Mazda 6 - Idling and low rev torubles 18 Jun 2013 (Forum)
It has service history (not dealer) and all looked good, up until it started stalling for no reason while sat at idle. First thing was to run a full tank of fuel with injector cleaner in as the car had been sat for a while unused. Also replaced the fuel filter. After a google search I've heard of a common fault with the SCV on the fuel pump so I replaced that but no difference. -
Focus C-Max 1.6TDCI 2005 - Engine Management Light - Intermittent @ 70mph+!? 25 Mar 2013 (Forum)
Drove to Manchester at the weekend (from Norwich, a big trip!) and was looking forward to giving it a good run a) to prove all is ok, and b) get it to temperature to burn off all the crap that can build-up when driving too many short journeys. All was totally fine, until I gave it some beans up a hill to reach 70mph, and as the car settled to coast at 75mph, the EML came on with 'Engine Systems Fault'. -
Mazda 6 - 2l petrol Mazda 6 stalling at junctions 11 Mar 2013 (Forum)
I think the key thing here is that the stalling only occurs when the car is moving - the car starts fine, it will idle fine whilst sat on the drive and it will also idle fine once the handbrake is on and the car is stationary at a junction. In all these cases, it's presumably running on the battery. I have noticed that the headlights flicker slightly occasionally when stationary and idling though, although I have noticed this happen in the past when I've not had the stalling problem. -
2009 Ford Mondeo titanium x sport - mixing tyres in suspicious circumstances 27 Feb 2013 (Forum)
I recently purchased a 2009 Ford Mondeo titanium x sport from a local Ford dealer and as part of the deal I asked for the car to have an MOT since it was due to run out in a couple of months. The car was delivered a few days ago and as the handover took place the dealer mentioned that one of the rear tyres had been changed as it was "a bit low". -
Please help me choose a car for a long commute 6 Jan 2013 (Forum)
So I need another seat . This car has been excellent and returns over 50mpg so relatively cheap to run diesel wise. I need a car with a big boot (for the pram and extras) and room in the back for two children plus a car seat. My budget is 8k...for this I've looked at the following: Mondeo 2.0 TDI - Great value for money but the MPG is only mid 40s which would cost around £800 extra per year in fuel. -
Audi a3 2004 - Not another Lemon..... 9 Dec 2012 (Forum)
She decided to purchase it and drove home. Three days later that dreaded engine management light came on!! We had a test run on it today and 2 faults came up twice and there was also one other fault. -Crank shaft sensor -Purge Valve (Possibly 2 may be needed) _Purge canister. We contacted the dealer in hopes that he would do/pay for the repairs, he said he wouldn't pay for the repairs, out of the question but if we wanted to drive it back he would do a refund. -
Fiat Scudo 2.0l JTD 2002 - Turbo failure 25 Nov 2012 (Forum)
I wasnt to fussed about the oil cooler and p/s pump as they are easily fixed but when the turbo blew i knew i had been duped due to the limited running of the van. Im sure its the bearings that have failed but not 100%. The turbo makes a grating noise and huge plumes of blue/grey smoke from the exhaust. The garage in question has told me to f##k off and they dont care. -
2005 Renault Grand Espace 3.0 dCi - Renault Grand Espace Overheating 14 Nov 2012 (Forum)
i pulled over and loosened the radiator cap. That seemed to release pressure in the system and then magically the car woudl run fine again on the motorway. I brought the car into the dealer and asked them to perform a pressure test. The car failed and they said the 'Engine is Broke'. The hard part is i am in Luxembourg and English is not prevelant and i cannot seem to get a good explanation. -
1986 Daihatsu Skywing ( Like 3-cyl Charade) - Got some dirt in my engine 17 Sep 2012 (Forum)
I'm assuming that, while 30% 2-stroke is probably a relatively poor lubricant, it won't be too damaging in a non-firing engine. 30% is still a high oil % compared to a typical 2-stroke engine running at, what, 2-5 % ? Seals are presumably made to withstand some petrol contamination of the oil, (though of course not that much) and they won't be exposed for long or at very high temperature. -
Toyota Avensis 1999 (V plate) - Toyota Avensis Starting problems 27 Aug 2012 (Forum)
Hi I have a problem with a 1999 Avensis (on a V plate). Been running fine since I bought it a year ago but over the past few weeks I have noticed a problem in starting it. Occasionally turn the key fully on and nothing happens apart from a 'ticking' sound (more recently identified as a sort of electrical short sound) inside the cab or a slight turn of the starter motor again with this ticking noise. -
Ford Mondeo - Any other large petrol car suggestions 24 Aug 2012 (Forum)
