  The heat shield between the exhaust and engine sump has worked loose and I'm unable to tighten it as one of the nuts has cross threaded. The rattle is beginning to drive me mad now. Is it wise to just remove it for a week when the car goes in for a service?

  Some thug (to put it mildly) has hit my windscreen and placed three smallish cracks (viewable from inside) on the right hand side, bottom corner of the windscreen (as viewed sitting in the drivers seat). there are also some small stone chips too nearby, also created by the thug(s).

  IE, if you set the control to the left the heater appears to be off. but if you move it just an inch to the right, the heating comes on at full heat. Moving it any further to the right makes no difference to how hot the car gets. I happen to have another, identical 1995 405 GLX with working heating available to strip. But I don't know what to remove to get to the thermostat control or where any of the components that may be implicated actually are.
