  • Peugeot 406 - Fuel Pump on Peugeot 406 2.1 LX DT 8 Jul 2011 (Forum)
Any help and advice miuch appreciated as im just looking for a second opinion as my knowledge is pretty limited. The car runs like a dream for its age and would be a shame to see it go for spares or scrap.
  • ford puma - heating problems - an update?! 4 Jul 2011 (Forum)
    - Tried to trace the wire from the hcv connector to the control panel to check it - at the hcv its purple and black, at the control panel it seems to be full purple - is this normal? I'm racking my brains here and running out of ideas. I know taking it to a garage is easiest but I'm low on cash and so need to dispel as many possibilities as i can first, to save time/labour costs etc If you guys can offer any suggestions, I'd be extremely grateful!
  • All - 4 banger vs 6 pot. challenge 23 Jun 2011 (Forum)
A friend of mine has an Audi 2.5 V6 and he is very proud of the fact that it is silky smooth unlike a 'rough 4 cylinder'. The trouble is, apart from brief excursions of hard acceleration, it is impossible to run the engine at any appreciable load accept at very low RPM. Clearly having an engine spinning away at low load is inefficient and wastes fuel. This started a debate. For a given output in horsepower, which has the lowest NVH-a 6 cylinder at X RPM or a 4 cylinder at 1.5X RPM.
  • VW golf 2003 1.4 petrol - VW golf 2003 idle erratic, cuts out, exhaust smell 17 May 2011 (Forum)
It starts again straight away, but then may cut out again at the next junction (sometimes I need to rev it to keep it running). Just recently I started the car with the window open and noticed a petrol smell from the exhaust. I should also point out that the exhaust emmissions light (little picture of an engine) comes on every now and then, sometimes for a few hours, sometimes for days.
  • 2002 Ford Mondeo TDCI - Problems with Car since coming back from Garage 3 May 2011 (Forum)
They have indeed replaced the seal but they have used some kind of sealant around the Injector seal.  Since we got the car back it is now running lumpy, struggling to accelerate and kicking out black smoke from the exhaust. It did non of this when the Injector was leaking. We are very worried what the garage has done to the car and really have no idea what to do next.
  • Ford Focus 1.6 Auto 02 plate - EM light, problem fixed twice and back on again 28 Apr 2011 (Forum)
Hi all, First post here so hopefully will find out something new. My light came on a few months ago so I phoned my mate who runs a garage, he plugged his computer in and came up with a code regarding the fuel (oxygen sensors). I am not sure what the code was but he said there is 2 of them and one is more common to break than the other.
  • Volkswagen Passat TDi - VW Passat Head Change problem 23 Apr 2011 (Forum)
This morning I received a Vag Com lead and was having a nose about, just following some things off the net, and there were no fault codes listed but I discovered the cam timing is running at -4.4 and if what I have read is correct it should be between 0.0 and 0.5. I spoke to the garage that fitted the head and they said they've checked, checked and checked the cam timing again and it is correct but he did admit they do it manually not with a laptop.
  • VW passat 1.9 TDi PD 115 AJM - hesitation under load & lack of boost at 3000 rpm? 19 Apr 2011 (Forum)
Now really stuck as to what to do next, people have suggested changing fuel filter, replacing the housing to the fuel temp sensor, cleaning the MAF connector, replacing the thin hose that runs from the exhaust near the turbo to the ECU? ? dont know whether any of these things will help or if there is any new ideas people might have? Thanks in advance Natalie
  • 1.3cdti Vaux Combo van, 05 reg, 88K - Whining noise, rattle when cold, now water leak 19 Apr 2011 (Forum)
Cannot see where its coming from - seems like a fine mist and spraying from the aux belt area.  Also a lot of water evident, but not much drop in level from the exp tank, and running temp is normal, so assume its a pressurised leak making it look like more. As car booked in tomorrow anyway, going to let them sort it, but could this be water pump?  Could that have also caused the initial whine/whistle noise - or could we still be looking at something turbo related there too?
  • Honda CR-V - Screen wash leak 14 Apr 2011 (Forum)
Surely the Honda garage should be able to work out that [presumably] the pipe taking the screenwash from front to back has a) split or b) come apart somewhere. Does anyone know where it runs inside the car (it'll be somewhere on the drivers side) - to see if I can find it by lifting the carpets. And more to the point what should I say to Honda for wasting a day of our time and treating us like halfwits by ignoring what we said the problem was.
