  • VW golf gti - cutting out when warmed up, speedo jumping, 14 Oct 2010 (Forum)
the needle also jumps up and down whilst doing this, after waiting at the roadside for about 5mins, the car will start up fine and drive very nicely, but sure enough after a few minutes of driving it will do the same thing.  also when i leave the car standing from start with the engine running, just when you would expect the coolant fan to kick in , the engine cuts out. i've been told it could be many things but dont want to fork out loadsa cash on the wrong parts heres a list of possible problems i have been told of; crank sensor, idle control valve, air lock in rad, coolant  temp sensor, hall sender, throttle body leak and an ecu relay???????????????
  • PPeugeot 306 Turbo Diesel - Fumes in cabin urgent help needed 12 Oct 2010 (Forum)
Car runs fine and does not use an excessive amount of water. No excessive smoke or drips out of the exhaust when driving. Recently I have had the air filter and oil filter changed. I am getting the whole exhaust replaced as the end of the tail pipe has corroded and there is not a proper exhaust exit and I think this could be the cause of fumes coming into the cabin.
  • Panoramic Sunroof - Has anyone had problems? 23 Aug 2010 (Forum)
Have rang my current insurers and they say it is not covered under windscreen cover and that i have to put a claim in which can affect my NCB in the long run. (Have not bought the car yet, just asked them what if i had a car with a panoramic sunroof)
  • Chrysler Voyager (1997 - 2001) - 97 3.3 cooling fans won't come on????? 20 Jul 2010 (Forum)
Just comeback from holiday, and whilst away, driving in a 10mph area (for what seemed like ages) the over temp light came on, and I noticed that the fan's weren't running. So I pulled over and turned off the engine, turned the ignition back to start, and they came on (cooling the engine), so started up and drove on. The following day, driving through the same area, same thing happened, though this time when the ignition was turned back on, NO fans, so let the engine cool a bit and found a nice bit of 40mph road to cool the beast down.
  • 2001 ford fiesta 1.8 TD (di engine) - diesel fiesta will not start 6 Jul 2010 (Forum)
Hi, I was hoping someone could help shed some light on the issue I am having with a y reg diesel fiesta Turbo Diesel. It has not been started in over a year but was running ok before it was taken off the road. I got it transported to my garage last week and fitted a new battery and glow plugs to it. The engine turns over ok on the starter and the long you keep it going the faster it turns over until you think its is going to start but it never does.
  • Vauxhall Corsa D - 05 Corsa 1.4 16v auto/08 Corsa 1.2 semi auto? 20 Jun 2010 (Forum)
Option 2 is at Motorpoint and is £6,299 but they want £175 over 42 months after which there'd still be £2,300 or thereabouts balloon payment. However, there is the benefit of the latter being (presumably) cheaper to run owing to better fuel consumption, lower insurance, etc. I've tried and failed to find direct comparisons - any opinions on which would be better? Personally I think the new shape looks much better but that's a poor reason in itself :) so if anyone's driven both and/or can advise generally I'd be pleased to know!
  • What car next? 6 Jun 2010 (Forum)
My budget is limited to £6k. We had several years with a Kia Pride as a second car, it was cheap to run and very reliable. Does anyone have a recommendation for a small car?
  • Nissan Leaf - the car to drive the recovery? 18 May 2010 (Forum)
£23K for a mid-size hatch is dear of course, but personally I just cant get the 100 miles for £1 running cost out of my head. Especially after the once-a-week £60 pain I feel visiting the forecourt. 1 years fuel costs for me is approx £2700, or the price difference between the Leaf and a conventionally powered rival, which would probably depreciate much faster than a Leaf too.
  • Volvo S60 (2000 - 2009) - 02 2.4 D5: "Engine Service Required" 5 May 2010 (Forum)
I've not started the car since, but I'd be interested to know how concerned I should be. The car is about 3,000 miles away from its next scheduled service and is otherwise running flawlessly. I've had it since new and it covers about 1,500 (mainly motorway) miles a month. Much obliged, WdB http://www.honestjohn.co.uk/forum/post/index.htm?t=58684&v=f
  • Citroen C3 LX 1.4 Petrol . - Citroen C3 engine idle issue 26 Apr 2010 (Forum)
    - also if i drive it for a while and come to a junction or stop for any reason you can feel the car running "up and down" so to speak.. the idle rev is not consistant. Could this be a faulty idle sensor? Any input would be highly apreciated :) Here is the car - http://img404.imageshack.us/img404/9823/img00477201004091431.jpg Thanks, Jake.
