One Third of Used Cars Break Down in 1st Year 5 Nov 2003 (News)
Failures are highest in the first six months, suggesting very strongly that that an impending problem was the reason for sale. 17.1% of 3-5 year old cars suffer a failure in the first 6 months, 23.2% of 6-8 year old cars and 24.1% of cars 9 years old or more. People buying privately can protect themselves against this in two ways: Firstly, have the car inspected for faults before they buy it. -
£850 Vectra at Auction Today 25 Jan 2002 (News)
The cars everyone wants are expensive, of course. But that doesn't prevent others being bargains. It helps. The public wants to buy one to three year old hatchbacks in nice bright colours, so it simply isn’t interested in mega-mile ex-taxis like the otherwise respectable 96N Vectra 1.7TD Envoy in the photo. -

Hyundai takes 5,400 Orders Under Scrappage 22 May 2009 (News)
For many it is an opportunity to buy their first ever new car, and is enormously exciting. Some people look a little embarrassed when they turn up at a showroom with an old car which is literally falling to pieces but we’re happy to take anything as long as it meets the government’s criteria. -

New £2000 diesel scrappage scheme set to be announced 20 Apr 2017 (News)
Any vehicles that don't comply with the Euro 4 (petrol) and Euro 6 (diesel) standards will be required to pay £12.50 on top of the congestion charge. The rules effectively mean that petrol cars over ten years old and diesel cars more than two years old in 2017 will not comply when the scheme is introduced in 2019. The new taxes hope to lower NOx emissions by 50 per cent in 2020, but will bring the cost of driving a non-compliant car in central London to £24 per day. -
Carsite Warns That Waiting For Used Prices to Fall Might Cost You Money 4 Aug 2009 (News)
More than 220,000* 56 plate registered cars could hit the market this September as fleet and leasing companies begin to refresh their customers with new cars. But once these are sold the used market will be starved of cars. Buyers looking for bargains in the three-year-old used car bracket have benefitted from the restricted choice in the nearly-new (one year or less) market with values either appreciating or stabilising. -

Is Drive it Day successful in getting the message across? 28 Apr 2014 (News)
It was heartening seeing so many people out and about, too. Not just us on our run, nor the many cars that filed into Gaydon, but those who appeared to be just out and about pottering in their MGs, Jaguars, Triumphs, MGs and Fords. So, all's well in the world, and the classic car scene can hold its head high following the estimated 250,000 old vehicles that trundled out on to the Queen's highway yesterday, then. -

Honest John announces partnership with AROnline 11 Jan 2012 (News)
Going into partnership with HJ offers many opportunities to spread the word.” Honest John said, “Keith’s site more or less ends where ours starts so it a perfect fit. Keeping old British cars going creates a lot of work making and fitting the bits for them.
