Garage Dispute 6 Oct 2006 (Forum)
Hi There, I was hoping someone might be able to guide me in the right direction with a particular situation I have found myself in. I will try to keep it as short as possible! I purchased a 2nd hand car from a large dealer 2 months ago. I was told the car had a full service history. -
Omega 2.5 V6 breather/oil leak 20 Nov 2002 (Forum)
I found removing and replacing the fuel rail quite tricky - very nervous of dropping a bolt on removal and refitting. I would be interested in how Crombster or anyone else did it. You were right it is quite a time consuming but ultimately a very rewarding job. Any one know what a main dealer would charge. Many thanks again Kind Regards Ian -
Can I have my money back please? 28 Oct 2001 (Forum)
(The evaporator is sound) My patience has run out and I've asked the dealer for a full refund on the grounds that the car was never of satisfactory quality under basic consumer rights. He's reluctant to take the car back (presumably because he'll find it difficult to shift) and says that he'll only refund me the current trade value, not the amount I originally paid back in June. -
Warranty Woes 27 Oct 2006 (Forum)
Dear Motorist, I am unhappy with Ford Motor Company regarding the repair of a common fault on the current Mondeo range, namely rear suspension / sub frame bushes, which come loose and cause a disturbing knocking noise from the rear of the car. I exercised my consumer rights and brought the car to my local non franchised mechanic who I have happily used for 17 years with complete satisfaction, he duly informed me that the bushes had gone, which was a relatively common repair. -
Seat Ibiza 2018 (18) - Seat - Approved used under Warranty - Rejection ? 2 Aug 2019 (Forum)
It has other outstanding issues that haven't been fixed (electronics inside) plus the Stop Start hasn't been functioning since the last Dealership (same Franchise) repair. Noting that Consumer Law (2015) states three ways a vehicle can be returned: The one Im interested in is "Final right to reject (which extends for the first six months) Ive read that after 30 days on a major fault the dealer has one chance to repair the vehicle ( https://www.whatcar.com/news/your-legal-rights-if-something-goes-wrong-with-your-car/n3307 ) “If the fix doesn’t work, you are entitled to a refund” Any experience on this would be much appreciated. -
All - Mis-Diagnoses 8 Dec 2012 (Forum)
I think I should let a judge decide, am I in the right or not? I think mis-diagnosis on modern cars is a real consumer problem, as I think many parts are being replaced unnecessarily - it's only in cases such as mine, were the real problem still exists after replacement , and the fault is intermitent, that you find this out. -
Suzuki Swift - Dealer liability for ongoing gearbox issues 12 Jun 2022 (Forum)
I'm wondering in anybody knows if I have any legal recourse against the dealer? I read that under the Consumer Rights Act, they should repair and issue found in 6 months, and that their repair should fix the problem. However, though the gearbox is still clearly a problem, 6 months has passed. It does also require proof now that the issue wasn't caused by me but a bad part. -
2010 Golf 6 spd dsg - Used car previous fault 18 Jan 2019 (Forum)
Unfortunately the issue has only worsened, and he decided, rightly in my view, that he was rejecting the car under the consumer rights act 2015 as it was less than 30 days old, and informed the dealer of this via email and phone-call. I am driving the car back to the dealer in London on Saturday morning - exactly 7 days since the purchase. -
BMW X3 - MOT History indicates incorrect milage 17 Aug 2017 (Forum)
Not historical MOT Certificates were provided My concern is that this car will be very difficult to sell if someone checks the mot history. Im thinking this would fall under either consumer rights act (car not as described?) or someone mentioned unfair trading as the info is misleading.. So the question is , what impact does this have on the value of the car? Can I reject the car completely (minus a fair wear+tear?) -
BMW 1 Series (2005 - 2009) - What questions to ask when buying a used car?? 18 Mar 2013 (Forum)
