  • Ford S-MAX - Heater Fan Speed 13 Jun 2013 (Forum)
This I suspect is because it has been hot and the systems were trying to cool the cars down which have probably been parked in the sun. Have any other members had this problem with their cars, and if so how was it fixed? Or has anyone got any suggestions how to fix this problem? Thanks in advance for any help given.

  • Peugeot 106 - Oil leak and sludge in water 30 Jun 2011 (Forum)
Hi, i bought a 1998 106 1.1 for a cheap run around a couple of weeks ago. it's got 83000 on the clock and got full service history. the problem i've got is that i noticed a creamy brown sludge in the radiator cap and the odd bit floating on the top. the lady we bought it off had the head gasket replaced and cylinder head skimmed at 78000 (2 years ago) and i have the paper work for this. the car doesn't seem to overheat and the heater works fine. there is no mayo on the oil cap or dipstick. i took the radiator cap off and started the car and the coolant level raised up but didn't bubble. the bottle does look very dirty on the inside, but i put that down to the previous blown head gasket. to add to this there is a oil leak and it's all over  the sump. is it possible the head gasket could have blown again or could the sludge be from the previous hgf and they never flushed the system out properly. not too worried about the oil leak for now cos i done a 50mile trip and had no oil drips in my parking space after. if anyone could help, i would be very grateful
  • Citroen ZX wont start. Help! 2 Nov 2010 (Forum)
I've a problem with my Citroen ZX (92J 1360 (carb)) that's got me a bit flummoxed. The problem began when I pulled into a parking space - it stalled suddenly just before I stopped. After that it hasn't run at all. I've checked the ignition and it seems to be sparking OK, so my initial though was that it must be fuel. The fuel pump seems to be working as it should, and I changed the carb for one I had lying around in the garage.
  • More drivers use mobile phone since penalty change 13 Dec 2009 (Forum)
So, if they really do believe that using phones is a menace, they need to either start catching more people (if they parked an unmarked car near me, then could get literally dozens per hour) or make the penalty much harsher (likely in terms of increased points). Otherwise the whole thing seems pointless to me (is like having one ticket inspector for the whole rail network, who can fine you a maximum of a quid, and then expecting it to deter fare dodgers).
  • Ford Fiesta (1995 - 1999) - 96 1.3 Smoke from Exhaust 8 Oct 2009 (Forum)
I turned engine off..... and started a few minutes later. Started fine this time, and no sign of smoke, until I put my foot on the accelerator, then it pours out. At first I thought this could be a damaged head gasket. but this was changed just over 6months ago. I phoned around a few garages and some seem to think that the engine has blown.
  • BMW 3-Series E46 (1998 - 2005) - 02 2.0 Car not starting 7 Aug 2009 (Forum)
Experiencing strange behavior with my 320D. Was running fine until Sunday when I stopped the car. When I came back and tried to start it again no joy. It was turning over but just not starting. My initial reaction was that it must be the battery. I got a set of jump leads and the car started.
  • Three bulbs blown within 48 hours? Haunted car? 11 May 2009 (Forum)
Never had any trouble with bulbs in this car, yesterday I asked my dad to move his car up so I could park behind him and noticed one of his rear tail lights was out. My dad the next day went and got a replacement and fitted it himself after showing him what to do the day before. He was very proud of his acheivement until I pointed out the other tail light had gone!
  • Peugeot 806 MPV (1995 - 2003) - 2002 2.0 HDi 16v Engine cuts out 17 Mar 2009 (Forum)
My 806 will cut out but not all the time you can go drive it for miles on the motorway at 80+ with no problems, but then as soon as you put your foot down flat to the floor through the gears or need more power to turn up a hill it will cut out if you then turn off ignition and start it again it works fine like nothing happened you can even put your foot down and it wont cut out again, it seem very random. but if you then park up over night or leave for a period of time it go's through the same process again The engine managment light do come on but after about 4 starts it go's out, the car was going into limp mode before (which is now ok) and i have spent loads on garage bills and parts its had Tank fuel pump fuel fillter housing cam and crank sensors airflow meter air fillter breathers cleaned this is a new problem and i cant afford to take it back to garage , would this be a problem with the fuel pressure switch or the connector ?
  • BMW 3-Series E46 (1998 - 2005) - - Blue smoke, anyone know a good indie in Leics ? 12 Oct 2007 (Forum)
A colleague bought a BMW about a month ago and has arrived at work this morning with some problems. The car is a 330i SE 52 reg. and done 141,000. The car has been fine until he was on the way to work this morning when it started smoking. The smoke is blue (oil we assume). We have been looking at the car in the car park and can find nothing wrong with it. When the engine is revved it throws out a cloud of blue smoke.
  • Golf MkIV Fuel starvation/throttle issue 5 Jun 2007 (Forum)
Car: 2001 Golf MkIV, 72,000miles, petrol, 1.6 I first had this problem in Feb 2006. As I was pulling into a car park the engine cut out on me at low revs. Couldn't get it started normally. Got the AA out and the guy reckoned it was a throttle potentiometer problem. He started the car by manually opening the fuel valve.
  • antiroll bar link keeps failing vectra 10 May 2007 (Forum)
a couple of months later the ns started making knocking noises with steering to left or right. the gaitors on the link appeared perfectly fine and no play was detected pulling the link by hand. you could feel the link vibrating after a knock induced by the steering movement. its interesting that even with both front wheels off the ground it was still knocking. both sides were agained changed just to rule out.
  • Daewoo Matiz Nightmare Update 5 Jan 2007 (Forum)
How-ever, when they opened the drivers door, the seal at the top of the door, about the centre top had droplets of water on the inside, and are confident that it is dripping in from here striaght to the floor, when it is parked up and raining hard. The seal looks ok, anyway, they have bent the door, ever so slightly to make a better seal at the top of it where it is coming in. 1. What would one suggest to make the seal better. It does look fine. 2.
  • IAM driving techniques 17 Nov 2004 (Forum)
So far it has been well worth it and I am ironing out bad habits picked up from eight years of driving. I would certainly recommend it to anyone else. However, while most of their suggestions seem fine, what are other BackRoomers thoughts on these two that I'm not sure about: 1. No eye contact with anyone except motorcyclists, with whom you should always try to make eye contact with. The biker bit seems sensible, acknowledging you have seen them.
  • Megane coolant loss 11 Sep 2004 (Forum)
I topped it up with some water (had no coolant to hand), and drove home and the car was fine temperature wise. Checked the coolant level again, and it had dropped right down. So it seems to be loosing coolant, but there are no obvious leaks, no dripping or crystal formations anywhere. I'm hoping this isn't the head gasket on the way out!
  • BMW 316i auto box slipping (E36)? 16 Mar 2003 (Forum)
My experience of autos is minimal to be honest. I've heard that older BMW autoboxes can self-destruct if revved in Park or Neutral so I wonder if this one is going the same way.
  • Warning!! Is this a con?? 8 Apr 2001 (Forum)
He had a letter from a company I believe called Security International somewhere on the South coast stating that his car ( the make and reg. no. were on the letter ) had been illegally parked on December 29th 2000 somewhere else down South and as a result had been clamped. The clamp had been removed without authorisation and as a consequence he as to pay a £30 fine. If he did not comply proceedings would be commenced.

  • C3 Opinions 8 Jul 2002 (Forum)
I'd sat in the C3 in the showroom a couple of months back and couldn't get my 6'2" cuddly frame comfortable, but in this car I fitted just fine. The only downside is that with me in the front seat, you can forget about anyone else sitting behind as there was very little legroom left. Rear visibility is a bit iffy when reverse parking, the back pillar (C?)
