Vauxhall Astra 1.4 cooling warning light 28 Jul 2007 (Forum)
A warning light which looks like a radiator with a fan on it has come on. The air con does not work. The engine cooling fan does not cut in when I let the engine idle until the temp gauge goes into the red. My local Vauxhall garage ran a diagnostic test, they said the aircon sensor or switch needed replacing. -
Aircon specialist in the North-West? 15 Apr 2007 (Forum)
Hi, I have a mk5 VW Golf and the temperature is no where near as cold as it used to be when the air con is on. temperature reading from the centre vent has been measured at 16C. It is trying (ambient is about 25C today) but getting no where near as low as it used to be. Can anyone recommend a decent aircon leak specialist/regasser in the Manchester area (preferably mobile) for my car please? -
No more a Corsa-Driver 5 Aug 2006 (Forum)
Am now the proud owner of a 53 plate SEAT Ibiza 1.2 3-cyl and its fantastic- lots more toys and nicer to drive even though its a cylinder down on the Corsa. I have one question though- how much power should air-con sap? I only ask because its very nippy with it off, but as soon as its on it goes really sluggish. Ben -
Showroom to breakers, which route? 29 Oct 2005 (Forum)
I have noticed that if maintained correctly. French cars will approach the end of their lives with possibly the air con not working, possibly ABS not working then a final huge bill for a heater matrix as a death blow. Possibly a head gasket or two somewhere in this journey. A Rover with a K series (as we all know) will usually be killed of via the head gasket route. -
Catalytic converter problem? 1.6 Focus 9 Sep 2005 (Forum)
My 2003 1.6 Focus had a "major" service at 20600 miles last week. 3 days later, on starting the engine, the cabin was filled with the smell of rotten eggs. Windows have been down, air con on and a 200 mile long journey completed but still it smells inside. New tankful of BP (but not Ultimate) has gone in now. Standing outside car with engine running - no smell from exhaust. I would be very grateful if anybody can throw any light on this problem. -

Leganza (98)2.0 cdx 19 Nov 2002 (Forum)
the car has been looked at by a daewoo garage.the air con unit has 'lost its earth'? it can be temporarily re-earthed but this may not last very long.upon the garage trying to re-earth the unit it over-heated and this is a potential fire hazard and it was returned to its former broken state.we are awaiting the said daewoo garage on getting back to us after they have spoken to their technical and parts dept at their haed office re whether this has been heard of before etc.the unit cannot be permanently re-earthed and a new unit may have to be bought at the cost of £800.is this the case? -
SEAT Alhambra - Rejecting a vehicle SOGA refund 5 Aug 2014 (Forum)
I had already had a vagcom run on it and it came up as boost control fault and code, (but to my knowledge no machine can narrow this down to one fault please correct me if I'm wrong but it requires exploration to find out what is causing the boost control fault not just changing the solenoid). He told me he would get the air con and dvd player fixed while it was in with him. He delivered the vehicle back to me on Wednesday the week later. Upon driving to work the next day I noticed the power fault again on a steep hill ( no engine lights but losing power almost like limp mode) also the air conditioning hasn't been fixed and neither has the dvd player. -
"Never again" jobs 23 Sep 2006 (Forum)
Blanking plug for crank timing pin hole fell out of the socket when I removed it and fell down between the air-con pump bracket and the side of the block. Had to remove and carefully support the air-con pump while removing the mounting bracket to get the plug back. Water pump gasket came off the block only after much careful scraping, and then in hundreds of tiny, well baked pieces. -
Why is the climate control in my BMW 120i inadequate? 27 Apr 2013 (Ask HJ)
I bought a BMW 120i convertible with climate control. The 28 degrees centigrade max of the BMW is puny - no good at all for winter sun. Neither does it... -
Citroen Xsara (1997 - 2004) - 98 1.8 No heat in a climate control model 30 Jan 2010 (Forum)
Hi, Our xsara is the 1.8 16v exclusive model which has air con and climate control (not the digital version though), we no longer get heat from the matrix yet the pipes are hot on both sides of it. I downloaded a BSI technical manual that explains the temperature is controlled by mixing the hot air from the heater matrix and the cold air from the condenser to get the required temp. -
Air conditioned classic 23 Jul 2003 (Forum)
After catching a bit of deals on wheels that featured the rover p6 3500s they mentioned that the car was available with air con. I could do with a comfortable cruising car with aircon/climate control. With expected low mileage a tax exempt classic is the cheapest option for having another car. I had previously thought something modern that would do 45+ mpg might work out cheaper but depreciation would probably wipe out any savings along with higher parts prices. 2k cars that were that economical would probably lose the money in parts costs. -
Ford Focus - Ford Focus Window Stuck 14 Aug 2017 (Forum)
Hi All, I have recently bought a 2001 1.6 Ford Focus and thanks to the advice on this site I have managed to fix the air con (resister pack) the speedo (speed sensor) and given it a basic service. One of the last issues I have is the passenger electric window will not operate from either driver or passenger side switch, no noise, movement, nothing. -
VW Golf V11 TSI - Stop start failure 24 Jan 2016 (Forum)
But it does not kick in at all until the outside temperature rises above freezing, the local dealer questioned if the air con was on which is a bit silly in freezing weather. Does this mean that to all intents and purposes the stopstart is reliant on the temperature being above freezing or is there another reason for this failure, if it only works in "ideal conditions" there is not a lot of point to it, searching the internet reveals this is a problem does it apply to all makes stop start systems or just VAG group. -
fiat 500 twinair - radiator leaks 10 Apr 2014 (Forum)
the reservoir was empty. the garage replaced the heat exchanger at the back of the dashboard. This had been replaced last year when the air con failed and a leak could not be found. The whole system was replaced to repair the aircon. Since the fix I have done a single motorway journey of 400 miles and the level of liguid in the radiator reservior has dropped from max to min with a drip under the wheel arch. -
Japanase or Merc, in the USA 30 Aug 2013 (Forum)
Want to buy something reliable, older (I think pre 1976 avoids need for 'smog check' emissions certificate) so maybe pre 1997 with a little style, reasonable grunt, definitely needs air con. Cars seem very expensive compared to the UK but budget is $8-10k. My assumption is I am looking at gasoline. Anyone got any recommendations? -

Vauxhall Astra G Petrol (1998 - 2004) - 00 1.6 Radiator Help 30 Sep 2009 (Forum)
Hi I have an Astra 1.6v year 2000 that I need to put in a new radiator. The car does have air con but I think I dont need to take that part out if I am right as it is only the water rad that has a leak. If anyone can tell me if this would be fairly easy and a bit of help how to do it I would appreciate it, I am quite good at doing things to my car but just want to know if this would be quite easy or not.
