  • Nissan Micra K12 - Rough idle choke issue? 30 Jul 2014 (Forum)
Occasionally the engine will stall. However, this is the only time the engine does this. Other than this it runs perfectly and never misses a beat. It starts well regardless of weather, never gets hot in traffic, the MPG's are good (about 50-52) etc. In my mind, I would put this down as some sort of choke issue?
  • vauxhall signum 2.2 2005 - fires up but wont start unless unplug fuel sensors 10 Jul 2014 (Forum)
(maf has now been replaced) My husband uplugged both fuels sensors, then car starts and after few revs ticks over fine, but still doesnt run properly. It will cut out. After googling found out that vauxhall had recall on fuel pressure regulator, so got it booked into vauxhall. get call today they said they changed fuel sensor and it makes no difference, so they put old ones back on (odd as they were on recall)   They told me they thought it was a timing issue, and ask for permission to do investigation at £95+vat an hour!!
  • What used car? 4 May 2014 (Forum)
Budget is capped at about £1,000, and I want something that's going to be a bit of fun to make my dirve down Cornish country lanes more interesting. And that's where I run out of ideas. So far, I've had a 1.25 Fiesta (bombed out on its MOT due to rust), a 1.4 206 (blowout on the M5 shot the brakes all to hell) and my current 1.0 Picanto, which is great, but the missus loves it far more than I do, so she gets that one.
  • Car buying advice 13 Apr 2014 (Forum)
It may also occasionally have to pull a trailer - although if this isn't possible it wouldn't be the end of the world I'm looking for something reliable, reasonably cheap to run, and I think to meet size requirements would probably be an estate, but would consider large hatchbacks. With this in mind I've been looking at cars, and am thinking along the lines of 1.7 CDTi Diesel Astra Estate (like this http://goo.gl/GUfpxj) 1.6 or 1.8 CDTi Diesel Focus Estate Both of these cars with my budget are available from approximatly 2009 with 100,000 to 120,000 miles.
  • Focus 1.8 TDCi - 2002 Focus 1.8 TDCi poor starting 22 Feb 2014 (Forum)
Usually, unless it is very cold (i.e. below freezing) the car initially seems to start fine, runs for 2 or 3 seconds, and then stalls. Could this mean it is not getting enough fuel? When it is very cold on the first crank it usually just turns over, coughs and never quite catches. I've tried using the glow plugs for three attempts of ten seconds apiece, and whilst this appears to improve things, it will occasionally still stall.
  • Ford Fiesta 1.3 Petrol (x-reg) - Leaking Coolant behind engine 25 Jan 2014 (Forum)
It also squirts out when I take the coolant reservoir cap off, even when the engine isn't running.  Does anyone know what this could be? I also have issues with my heating, where the blowers only seem to pump out hot air, even when set to cold.  Could this be a related issue or is it completely seperate?
  • vauxhall vectra 2005 2.2 petrol - fuel problem (i think) 13 Jan 2014 (Forum)
There are not lights on the dash but i did put the car of a fault reader and it came up with air flow meter so i had it changed and codes  cleared and re scanned and no fault codes but still have the same problem, I have also changed the spark plugs and taken the throttle body off and cleaned but nothing still the same. I have run out of ideas and can only think it is a fuel problem. Can anyone please help me  many thanks matt
  • any - car transporters 13 Oct 2013 (Forum)
He would describe how he often had one of these half way up the ramp with the engine screaming but remain stationary. His method afterwards was to take a run at it and hope for the best. Gordon can tell much more than myself but he described how they had a pole to use when loading which was basically to ensure they were within the heights of bridges across the road.
  • Renault Clio II 1.2 16V - Renault Clio 1.2 16V misfire 3 Aug 2013 (Forum)
I have a 2002 3dr Renault Clio that has a strange misfire. It can run normal, altough a bit lumpy, but when left on tick over the engine light comes on and it starts to misfire really badly. I have put my OBD2 scanner on it and got the following results at different times: P0314 Single Cylinder Misfire (Cylinder not Specified) P0300 Random/Multiple cylinder misfire Detected I have replaced the following parts trying to solve this: The top wiring loom all 4 injectors Throttle body TDC Sensor Coil pack, with leads twice one was a brand new one Plugs twice NGK and now Champion plugs from Renault   After all this the problem still exsist, I went for a 4 mile round drive today, on the 1st 2 miles it was great, altough still a little lumpy, but after it had been stopped, restarted and had ticked over for a minute or two the engine light started flashing and it was misfiring really badly all the way home!!