  • Ford Escort 1600 Zytec 1998 - Misfire 14 Apr 2010 (Forum)
Hi - I've a 1998 Escort 1600 Zytec that has started to run erratic. The problem started about 6 months ago. After about an hour of driving the car appeared to lose power (like it was on 3 cylinders) as soon as you put the accelerator to the floor it cleared and was OK.
  • The Donkey trap future - motoring with no motor 31 Mar 2010 (Forum)
Elegance is dead really don`t you think? It`s been a steady downhill run since the Art Deco era and now across the world slobbery prevails in dress and attitude. Shambling figures in tatty jeans, bloated by the puffery of wadding and internal padding. Long gone, the effort or fashion of looking good - except in France, where the odd female of a certain age stands as a beacon of desire and fashion that actually attracts the jaded eye.
  • A reliable people carrier - Suggestions for a good value 7 Seater ? 20 Mar 2010 (Forum)
I would advise that he avoids any Renault Espace / Grand Scenic - lovely cars but unreliable and expensive to repair (at least the one's he can afford) ?   Any thoughts from the back-roomers - I seem to recall that someone runs a Galaxy to stellar (pardon the pun) mileages ?
  • 1.1 Citroen Saxo 1999 - Cutting out and then not even ticking over to start again! 16 Mar 2010 (Forum)
This morning as we scrapped the ice off the car, it cut out after starting first time, again as usaul the car started straight up again... once we begain to drive out of the carpark it did it again this time failing to start at all... not even ticking over! We have a feeling this may be down to the ECU but only bought the car as a cheap run around so not spending £500 on a new ECU.. thats almost what we paid for the car! Please can someone give me some good news or other possible problems i could look at before the ECU?
  • Welcome Back - 15 March 2010 15 Mar 2010 (Forum)
Hello, The Back Room is open again. We're as pleased to have it up-and-running as you are to see it open again. It's been a busy few weeks getting the Back Room back as it should be. It's been tested by a large number of users and is now in a state that everyone should be happy with.
  • Ford Mondeo III (2000 - 2007) - 04 tdci 130 Noisy diesel or just normal? 22 Feb 2010 (Forum)
Hi all, Wondering if anyone can advise on the following:- I have driven several diesels in the past (Toyota, Peugot, Vauxhall) which all differed slightly in age and refinement, noise etc etc. I have recently bought a 2004 Mondeo TDCI 130 with 58,000 miles on the clock, which seems to run very nicely with plenty of power and very quiet considering it's a diesel, however as it's the first ford diesel i've owned i'm unsure if the noises i hear on this car are a problem are as they should be!!

  • Honda Civic UK (2001 - 2005) - 02 1.6 Engine Temperature problem? 22 Jan 2010 (Forum)
I have noticed that the temperature guage only moves about a quarter up the scale. After a long motorway run followed by some city driving I noticed white smoke from the exhaust. I checked the oil which looked clean and the coolant is unclouded. I noticed that the engine and radiator were warm but not hot.
  • Ford Focus (1998 - 2004) - 01 2.0 Reduced fuel economy, noisy fuel injector 13 Jan 2010 (Forum)
I have noticed over the past few months that my fuel economy has dropped from a consistent 36 - 38mpg (mixed town and motorway) down to just 30mpg. I used to achieve well over 40mpg on a pure motorway run but can't get above 32mpg currently. I believe the problem is due to 1 of the fuel injectors. With the bonnet up a constant light tapping noise can be heard. It gets louder and faster with increasing revs.
  • Vauxhall Astra G Coupe/Convertible (2000 - 2004) - 02 2.2 Misfiring 4 Jan 2010 (Forum)
There was a slight knocking when the car was turning over. When the car started, it was knocking slightly but was running on 3 cylinders and really flat. The car starts first time but the revs go up and down and it struggles to tick over. In a high gear at low revs, the car shunts back and forth. It sound better when the throttle is pushed, but it sounds flat and there is no guts in it.