This will be very helpful for me to ensure I make a good purchase for a well looked after car and I am in a good position regarding consumer rights (I will be voice recording my entire conversation with the salesman as back up in case anything goes wrong down the line - yes, I am taking this very seriously!) Thanks in advance for all your help guys, and I will be compiling a list of these questions and making an article to help future car buyers, so your answers will be good investment for future generations :P Cheers, Ky :) -
Mercedes Sprinter Van 218 - Repairs after Warranty Has Expired 8 May 2011 (Forum)
So I have had the second starter motor fitted at a cost of £500. What I'd like to know is if I have any consumer rights because I reported this fault before the warranty was up and the garage and able to find it, but it was obvious it was still there. -
Help! Kerb weight VW Passat 26 May 2005 (Forum)
I have searched around on the net and found a site ( http://www.dieselcar.com/volkswagen-frame.html ) that states that the kerb weight is as low as 1566kgs and with the 85% rule made it not a suitable car to pull my previous load. Getting to the point where do I stand under the consumer rights act if VW UK confirm the above as I stand to loose a packet if I need to change my car to a suitable vehicle. Yes you have probably guessed it?s a caravan -
Problem Polo Repurchased 24 Aug 2004 (Forum)
They have no power, and you have no contract with them, so don't bother with them. 2. Your legal rights are very strong. If the product has a fault which you can prove, you hold all the cards. If the garage doesn't repair it successfully at the first attempt it is not 'Fit for Purpose' and you can enforce your rights to a replacement or a full or partial refund. 3. -
BMW 318i 2006 - Fuel Leak on Used Car - What Do I Do? 9 Sep 2019 (Forum)
Hello all. Hoping somebody might have an idea as consumer rights helplines are closed for the weekend. On 20th July I bought a 2006 BMW 318i with 85k for £2650 from a used car dealer. At the time of purchase he wrote 6 month warranty at the top of the invoice & gave me documents for a 6 month warranty from WMS. -
Seat Alhambra 2019 S trim - Mouldy middle seat belt- leak? 20 Mar 2025 (Forum)
Obviously should have done my own checks and feeling terrible that I missed this. What does this mean for the car? I’m going to approach the dealer on Monday - aware under consumer rights protection I can ask for them to repair/ replace the seatbelt but I’m more worried about what the underlying problem is that caused the mould. Looking closely now, there is signs of some mould between the rear seats and on the third row back seat. -
Jaguar F type - any good lawyers specialising in car miss selling? 20 Jul 2016 (Forum)
I am based in Hull and legal action is pending but wondered if anyone has any positive feedback with any specific solicitors that have clearly dealt with the consumers rights act etc. Ultimately I think that it is an open and shut case as can prove he knew about the insurance history and the car being flooded etc and, even if he wasn't told about the warranty issue, he is still responsible for what he sells being as he advertised ie "comes with full UK Jaguar warranty" as per Autotrader advert. -
madza 6 2011 - Sumpstrainer failure, 19 Mar 2015 (Forum)
The car was in mechanics in January for service. This could not have been predicted. What are my consumer rights. The garage do not want to know , stating the guarantee is expired. However, we did nothing wrong. The garage offered 4,000 for car, and suggested we buy another car over a five year repayment package. -
Driving test rules? 5 Jan 2015 (Forum)
My motorcycle instructors seemed to shout about weird and insignificant things, but then didn't care about things like stopping in box junctions. The rules made very little sense to me, but maybe they weren't always right? -
Hyundai Santa Fe - Chances in small claims court 12 May 2012 (Forum)
They have said the gearbox will need to be replaced and this will cost £2850 inc. Is this something I could take under the consumers rights act as I am sure a automatic gearbox should last at least 4 times the amount of miles I have done -
Renault Clio II - Compensation/Repair 7 Mar 2011 (Forum)
I assume that if they "cannot afford" the £485.51 they will be offering me less for my car. Do i have the right to get the car fixed and they try and get the money back after? The garage that i brought it from want me to call them back after they have spoken to Trading Standards (who they say will agree with them and that i should expect what i get when i buy a 10 year old car).