  • Replacing 2002 Mondeo - Still Looking 24 Jun 2013 (Forum)
Although I'm a low mileage driver 7-8k per year the mix includes a regular 19 miles each way commute. The 19 is a  7 mile urban followed by 12 mile fast motorway run.   So as the engine would be warm when I hit the  motorway I'm hoping that would be enough to avoid DFF issues.  I test drove a 2.0 TDCi.  At   £12300 it is as cheap as any petrol examples I've seen.
  • Vauxhall Zafira - Zafira Won't Start - Help! 29 May 2013 (Forum)
I own a Vauxhall Zafira 2.0dti 2001 Elegance It was all running fine until yesterday when someone pulled out of a side road and cut me up. I had to emergency stop (not hard) and stalled it. When I went to restart the car it wouldn't go. It's turning over nice and quickly but just not catching.
  • Vectra Crank sensor error 9 May 2013 (Forum)
So what would cause the crack sensor to log a fault (also bearing in mind the cough symptom) Would the timing belt jumping a tooth cause it?? and if so would the car appear to continue to run normally with the belt out ? Is this an early indicator that my tensioner pulley is on the way out? (Timing belt etc replaced ~25k miles ago.) Or something completely different?? Car is a 98R Vectra GLS 1.8 16v Ecotec(with Aircon) Any ideas gratefully received.
  • Chrysler Voyager - Yet another Chrysler SKIM issue? 26 Feb 2013 (Forum)
hi guys i have a 2000, 3.3l petrol auto Voyager. Recently the battery drained and I had to jump start the car, but wasn't able to run the car long enough for a decent charge, so later that day I removed the battery and put it on charge. My little charger took three days to charge it fully. When I put the battery back in, I noticed that the car still wasn't starting.

Waiting for Puegeot Assist breakdown to come out to me. I have had the car 17months, it has broken down 4 times, it is barely run it (22000 miles) and has never been reliable. Apart from selling it quickly after this next repair, any suggestions?   Guy
  • VW T4 Caravelle - Faulty engine rebuild disaster - any comeback? 21 Nov 2012 (Forum)
Rang up the garage who said it was maybe a glow plug issue, or relay. Booked it into a local garage who took over a month to finally get it running ok. When I collected it the local garage said the timing was completely out and it had blown the ecu and cooked the glow plugs. The bill for their work came to £1200. Do you think I stand a chance of getting compensation from the rebuild garage by going back to them and stating they got the timing wrong which caused the starting issue?
  • Nissan Almera (2000 - 2006) - Loosing power, noisy engine 21 Oct 2012 (Forum)
When in fifth gear i put my foot to the floor and have no power, i drop down gears and still no power. the engine is still running and hasn't cut out but makes a horrible noise and sounds like a tractor. i have to stop and when i do i get this really strong smell of burning. once i have stopped for 10 mins or so and the engine cools a bit i can continue my journey.
  • range rover 2.5 - ebay milage discrepancy 4 Oct 2012 (Forum)
hi i have purchased a range rover from ebay, from what i believed to be a reputable 4x4 specialist when i checked the name detailed, an orginisation that prided itself on being a family run buisness specialising in 4x4 vehicles, the name of the specialist was detailed as the seller. It appears as though this was not the dealer ebay site just one of its employees whom can be contacted through the dealer and has set up the ebay site to sell on some stock for them, negating there responsibilities, when i arrived to pick up the car from the showroom i was directed to there garage as the car was being made ready, upon initial inspection there were a few minor descrepancies and the mechanic reduced the price to compansate and asked me to follow him back to the showroom in the car giving me the opputunity to test drive it, The car drove ok and upon arrival at the showroom, handed over cash for the car which i recieved a hand written reciept by the mechanic(should have realised at this point but was exited to get my new purchase back home). initialy the car drove well but after about 20 miles decided to split the radiator hose, luckily almost next to a garage so pulled in and got them to look at the vehicle.
  • 15,000 miles with an Octavia estate 4 Sep 2012 (Forum)
Having failed to find time to do a 10,000-mile running report, here we are at 15,000 miles in 16 months.  Not much to report, which is of course good news. Reason for buying: my first Octavia vRS (a diesel manual) was the result of realising that this was £7,000 cheaper than an A4 Avant with the same engine, with negligible loss of build quality.

  • All makes - Thoughts on small automatics 11 Jul 2012 (Forum)
I run a VW Golf Mk6 1.4 tsi dsg auto, which gives good performance, 45 – 50 mpg, & you would think would be ideal for me, and in many ways it is good. The problem lies in it’s dsg auto, which I’ve been struggling with for the two years I’ve had the car.
