Editing of IHAQ Vols 212 and 213. 10 Dec 2007 (Forum)
Sorry - your postings were shifted about a bit whilst IHAQ 213 was being built in the shed outside. JBJ's response to Cheddar's camera question has now been tacked onto the thread within 212 and therefore runs logically. I hid the Bank Branch question under the stairs for a while and then took it out, dusted it off and put it into Vol 213 once the paint had dried on it. -
Continental motoring - bliss 29 Aug 2007 (Forum)
Belgium Mons - Charlerois - Namur - Ardennes: Auoroutes, well surfaced, very little traffic Belgian main roads: some rubbish surfaces but generally very smooth, very little traffic Belgian minor roads: mixed bag, very little traffic Luxembourg: didn't travel extensively but what I did experience was very good surfaces and very little traffic. Everywhere: no over-regulation of traffic, no over-signing, no cameras; motorists treated like responsible adults. Iffy surfaces vs BMW M Sport suspension aside, the driving was a joy. I think I'll be back for a second helping come half-term. -
National Speed Limits 31 Jul 2007 (Forum)
Maybe I'm wrong maybe the rules have changed to those in the Highway code. Or is it that speed cameras detect something moving at a certain trigger point regardless of size/type meaning that they can drive at car limits without fear of being caught. Can anyone explain? -
broken roadsprings 25 Jul 2007 (Forum)
Could you imagine selling the thing and the customer drives it 3 feet prior to the front end dropping. the photos from the camera was only £18 so no moaning mind. http://tinyurl.com/22qlrc http://tinyurl.com/25q4z3 (there are no bugs you can open with confidenty) :-) -

Council Raising Speeding Thresholds 8 Mar 2007 (Forum)
First bit of commonsense I have heard from a politician in a long time! As the council are part of the Safety Camera Partnership' it will be interesting to see if the idea comes to fruition. -- Fullchat -
What really REALLY annoys me......! 13 Feb 2007 (Forum)
You're overtaken slowly, very very slowly, by a Honda Civic or a Volvo S40. A few hundred yards down the road you come up to a yellow Gatso camera, you see it and lift imperceptably to get down to 70ish when the pink fluffy dice ahead in the Honda/Volvo slows down abruptly due to some Pavlovian response to about 60 mph, causing you to have to have to brake needlessly, overtake then get overtaken again and so on down the whole pink fluffy dice road...................................makes me maaaad!!!! -
inconsiderate pulling out 14 Jan 2007 (Forum)
Was driving to the office this morning, past the local school. its a 30 and i dont speed through here - the boys in blue like to set up a camera just after. Obviously just dropped the kids off, a old toyota people carrier pulls out right in front of me, dangerously in my opinion, and he/she doenst make much of an effort to get up to speed, causing me to brake , . -
Missing numberplate scam 1 Jan 2007 (Forum)
I've never asked him but the only thing I can think of is that he removes them to prevent being caught on camera from the front. If stopped he could argue that he didn't know it had 'dropped off' and presumably be charged with a lesser offence or even charm the plod into letting him off. Obviously he couldn't use this story if he removed front and rear plates. -
ideas to improve easy motoring 5 Jun 2006 (Forum)
1 How much time is wasted sitting at traffic lights on red, waiting to turn left, with absoloutely nothing going.By allowing movement it will stop pollution and wasting time, it's worked well in the U.S for decades. 2 Traffic lights, for MOST industial sites, turned off at weekend. 3 H.g.v lorries having a disc on their back with approx weight carrying at any one time, so a driver knows his 5ton load, should be able to overtake a 32 ton lorry whilst going up hill, to avoid long tail backs. 4 At scenes of accidents, a camera set up, on the other carriageway to prevent rubber neckers, causing unessary tailbacks, and frequently more collisions. 5 BANNING CARAVANS during day light hours!! -
Traffic Lights A316 Westbound 9 Jan 2006 (Forum)
The lights have small black triangular loudspeaker-like "boxes" mounted above them. Are they sensors or cameras? I know there is virtually no defense against going through a red light - but if one could see they were operational to start with it would help!! Any advice/comments welcome.... -
GPS Antenna location - BMW 18 Nov 2005 (Forum)
I am currently experiencing problems with a new speed camera detector (Micro Road Pilot) unit and would welcome any advice on the best GPS antenna location on a 2002 E46 320d SE, and would also appreciate any info regarding whether this model is fittied with a UV windscreen that could seriously impede the signal to the antenna. -
Brake fluid and bad luck 29 Aug 2005 (Forum)
We were going only 27 mph and the junction was empty so we were lucky enough to cross it in red and stop on the other side. We were towed home and found out that the brakes pump has gone. The next week I got a camera notification for going on red light which was on for 66 seconds. Great! I will pay it and get 3 points on my provo license but how can I complain to the police that a technical brakedown caused all this mess? -
Portsmouth area next 7 days or so 27 Jun 2005 (Forum)
A heavy police presence is in the area focusing on the main 3 roads into the city in preparation for the events that start on Tues 28th. I have just been doen the A2030 towards Southsea and there were 4 police van camera outfits backed up by about a dozen bikes or so. Presume any terrorists wanting to get into the city will also be speeding? Maybe they are using the numberplate recognition to spot any vehicles that are of interest from a security ponit of view, has anyone heard of this being done outside of London before? -
The things we are not told..... 10 Jun 2005 (Forum)
Firstly, as well as knowing which roads you have used, the Government will also know how fast you have travelled throughout the journey. I can forsee a situation where speed cameras will no longer be necessary as the GPS records will show if you have exceeded the speed limit at any stage of every journey you have made. They will have to build a new printing plant to handle all of the NIPs that they will require. -
SWMBO stopped last night 5 Jun 2005 (Forum)
We dont think he would have had time to do a PNC check in the time it took to pull her over in the dark and he didnt take any of her details (name/address etc) or ask her to get into his car to view camera footage. Does that mean she has got away with it ? Would be interested in your thoughts Thanks P -
I have a question Volume 51 24 Aug 2004 (Forum)
She was selected as she has helped with other programmes but purely giving technical advice to the camera crew making sure what they were shooting was following the script. This will be her first, has anyone taken a TV screen test before, or know what the likely scenario is? Would like to be well prepared obviously, to give her a good shot at it. -
New Road Side "Furniture" 1 Jun 2004 (Forum)
I thought that I knew about most sorts of cameras and Trafficmaster sensors but there are 2 further types appearing recently - can anyone say what they are please? The newest is a tall straight pole with no box at the bottom and it has 2 large solar panels, mounted below the top, one each side of the pole at about 45 Degs plus it has a very frail looking windwill type fan on it. -
To the people of Aylesbury.... 16 Mar 2004 (Forum)
I know in every place there are people who do not understand roundabouts, but I swear in Aylesbury that absolutely *nobody* understands, and I drive through there twice a day and have done for the last 6 months. 4) You do not get extra credit if when seeing a camera in a 60 limit you instantly brake and go past it at 30. -
ANPR - how small ? 12 Jan 2004 (Forum)
They were pulled by a marked Sierra, but 100 yards upstream of the sierra was a red focus occupied by two large gents in yellow jackets. There was nothing on the back seat of the focus but there was a very small CCTV type camera pointing out of the rear window, and the focus stayed put while the sierra was out pulling people does this mean anpr technology is either small enough to fit in the boot of a focus, or has gone RF ?
