  • Coaching needed for coach driver? 14 Oct 2003 (Forum)
I sat near the front so I could be nosey and watch what was going on 'cos I used to drive coaches part-time in the early 70's. During the trip up the driver yawned continually, appeared to ignore his mirrors, mercilessly tailgated traffic trying to observe the 50 mph limit through the roadworks and took a 15 minute call on the plumbed-in mobile fitted to the dash (not hands-free) during which time he steered with alternate elbows (never deviating more than a couple of inches from the nearside lane marker).
  • Car hire accident - advice ? 3 Oct 2003 (Forum)
Some days later she is in a queue of stationary traffic in a multi-storey car park. Someone reverses out of their space into the side of the car. She collected the other driver?s insurance details but neglected to take any witness details. All this was passed on to the hire company the same morning. We return the car some days later and told the deposit would be withheld until fault was determined.
  • Fuel Filter on Back to Front! - Cavalier 30 Sep 2003 (Forum)
And given that the fuel filter appeard fine (if back to front) is it worth keeping as a spare? Assuming car continues to run fine, I shall be very pleased with my morning\'s labours... Cheers Jono
  • Renault 19 Problem 13 Sep 2003 (Forum)
The problem is it will not idle. Other than that it runs great, accelerates normally, it doesn\'t misfire, it\'s not using excessive amounts of fuel or oil, and it starts first time every time. It is a 1390cc (EJ6) engine with a Weber 32 TLDR carb. I left the car standing for two weeks, while I was on holiday.
  • Help - Indecision! 16 Jun 2003 (Forum)
Then I started wondering if the lack of toys and comfort would begin to grate after a while. I've half considered a Type-S - £3,000 cheaper, group 11 insurance, 5 doors and still reasonably quick. But it's not the same.... Other cars I've considered have been the Leon Cupra - rejected due to the new model coming out later this year which is gorgeous and dates the current model (also some worries about the reliability of the 1.8 20V engine).
  • Bullying Fiat into a fix 24 Apr 2003 (Forum)
So then I turn on the Dealer's service manager, and tell him nevermind my contract is with you anyway so you sort it - he says he won't -- I say yes you will and I'm going to write this letter - write your s**ding letter he says... So I did and a week later the same gentlemen phones and books the car in - it now has a whole new sunroof asssembly (and it was only a few bubbles on a bit of trim).
  • Life flashed before my eyes! 17 Apr 2003 (Forum)
Driving back on a lovely stretch of route national from Lyon to Grenoble, France yesterday (it\'s 26C here, not that I want to rub it in or anything), I was costing downhill past a procession of lorries crawling up on the opposite side. My speed was about 100Kmh, the opposite side traffic was doing about 30kmh.
  • vectra di 14 Mar 2003 (Forum)
Weird thing is that once the car is started it will run forever no probs, it will even start off the crank all day no probs at all. It\'s just that initial first start. Anybody any ideas? If you want more info on something just ask. Cheers
  • Mondeo Noises 24 Feb 2003 (Forum)
I have posted about this before, but the problem persists. Thanks to all who gave suggestions previously. Anyway, I own a 1999 Mondeo 1.8 LX. It makes...
  • Why now?? 20 Dec 2002 (Forum)
I now have the battery on charge having spent the best part of an hour 'persuading' it from under the bonnet with what odds and ends of tools I could find and, obviously, some expletives aimed in the right direction. While removing the battery I noticed that the front o/s tyre was a bit low, mentioned this during a phone call to SWMBO to tell her that I'd finally got the battery off,'Oh yes, I forgot to mention, I think I've got a slow puncture, it's been going down a bit everyday for a week or so...'
  • Tapping Rover 75 2L V6 4 Sep 2002 (Forum)
I took it to the Rover garage and they said that a Rover engineer was coming out to inspect it. According to the garage the engineer said that he had heard this before on some other 75's and it was nothing to worry about although they failed to state what the problem is! I was asked to take the car back in a months time for another inspection. The thing is I feel (no...I know I am!)
  • Will it be a Vectra? They said they'd try 1 Apr 2002 (Forum)
Well it just HAD to be, didn't it, after everything you chaps say about them. (Anyway, they didn't have any V8's left). I'm not even sure I've seen one (who was that wag at the back who said "you did but probably didn't notice it"). I have asked for one in blue if possible :-) Surely they can't be that awful?
  • Advice on estate cars...... 13 Mar 2002 (Forum)
I have been most taken with the Volvos, especially the 850. However £6.5K does not seem to go to far when looking at 850's, typically I am looking at a P reg. with almost a 100K on the clock for the engine size and trim spec I desire. Admitadly most of the cars I have seen come with a FVSH, with one or two owners. However when comparing this with a more common Mondeo (or Laguna especially) I could get a lot younger, lower mileage vehicle for my wad.
  • Citroen DS5 - My Road Test Report 13 Mar 2015 (Forum)
My average fuel consumption for the day was 42 MPG, some way short of the 55 MPG combined figure, but there was quite a lot of stop/start city driving, and the engine had only done 2000 miles, so I would expect a figure in the high 40’s realistically. The steering lacked feel for me, contributing to a somewhat remote feeling, so you’re not going to relish attacking twisty bits on A and B roads in this car. All of which brings me to the DS5’s worst point: Ride quality.
