
VW Golf MK4 130TDI - Air leak when accelerating + grey exhaust smoke 13 Aug 2011 (Forum)
On the off-side of the engine compartment a large, squarish plastic tube runs from the front low down, up and over the cam belt housing terminating in a rubber hose/alloy tube. This then connects in to a large diameter alloy housing on top rear of the engine. -
Citroen Berlingo Multispace - Engine misfire, Lots of black smoke 3 Aug 2011 (Forum)
History: Cam belt came off due to idler gear failure, camshaft broke in three places. Up to this event it was running perfectly but with a strange 'humming' noise (obviously the idler on the way out). Sourced a complete engine from a 01 206 accident damaged, breakers promised the engine ran fine!(did I see tears in his eyes?) -
Not sure what to do ... accident waiting to happen 24 May 2011 (Forum)
There is often a vehicle parked on the outside of the bend opposite a high brick wall. Oncoming vehicles are leaving a large housing estate, usually on the school run. They cut the corner at speeds in excess of 30mph - rather than pulling in behind the parked car and checking that the road is clear before proceeding. In the last year I have had to make three emergency stops and narrowly avoided another head on collision when the car swerved inwards at the last minute when I sounded my horn.
