  • Citroen Saxo - 2003 Saxo 1.5D does not want to budge. Part 2 1 Apr 2011 (Forum)
See: http://img863.imageshack.us/i/imag0024t.jpg and the car seemed to be stable out when idle at 12.50 See: http://img263.imageshack.us/i/imag0023sr.jpg Now that said, we left the car running for a good 50mins, and notice a lot of tiny bubbles going through the pipes, which made the car chase again, and yet still loads of smelly smoke. Turned engine off, waited a few mins, turned key to start after about 10secs it finally started - it sounded like how it did before I used the aerostart.
  • Peugeot 306 - Peugeot 306 1.8Lt DEAD 14 Feb 2011 (Forum)
Then over the cold spell in December for the first time it wouldn't start. It tried to start, wasn't totally dead. We jump started it and I took it for 45 min run along the dual carriageway to charge it. Next day... dead again. I was then forced to leave it and rely on public transport as my other half took our other car away for a good few weeks. When he came back, we did the same thing again.
  • Volkswagen Golf III - Luggage compartment lamp won't work 13 Dec 2010 (Forum)
The wash wipe had leaked (ages ago) from the motor - so maybe it contaminated the switch in the lock ? 7. When trying to run an earth straight from the negative side of the lamp to the car body (missing out the switch in the lock) nothing changes, it still doesn't light up. 8. I also notice that leaving the hatch up doesn't make any warning lamps light on the dash as there isn't one to tell the driver the hatch is open !
  • Volkswagen Golf IV - Golf IV - Engine Temp displayed as Cold 30 Nov 2010 (Forum)
Last weekend I had another look at it, replaced the thermostat again (as they are easy to get hold of) but no change, after a long run the engine is hot but I don't think the radiator is, I could put my hand on it after about 60 - 70 miles driving.  Could it be that there is another sensor in the radiator and for some reason the water is not getting to it?
  • Bye CR-V, hello… 9 Nov 2010 (Forum)
It is very quiet and smooth and the auto box is exceptional. We have a long trip coming up so will be able to give it a good run then.
  • VW Scirocco Mk2 1990 1.8 8v manual with Weber Carb - Random high & low revving engine! 9 Nov 2010 (Forum)
It has only started recently but I've found that i don't need to use the manual choke on first start up.  Even though no choke is being used the car will run fine 99% of the time ie not cut out, stutter, stall etc but when its been driven for around 15 mins or so the engine will start to rev high (2500-3000+) - feels like cruise control! Found that if I pull the choke out it pretty much cuts the revs and feels like the car is coughing - assuming thats due to too much fuel because of the choke being opened.
  • Peugeot 307SW - HDi 110 - AntiPollution Fault - Random Cooling Fan overrun 31 Oct 2010 (Forum)
Technical question... I have as others have had a random fan cutting in and also on shut down that runs and almost drains the battery. Alongside this is the issue of the 'AntiPollution fault and engine light that comes on. History - A year ago after a long blast back from Devon the warning came on.
  • Mazda 6 Annoying Tensioner Noise..done everything! 2 Oct 2010 (Forum)
Hi, my mazda 6 diesel 2005 plate, has been making a noise near the fan belt area, i have seen my self the tensioner shaking badly well anyway.....way back in the winter the belt on the tensioner was just squeaking but after buying a new tensioner which i found out was for the wrong car (i didnt install it) but putting the old tensioner with a new drive belt then i switched the car back on and it started to make a horrible noise which was unbearable i got angry and hit the tensioner whilst the car was running and the noise became BEARABLE!!!..... FAST FORWARD 4 MONTHS.....i then saw another tensioner on ebay which was definitly for this car so i ordered and put it on and hey presto the noise goes away for about 10 days when all of a sudden the noisy tensioner noise is back and this time when i hit the tensioner the noise doesnt go away like last time (damn) So Now i brought a brand spanking new tensioner from Mazda for £288.77 and brought a brand new gates belt for £20 and today after installing it the car is still making a nasty noise...i feel like i have tried everything and the noise is unbearable have i done something wrong installing the tensioner?
  • Nissan Micra (2003) - Misfiring on start up 25 Sep 2010 (Forum)

  • SAAB 9-3 Sportwagon - DPF too regular regeneration 23 Aug 2010 (Forum)
Is this anything to worry about? maybe its just coked up from the previous owner, other than a very rough idle when dead cold it runs and performs well.  The filter must be working as I don't get any smoke even under hard acceleration (unlike my old 306HDi!). Any advice appreciated.  M.
