    France’s PSA group – which owns Peugeot and Citroen - is in talks to buy Opel and Vauxhall.  General Motors is looking to sell its loss making European division and already works closely with PSA on a number of projects.

    The theme of the 53 rd National Austin 7 Rally was ‘Austin 7s and their cousins’. And vehicles came from as far away as France and Germany to join in the fun. Alongside dozens of the more familiar home-produced Austins were rarities from BMW Dixi, Rosengart and Holden. But no matter where they came from, all the cars at the event had one thing in common – they owed their heritage to the genius of Sir Herbert Austin and his designers who produced the first Austin 7 model in 1922.
  • GT40 celebrations hit the runway at Sywell Classic 31 Jul 2014 (News)
    Dave bought the car three years ago and returned it to road and track use. After suffering engine problems during a race at Val du Vienne circuit in France, he had the engine rebuilt and lightly modified so it now puts out 335bhp from the Ford 302 cu in V8. As well as the GT40s, there will be a mix of Formula One, Group B and C race cars, as well as historic single-seaters and saloons at the event.
  • Preview: Coys classic car auction, Ascot, 26 October 18 Oct 2013 (News)
    A 1961 Jaguar E-type 3.8 flat floor, chassis number 40 is to be auctioned by Coys at Ascot Race Course on 26 October. Chassis number 40 was left in a barn near Le Mans in France in 1974 and was there until discovered by Coys a few weeks ago. It has never moved although the engine was fired up some five years ago and turns over freely. Other cars featured in the Spirit of Motoring Auction, which takes place on 26 October at the Ascot race course on the outskirts of London, include a rare Connaught L3 racing car from the collection of heavy metal rock god Ian Hill of Judas Priest; one of the finest Jensen Interceptors, a Vignale FF model that the auction house has never seen before; as well as a fabulous example of early motoring: a Ford Model T Speedster.
  • KIA Builds 252,000 Cars a Year in Europe 19 Jan 2012 (News)
    The main export markets in 2011 were as follows: 23 per cent of total production output was delivered to Russia, 10 per cent to Great Britain, 9 per cent to Germany, 8 per cent to Spain and 5 per cent to France. The Kia cee'd family accounted for 41 per cent of production at Zilina in 2011, just ahead of the Sportage compact SUV on 40 per cent. More at KIA
  • Nissan Increasing Production 9 May 2009 (News)
    Last month Nissan experienced a year-on-year increase in sales in major European markets currently operating a scrappage scheme. This includes Germany (+9%), France (+31%) and Italy (+21%). In anticipation of this temporary increase in demand continuing, the plant will recruit 150 manufacturing staff on fixed-term contracts from June. The Temporary Manufacturing Staff, who will receive 4-month contracts, will operate over both of the plant’s two production lines to support a planned volume increase of around 14,000 units in total.
  • 10 More Pride of Ownership finalists revealed for NEC 9 Oct 2018 (News)
    Another ten finalists have been revealed for the Autumn Final of the Lancaster Insurance Pride of Ownership with cars coming from across the UK and even France. Held at the Lancaster Insurance Classic Motor Show, with Discovery, 20 cars in total out of the 100 entered will be invited to Birmingham’s NEC from Friday 9 to Sunday 11 November for the Grand Final.

  • Loeb Wins World Rally Championship For Citroen Yet Again 4 Oct 2010 (News)
    Dani Sordo and Diego Vallejo’s second place helped the Citroën Total World Rally Team secure its sixth Manufacturers’ World Championship title. After two long legs, the third day of Rally France took the crews to the north of Strasbourg. The final leg on which there were no service halts, consisted of two passages through the stage in the Bitche military camp followed by two passages through the stage in Haguenau, the town in which Loeb grew up.
  • Fresnel Lenses Halve LHD HGV Sideswiping 11 Dec 2007 (News)
    The Highways Agency will now distribute a further 90,000 lenses, targeting major ports in both England and France. Road Safety Minister Jim Fitzpatrick said: "Side-swiping is an issue we are determined to tackle. It's important that all truckers whether from Britain or overseas are able use our roads safely.
  • Vauxhall dealerships set to close across the UK following plunging sales 19 Apr 2018 (News)
    Approximately 1600 dealers across the European network will be given two years' notice from April 30 as the brands reorganise their dealer network. Vauxhall - which was bought along with Opel last year for £1.9 billion by France's PSA Group - would still be Britain's second largest dealer network after the restructuring. In April this year, PSA announced that it is investing £100 million in Vauxhall's Luton plant, securing van production there for at least the next decade.

  • Lord Mountbatten’s Rolls for sale 14 Mar 2016 (News)
    It reappeared after an Oxford dental surgeon, Captain Ralph Symmons, purchased the Silver Ghost in the South of France. He returned home with the motor car, removed the French number plates, and made an incredible discovery – a London registration that traced the Silver Ghost back to Lord Mountbatten’s ownership.
  • Mercedes-Benz Model K goes under the hammer 4 Mar 2016 (News)
    Philip Kantor, Bonhams European motoring director, said, ‘With some incredible motor cars in the sale, including this glorious green-bodied 1928 Mercedes-Benz Model K with its stunning Saoutchik transformable coachwork, we anticipate another exciting auction at the Mercedes-Benz Museum.’ Saoutchik was a coachbuilder deluxe, founded in France in 1906. The company was renowned throughout the 1920s and 1930s for its extravagant and high quality designs, as demonstrated with the vibrant green coachwork featured on the Model K offered. Bonhams Mercedes-Benz Sale will take place on Saturday 19 March in the Mercedes-Benz Museum, Stuttgart, Germany.
  • Italian classics take the top spots at Bonhams Quail Lodge sale 19 Aug 2015 (News)
    Top achiever of the sale was the alloy-bodied Ferrari 250GT competition car that claimed third place in the 1959 Tour de France. The fifth of seven ‘interim’ long wheelbase Berlinettas with short wheelbase style coachwork, this Ferrari had an illustrious racing career, followed by a top-notch two-year restoration, completed in 2014.
  • Whiplash claims waste ‘close to a million’ hours of GPs time each year 13 Feb 2015 (News)
    Eight in every ten accidents where one driver admits liability will lead on to a whiplash claim (78 per cent), versus 35 per cent in the Netherlands and 30 per cent in France. In order to reduce the number of fraudulent claims the UK Government is introducing a medical reporting panel called MedCo. From 1 April, anyone who wants to submit a whiplash compensation claim will have to get a medical report from a MedCo certified doctor.
  • Bonhams Auctions sells Ferrari 250 GTO for record-breaking £22.8 million at auction 15 Aug 2014 (News)
    Chassis 3851GT was previously owned by French racing driver Jo Schlesser who drove the 250 GTO to second place in the 1962 Tour de France. The car was raced throughout 1962, but required a complete factory rebuild after French ski champion Henri Oreiller crashed and died while racing at Montlhéry. The Ferrari subsequently passed through the hands two other amateur racing drivers before being bought by Fabrizio Violati in 1965 for £1400.
