Earlier in 2012 I purchased a Nissan Patrol GE SE 4x4 (1998), for £3K with just 74K Miles, for farm and forestry work. It has been serviced and MOT'd. It appears to be lacking power in low revs which has been diagnosed as a possible Actuator issue (also called tail-gate?), a part I have not managed to source.
It has now also developed a fault with starting problems when the motor is WARM. (Cold starts are fine). Internet Forums suggest that the Nissan Patrol GE does suffer from WARM start problems, and the solution is to fit a new 'Cover Plate (=Advance Plate') and O-ring on the injector. Car mechanics who checked the car disagree. A Bosch Agent/diesel specialist, my local garage, and two different AA recovery mechanics have all remarked in what good condition the car and motor is and how nice it runs. The faults are intermittent and cannot be diagnosed even by a diesel turbo specialist (Bosch Agent), as the car is too old to have reliable electronic data for the diagnostics hook-up. However I have to keep calling out the AA to help me start. The battery has been tested by 3 different mechanics and is fine.
Once the motor is properly cooled down it starts fine...providing I haven't emptied the battery by then, trying to start! I wonder how much money I have to throw at this only for mechanics to tell me they can't find anything wrong.
Two questions: 1. Can somebody recommend a Diesel Turbo parts specialist for the parts I may or may not need? (My local Nissan dealer is not helpful, to say it politely)
2. Any ideas/suggestions about the WARM start problems?
Thank you very much
