• VVW Golf mk4 1.6 5dr 2001 - start up issues/help? 11 Jul 2012 (Forum)
  Hi Guys, Recently purchased the golf in the title as my first car, the engine runs really nicely on it but i have some issues on start up. it has started everytime first time but sometimes the car decides sounds a little like it is struggling with lower toned "wurr wurr" kinda noise, and as soon as the engine first turns over sometimes there is a higher pitched short and sharp noise, that sounds kinda maybe like rubber catching against metal at a guess?

    Otherwise it looks decent enough, a few dings and scrapes but not too shabby, about what you would expect from a T registration Micra, hopefully a reliable little run around. And the lady seems nice and honest.   Exhaust looks slightly dodgy and one round 50p size rust mark on underside of the front crossmember near to join but gave good resistance to a press with my front door key.

  Its a 2003 Peugeot 206 1.4 lx, had a lot of work done to it over the last year or so by a mechanic who sold me the car himself such as new clutch, tyres etc. Car runs fine, so far as I can tell from my experience in a car this far. Only issue is the double warning beep which happen every 15/20 minutes or so, and I have really no idea what I should be looking for.

  I know we ae not doing the engine any good at the moment, but car is under warranty and do not seem interested when we explain above to dealership. And typically, whenever we have driven it to them, the car is running and starts fine, so there is "nothing" they can do. Not really looking for how to fix this problem, as I am sure it is well beyond me, but would like an idea as to what it is o i can tell mechanics Oh, car done 45k miles Any Help/advice much appreciated   G&J H

  It was suggested that he took the car back to the dealer, as this is an indication of possible oil contamination. (failed regeneration on too many short demo runs) I have read nothing more on the subject, so assume sorted, but talking to my local dealer the other day, they had an aveo 1.3vcdi demo and the warning light came on and has stayed on, so is now being dealt with.
• Volkswagen Golf IV - VW Golf oil leak - new engine?? 25 Feb 2012 (Forum)
      I have a VW Golf 1.4 its a V reg and has done about 90k.    After finishing a night shift I decided to run my car for a while to warm it up before driving as it was about -10 and snowing! I went back to my car after 15 minutes and found a huge pool of oil under it, popped the bonnet to find oil had also come out of the dipstick and there was no oil left.

  My veh is making the same noise as others have reported, 'turbo whistle' when the engine is cold and between 1400 - 1800/2000 rpm, as soon as the engine upto running temp this noise goes.My veh is covered with fullHonda warranty for 12mths so if there is a prob I need to get it sorted.I visited a local Honda dealer and I must say the quality and level of service recieved was 2nd to none.

  We then called an auto-electrician who has been working on it without any luck. The engine won't start. The battery won't stay charged. The main problem was it started, runs for a few seconds then cut out. I searched the net for any help and found this website, I have read the previous thread about the heater matrix earth wire and the auto-electrician found the earth wire had melted, but has fixed the wire and the car still won't start.

  We had the battery tested and it was 12.1v idleing and 14.1 when being revved so was told it was ok but not amazing. Later that night the car was running and as I turned the lights on it died again. After we jumped it it was ok until the next day when I flashed a car and it died and I rolled to a stop. We have had the battery changed and is now 12.4v and 14.4v but as soon as the heated front screen turns on it drops drimaticly and the charging light comes on again.

  Anyway very courteous tech chap does an exchange for me new for old, lovely thinks i till he explaines that they no longer repair the old units in fact no longer make them and are running out of stock never to replace GADZOOKS says i. Now i have been using the TM yq unit for nigh on 10 years (those of you who don't know what they are there used to be television size monitors in the motorway services showing real time delays all over the country via small arrows with average speeds noted, the yq unit was a dashboard mounted smaller version).