  • MINI One D R50 2005 1.4D - Alternator gets every hot even with ignition off 5 Jul 2010 (Forum)
I noticed the battery casing was very warm and we replaced it today with a brand new Bosch Silver. The car fired immediately and we assumed that was it. He let it run and switched off, and went to go out in it about 20 minutes later -again the car wouldn't start, no ignition lights or anything. On this occasion I noticed a slight electrical burning smell, opened the bonnet and noticed the alternator was very hot - so much so it was hot enough to burn.
  • Audi A3 1.8T - Juddering, bad idle 3 Jul 2010 (Forum)
He has a snap on diagnostic machine which doesnt pick up any problems, neither do I get any warning lights on the dash. I have been trying to fix the problem but I am running out of time, money and patience as it isnt a consistent problem. Not sure if it means anything but it has been worse since I serviced it a week ago, I changed the oil & filter, air filter & spark plugs.
  • I need a new medium family car 13 Jun 2010 (Forum)
I may be able to get a deal on a Toyota via work contacts (bought our other car, a Verso this way), although the Auris is the only thing that fits the bill. Also have a relative who is a Vauxhall mechanic who can keep Luton cars running cheaply. What say you?
  • Ford Fiesta - Ford Fiesta 53 Plate Engine Management Light Codes 11 Apr 2010 (Forum)
As I was worried I immediately got it seen to, the garage I took it to looked at the fault codes and changed a few hoses and it came back with the light off - the very same day it came back on again and I took it back, this time apparently the lambada censor needed changing so this was done.  The car has been running ok for two weeks although when stationary it does shudder every now and then (maybe I'm being paranoid) but today the engine light has come back on.   I managed to get the codes to come up on the trip screen after reading about it on another forum, details below (there does seem to be a lot so maybe I've gone wrong somewhere) can anyone provide any advice as to what seems to be the problem and how I would go about rectifying it!
  • Ford Focus (1998 - 2004) - Suspension Problems Ford Focus. Any Advice pls? 8 Feb 2010 (Forum)
looking for a little bit of independatnt advice. Got myself a 1.6 ford focus zetec X reg. Nothing special just a family run around. 64K genuine mileage just had a full service. At the service they changed the front brakes and the front right shock. (apparently the shock had leaked onto the brake causing unusual brake wear??
  • Ford Focus (1998 - 2004) - 02 1.8 Revs to 3000 rpm then dies off 15 Nov 2009 (Forum)
Maybe worth a mention is the simply dismal fuel consumption...urban driving hardly returns 35 mpg...longer, gentle runs struggle to top 40. The car has also passed through the dreaded DMF saga, but the dealer not only repaired it under warranty, but after a couple of weeks also recalled us to fit a modification to ensure the fault does not return.
  • Ford Focus (1998 - 2004) - 00 1.8 Alternator Problems? 14 Nov 2009 (Forum)
I took it to a garage and got a new one in and everything seemed well, seemed been the right word. I got it home and it run ok like before, the next morning it started up first time as per but 1/2 mile down road i pulled up at a junction and stopped in traffic and the rev needle went straight upto 4k 5k 6k revs to point i had to turn engine off, it did this all the time so i took it back to garage and they had it for day and it come bk on except the inside light when door opens was flickering and all the dash lights flicker barring when i got foot on accelorator, if i put window heaters on it dips the lights n dash, i was told it was a faulty alternator but i took it back n they said its fine but it just pasted mot and now when i press break pedal my front side lights come on, i know thats earth problem but when start now?
  • Peugeot 406 (1999 - 2004) - 04 2.0 HDI Problem after cambelt change 6 Nov 2009 (Forum)
I put this down to me not giving it enough right foot but noticed it again the following day. I was going to take it back to the dealer but that evening on a motorway run it suffered a chronic loss of power - any slight incline it could not maintain speed. I got off the motorway and found it was very feeble up to 2000rpm and then above 2000 it suffered sever juddering.
  • Vauxhall Vectra B facelift (1999 - 2002) - 2001 1.8LS - Intermittent, now constant misfire 31 Oct 2009 (Forum)
After a couple of weeks of happy 4-cylinder motoring - back to 3-cylinders, engine management light on. Left the engine running at tickover for a few minutes, then turned it off & back on again, hey presto back to 4 cylinders! Management light off A couple of days ago, it went back onto 3 cylinders. On previous occasions it ran OK, before dropping onto 3 pots after maybe 5 seconds.
  • Volkswagen Passat (2001 - 2005) - 02 1.9 TDi Alternator belt tension. Manual / auto? 18 Oct 2009 (Forum)
The question I have is does my car have an auto tensioner or should the mechanic have done the ruler trick to check the tension in the belt? I have looked at my car as wasnt here when mechanic done the work and with the engine running it sounds noisier then normal but I am not sure if I am worrying for no reason as my wife says its exactly the same noise as always, I then looked down the engine and it looks like one of the pulleys wobbles but then I know all engines shake and it looks like it is just shaking with the engine.