It is still on the original clutch and exhaust and other than the usual tyres, brake parts, etc not too much has gone wrong. Biggest repair was a fuel pump. I bought it at 3 years old. So while it is still running and just got through it's MOT with only a tyre and a drop link needed I can't help thinking it's on borrowed time. So partly because it's got to need more repairs going forward and partly jusy because it's scruffy and I can afford to replace it without finance next year I've started thinking what next? -
Are Wood Pigeons and Rabbits - lack road awareness 24 Jun 2012 (Forum)
The same goes for bunny rabbits, in the evening they stand on the road looking in one direction then just as you get closer to them they suddenly decide to run right across your side of the road, and what's more it's usually when there is no other traffic around apart from the one car/vehicle you happen to be driving. Now I seemed to have developed some kind of built-in Wood Pigeon and Rabbit radar that seems to go off as soon as I'm within 1/4 mile or so of any type of wildlife that's on the road ahead of me If I drive any slower I'll have the Mimsers flashing their lights at me and offering me free cups of caffeinated tea to drink to hurry me up as they slowly pass by ! -
Vauxhall Vivaro - vivaro maf sensor 13 Mar 2012 (Forum)
Hi all i have a 2006 vauxhall vivaro 1.9 dti a few months back i had a diagnostics check on it and it came back with a faulty maf sensor so i bought a new one off ebay for £30 i fitted it and it seemed ok but not alot better i had another diagnostics check on it and it came back with three different fault codes to the original code these are as follows P0100-not present (maf sensor) P0400-not present (egr valve) P0113-not prsent (intake air temp sensor) after a bit of research it seems the cheap maf i bought of ebay has a bit of a bad reputation for being of substandard quality so i bought one from a local motor factors for £120 i fitted this cleaned the egr and took the van out for a spin and all seemed to be well the van pulled alot better idle revs didnt drop as they did before no lack of power when cold and the black smoke had dissapeared sorted i thought got back home and ran another diagnostics and annoyingly i got the same 3 fault codes i put this down to my opcom being rubbish as everythimg seemed so much better but this morning a day after fitting the new maf i started the van up and all the probs where back again it runs better than before but still the smoke and the dropping idle revs. The revs drop to nearly 0 when i brake for a junction it dosnt quite cut out but is close to it as soon as i release the brakes the rvs go back to a normal 850? -
Audi A4 Allroad - First Time Buyers help 11 Mar 2012 (Forum)
Must be a automatic tranmission this is a strict requirement 4. Must be easy to drive (for begineers) cheap to run, reliable and not too powerful in order to keep auto insurence prices down. Also needs to be safe for passengers (baby) 5. 20000 EUROS MAX. No more than this as I full expect the car to get banged up and dont want to by an expensive one only to see it destroyed. -
Sale of Goods Act 1979 "warranty" questions 25 Jan 2012 (Forum)
The car has since developed a hot start issue that prevents the car from starting if it's been recently run and the engine is hotter than 60. As soon as engine temperature drops below 60 degrees or so will start first time. We've had this problem diagnosed by a local VW garge ans it's been diagnosed as P3007 (camshaft position sensor signal missing) and P0341 (camshaft position sensor 1 signal improbable) error. -
MINI Cooper - MPG on a Mini Cooper 16 Dec 2011 (Forum)
I also make use of the start-stop in traffic, change up in line with the shift indicator and I don't run the air con or use the cruise control much. I wouldn't say I'm a particularly heavy footed driver. My view is that as the sales contract is one of Utmost Good Faith, the dealer and/or manufacturer failed to disclose something to me that was instrumental in choosing the car that they would have known about. -
VW Golf III 1.8 Driver 1994..e.c ABS - VW Golf III wont start when warm 15 Nov 2011 (Forum)
Cleaned out throttlebody with carb cleaner, cleaned various earth connections, noticed broken wire on two-pin connector on engine block.below flexi pipe, under left hand side of throttlebody, fixed that, re-assembled everything, car started fine, left it running til warm then switched off, wouldnt start again. Aaaargh! So next on my list is the ECU relay,no.30. I have a new one in my hand, but looking at the relay board, position 3 where the manual says it is, and also the guy at local VW dealer confirmed after giving him chassis no..is empty! -
Ford Mondeo MK2 - Mondeo MK2 can feel knocking through brake pedal 1 Sep 2011 (Forum)
1) Both drive shafts have been replaced with new ones (the n/s driveshaft had a knackered cv joint) 2) Both bottom arms have been replaced with new (o/s balljoint had slight play) 3) New discs & pads been fitted I have even tried swapping both front hubs from one of my mates who runs a scrappy to eliminate wheel bearing problems and they seem fine. After doing the above work I've gotta admit the knocking isnt as bad but still noticable.. When I tried braking heavy I didnt notice it.. it seems to be only when braking normally-gently and only at low speed just before stopping.. -