  • renault megane auto - endless starting problems 7 Mar 2011 (Forum)
I've got a 2001 Renault Megane auto with 60k on the clock. Its actually a very good car, clean engine, runs really well, etc, etc. BUT and its a big but. Since I got it a year ago I've had intermittent starting problems with it. Last winter and this winter. Dashboard lights up as you turn the ignition, then when you try to start it nothing.
  • Vauxhall Corsa 1.7cdti 2007 - Bought a 'Clocked' car - HELP PLEASE 24 Feb 2011 (Forum)
They also gave me (im guessing its forged) a service booklet in which they had carried out a service at 10ishk and 20ishk of owning the car (he said it was his wifes). The service stamps are from the car garage I bought it from (the seller owns and runs it).  Does anybody know what I can do? I would like either my money back (I paid 5k for the car) Or the difference in value as I'm guessing the car has done 70k+ by now. (on 24k now).  Would I have a claim in court?
  • Toyota Prius T3 - Insurance Renewal Gripe... 2 Dec 2010 (Forum)
So, the moral of this story seems to be that if you're unlucky enough to have your car vandalised, don't bother letting the Police know… It's far cheaper in the long-run! Seems pretty crazy to me - what are your thoughts? If an insurer uses the terms 'incidents' and 'claims' to mean the same thing, then isn't that just tautology?
  • Vauxhall Astra G Diesel - Vauxhall Zafira 2.0 DTI ECU/Fuel Pump Problem Help 7 Oct 2010 (Forum)
He then bought the OPCOM interface and software in the hope of reprogramming the new ecu, which he was told he had to do, he has security codes, vin numbers for both pumps but when he runs the software and enters the security code for the new pump there is a message about 'security wait time' which he's been told is around 4.5hrs. After 4.5hrs he goes back to the laptop and its frozen!
  • Seat Alhambra 1.9Tdi 115bhp-Limp Mode 26 Sep 2010 (Forum)
l have had a diagnostic check carried out with the Volkswagon/Audi sofware, with no faults/errors being identified. There is no smoke produced & as l say, otherwise it runs fine. Reading the threads, other people with the same problem have questioned the turbo itself, the Mass air meter (which has recently been changed) the coolant temperature sensor & the ECU. However, a common trait with this seems to be a split, loose or collapsed rubber pipe related to the turbo/valve.
  • Garages today...afraid to get their hands dirty? 8 Sep 2010 (Forum)
He took it to numerous garages who had absolutely no idea and were again, completely baffled. One garage even refused to look at it as it was their policy to run a diagnostic check ON AN IPOD for all cars that came in, and they, obviously, could not do this on his van...In the end, he found someone on a Bedford CF forum who came to look at the van for free, turns out it was a knackered head gasket.
  • No CCTV footage and driver denying liability :( 13 Aug 2010 (Forum)
He seemed oblivious to what he had done. At  this point I  phoned the police and basically gave a running commentary of what was occurring. The guy was so aggressive, but  calmed down once I pointed  out the cctv cameras. To cut a long story short, I damaged my shoulder quite badly and I'm still receiving treatment.
  • 2005 Vauxhall Corsa 1.2 16v - Leaking Head Gasket? 24 Jul 2010 (Forum)
Hi, bought the car beginning of June and noticed a very very small amount of creamy oil under the filler cap, did some long runs in the car and sure enough the problem went away (I do about 15 miles each way to work and back every day). Most of the time the temp gauge sits ever so slightly below the middle mark, but it does seem to easy to push it above.
  • Peugeot 206 - pug 206 1.9d fuel isnt reaching the engine 22 Jul 2010 (Forum)
ok so heres one for you, my pug 1.9d non turbo, has been running rough for the last few days, i put it down to the erg valve, its a sommon thing in these apparently, the engine was rough, struggling on a warm start, and just generally not sounding healthy so i was driving down the pub last night and went over a speed bump and heard a grinding noise and it cut out, called the AA and the guy turned up and started doing his thing.
  • A Ford ICE warning 1 Jul 2010 (Forum)
After reporting the matter to the police (barely interested), inquiries next day revealed that there is currently a spate of thefts of this particular Ford ICE unit from both Mondeo and Focus models. In fact, it turned out that a nationally based windscreen replacement company has run out of side windows for the Focus in my area. Now he is waiting with some interest to find out from whoever repairs the door handle just how anyone could get into the vehicle with so little damage and without setting off the alarm.