  Als the fault indication came back and the light of the motormanagement is back on again. The motor is starting and running OK, but still has a high fuel consumption. What to do, to find the cause of this problem, please help.   Sorry for my poor English, but I'm a dutch guy.

  the engine starts to stall when coming to a stop,when it does stall when starting its lumpy when revved, the last time two days ago it backfired and since run perfectly.Now we have taken it back to the garage they said the exhaust manifold was cracked and welded it. they put it on their diognostic mechine,and said its reporting large voltage fluctuations on the lambda sensor.They said we could try changing the sensor £100 pound and it may cure the fault, but i think it may be what ever sends the voltage to it,i cant afford a gamble of £100.what do you think,my wife uses the car for work and ferrying around our two and five year olds and i work away most of the time so not around to get them if it fails again.Any advice much appreciated.

  Hi, My girlfriend used the car last night and the 'petrol' light was on so she did me a 'favour' and put £25 in it. she then drove it the couple of miles home. I went to use it this morning and it didnt start first time and took a while to settle down and run normal (ish). whilst driving it for around the first half a mile it felt like it was going to cut out. As we are planning on using the car a bit tommorrow and i was driving past a petrol station i put another £15 in. drove off, got on a dual carriageway, went to over take someone and it went into limp mode (which it does every now and then but normally only when i really put my foot down). i pulled over and it cut out.

   In the workshop we always change the sump washer: the torque is: 25 nm Failure to change the oil will drastically shorten the life of this well built strong motor and lead to a degree of sludging which in modern close-tolerence designed engines is a bad thing.  Get into the habit of checking the rear exhaust of your car to see how it's running: in a well maintained petrol engine it will be fairly clean with very little oil deposits: if the exhaust is very black with alot of oil,  it perhaps shows signs of internal engine wear: such as the big end bearings or valve stem seals worn or oil control rings on the pistons.

  Hi all,HELP can anybody help with my problam,ive recently taken my vectra to be diagnosed because my engine managment light kept coming on so he did the test and it was reading p0002-fuel metering solonoid valve circuit range/performance(present) p1125-throttle actuator malfunction(intermitent) p0960-rail pressure control solonoid valve circuit open(intermitent) After he had done this we had a look round the engine and noticed the the rod had come of the swirl flaps on the inlet manifold,he said this could be caursing the problam so i replaced the inlet manifold and it was still the same so i replaced the p0002 fuel metering solonoid valve and its still the same im not getin any symptons as such i just loose a bit of power be for it goes in to limp mode but if i dip thge clutch an rev it it revs really high before it goes in to limp mode could it be one of the intermittent faults thats caursing my EML to come on because the light does go of for a day or two and it runs sweat but when the light comes on it starts, well being a bit funny........ any advise would be great,could it be that the ECU want erasing or somthing i dont know?????????

  He saw no problems with the sensors and suggested a retest . Plugs changed, air and oil filter changed, new oil put through and taken for adecent run (8 or so miles) but driven normally as in up through the gears then taken for todays retest and FAIL!! (values as above) Car regularly does fair bit of miles on medium jouiornetys eg work days between 17 - 65 miles each way and weekends tend to be short journeys of less than a couple of miles.

  Wiring was all sorted by a kind neighbour, but now the check engine light has started flashing and the engine won't run. it turns over perfectly but won't catch. What confuses me even more though is that after rewiring it I took it out for a short journey (about 5 miles) and it was perfect. Parked up and 2 hours later it wouldn't start.

• ford mondeo - Another dodgy mondeo tdci, wont start 24 Aug 2011 (Forum)
  It came as a non runner (kind of) with 2 sets of injectors and 2 HP fuel pumps. the car would tow off and run fairly smooth at low revs, anything over 2500 rpm and it would cut out and need towing / bumping again. Immediate thoughts are fueling issues. I sent both pumps and all injectors to a well respected bosch and delphi diesel specialist.
• Chrysler Grand Voyager 2003 3.3 - error code p0420 and whining 22 Jul 2011 (Forum)
  Had the same problem took forever to find where the whinning was coming from. Look under the middle of the car while running and listen for a whine while someone else eccelrates it. There is a plastic 3 ball looking thing that has a vacumm in it that helps with pressure. Mine was shrunken from heat and therefore leaked its called a Vac Harness and it was 8.00 from the dealer. part # was 4431325 hope this helps good luck.
