New Road Side "Furniture" - Damp Squib
I thought that I knew about most sorts of cameras and Trafficmaster sensors but there are 2 further types appearing recently - can anyone say what they are please?

The newest is a tall straight pole with no box at the bottom and it has 2 large solar panels, mounted below the top, one each side of the pole at about 45 Degs plus it has a very frail looking windwill type fan on it. This is presumably to give it power when there is no sun.

The older type is a similar pole but with an 18 in square and 2 foot high box at the base and a single solar panel mounted on the top.

Both these are only on A roads so far as I have seen and of the newer type there are 2 within 400 yards on the road from the Ram Jam on the A1 thru to Oakham.

Can't be certain, but I think I read somewhere that these are an environmentally friendly way of providing power for street lighting.

Dont confuse these with Met Office weather stations.

Mystery Solved. When I first went past the things were incomplete. They are now working as solar and wind powered, radar sensed speed warnings, saying'Slow Down', on both approaches to a fairly dangerous bend

A bit off topic, but whilst on business in the US a while back, I saw road sings on one of the Interstates that said something like "Warning water on road during rain".

if they have radar-sensors, then presumably they only warn if the driver hasn't slowed enough?

If someone has forgotten to turn the wheel, a warning would be a very good idea, except that it'd probably be too late :(

Perhaps if so many drivers didn't show that they need nannying....

How long before, in adition to Slow Down,

A lot of bends have "Slow Down" warnings when it is not necessary. On the other hand, there a lot of bends that can catch you out if you don't slow down. I generally make my own judgement regardless of whether there is a warning or not.

I wonder what the criteria are for deciding whether any particular bend is given a "Slow Down" warning?
