  • About to buy a new Volvo? 30 Jun 2005 (Forum)
After a lot of negotiation I got mine for £17,100 including Metallic paint (against a list price of £22,013) from a Volvo dealer (a saving of over 22%). If I had been able to use this scheme above as well I would have got a further £1,283 off (7.5%) and £500 for the metallic paint i.e saving a further £1,783. This would have made a £22,000 car £15,317 new, from a dealer with 3 year warranty, free RAC cover, etc.
  • Cars easier to service, DIY declining 16 Jan 2007 (Forum)
It was DIY or no car, with all that implied re girls. Some of us ( mates from school) continue to service our cars as our 60s approach. Opinions? I`m particularly interested in how others ( other than professionals mechs )of other ages became interested in DIY, and aquired the ability to service their car and to why DIY owner maintenance ( beyond the warranty) is reducing.
  • Honda CR-V / Citroen C3 1.4 Hdi - Should i sell my Honda CR-V or C3 ? :) 9 Aug 2015 (Forum)
I own a Honda CR-V 2.0 Petrol, Life Style with 36000 km on clock (a lot of nice equimpent like Xeonon, Alcantara seats, etc,tc..) . I keep this car in the garage when is not driven.   This period of life w dont use too much car, so we are driving like 10000-13000 km per year (including both cars). For the CR-V i also have spare Wheelset (17" Alloy Honda + Continental Cross contact Winter tires (only 9000 km passed on them)), RoofRack, Bike + Ski Racks...
  • Nissan Qashqai - Qashqai, loss of power, alarm going off etc 29 Mar 2020 (Forum)
Have said they need it in for a prolonged time to replicate fault, what so they can feel that it feels like the intelligent braking is cutting in when not meant to. I can’t see what use that is if still not registering any fault codes and did not offer me a loan car for that time (under warranty) until I asked for one - they told me in 2 weeks. I’m not prepared to drive a car loosing power out of the blue like that for two weeks!
  • Renault Zoe - Renault Zoe 1 Nov 2012 (Forum)
HJ's piece about the Zoe and its pricing got me thinking. There's a possibility that it could be a useful replacement for Mrs SDAs Yaris Verso auto. The pricing looks good at around £14K and from the Renault website I think that includes 4 years servicing and warranty. BTW the Renault Zoe website is more style than substance, that's why I say 'I think'.
  • Daihatsu Materia (2007 - ) - My dads first 1000 miles 8 Sep 2009 (Forum)
Opportunity missed there. Its alot bigger than the Yaris inside though. It just feels huge inside, moreso than a car shorter than a Fiesta has any right to. The dashboard is easy to use, everything is where you expect it and as is common with jap cars of old, its childplay to get used to the way the car drives. It is utterly conventional, smooth autobox, chunky controls and I must say, very well screwed together.
  • Mobilo experience 15 Jan 2007 (Forum)
After hitching car via tow-hook & using wooden blocks under the rear wheels to 'slip' the car backwards, it was loaded by about... 14:25pm Then taken to the dealership. Meanwhile, Mobilo rang a national car rental firm to arrange a replacement car., who then rang me to confirm status/driving licence details & get CC number.
  • BMW M4 - BMW M4 Seat Issue 4 Oct 2020 (Forum)
Hi, New to the forum. I have a 2019 BMW M4 Competition Pack. I’ve had the car a year and all is well, apart from the double sided sticky tape not holding the M4 grill badge on fully. A few days ago, whilst cleaning the car, I moved the passenger seat forward, firstly using the mechanical back release and then the convenience button on the top of the seat.
  • Any considered - Best car to buy at 3 years old 25 Nov 2014 (Forum)
I'm hoping and planning to semi-retire in 3 to 4 years when I'll be 65. My existing company car will be traded in in 9 months time. I'll have the opportunity to buy my next company car after 3 years and this will be my retirement car to be used 1 day a week for work and the rest for visiting relatives and several drives down to Normandy and a couple to south of France  each year.
  • First car buying advice 22 Dec 2011 (Forum)
I'd rather not go for a cheap motor, but something for £2000-3000 that's in slightly better shape with an AA warranty from a used car dealer. I'm looking at a 2007 1.2 Fiat Grande Punto Active/Dynamic, which sits nicely around that price bracket. Good mileage, only one previous owner. The insurance is manageable too, as the Grande Punto sits in the micromini category (somehow), and I'm 25 now and I only expect my premiums come down in price over the next year.
  • Chevrolet Epica - Chevrolet Epica diesel 1 year on 12 Aug 2011 (Forum)
So, now had the epica 12 months, For those of you who may not have read my owners review in Honest Johns used reviews, the story is as follows.. Aug 2010, searching for a fairly economical to buy new-newish car, looked at brand new kia ceed, then saw hyundai i30 classics a lot cheaper and went to look at a car supermarket (Ron Skinners) where i had previously bought a chevrolet aveo for an old friend. saw the epica in stock, all ex-chevrolet cars in lovely condition and a very attractive price. went home and researched a bit, and found my car for £6745 at Pentagon, Sheffield, 7021 miles on clock when i bought car over the phone, bit disappointed at the time about the condition the car was delivered in, but faults fixed under warranty and dealer service in swansea (FRF) excellent.
  • Where have all the good cars gone? 23 Aug 2019 (Forum)
I’ve recently viewed countless Fiesta’s, Mazda 2’s, Suzuki Swift’s and VW Polo’s with almost all having some very poor paint repairs that’ll soon become very tatty. The trade has changed markedly since I was selling new and nearly new stock. Most cars came back in good order and repairs were almost always up to insurance approved standards. It’s time dealers were harder on people returning cars in shocking condition like this and this starts with buyers of used cars being more careful and refusing to buy them.
  • Mini Cooper F56 (9/14 reg) - Brake pad replacement Mini Cooper F56 17 Jun 2017 (Forum)
In particular, if front pads for an R56 can be supplied AND fitted for a total cost of £115, why does it cost £102 +VAT just in labour charges to fit front pads on an F56 Before anyone goes down the "all Mini/BMW dealers charge top dollar...go to an independent and get the pads from Euro Parts etc. etc... yes I know that, but when the car is still under warranty, is covered by  a 5 year/50,000 mile TLC pack (from new) and is in for its first (TLC covered) brake fluid change PLUS the latest "Quality enhancement " (aka recall) for the axial bearing shells on crankshaft...and the dealer does a vehicle healthcheck and calls at 4pm and says "front pads 99% worn, rear pads 80% worn..and I can replace all of them by 5pm ........what would you do.......you wouldn't spend half a day getting other quotes would you ??
  • Nissan Almera (2000 - 2006) - - time to replace, but with what? 2 Jan 2010 (Forum)
I have a list as long as my arm of requirements, mostly because the Almera came so well equipped it will be hard to give up a lot of what I already have; and I try to add at least one more piece of equipment to the list with each car I have. Ideally, it will be smaller than the Almera. There's just two of us and we cover approx 10-12k a year, a large majority of city driving (around many roundabouts), with the occasional (1-2 times per month) 250 mile 'round trip to Bristol and back from MK.
  • Ford Mondeo III (2000 - 2007) - 2.0 TDCi - Fuel System and Brake Light Despair! 16 Nov 2007 (Forum)
Fords Customer Relations Department are useless and are just looking for a way to say that Ford's can do no more. Searched this Forum and found loads of similar stories - same thing - even accused of using dirty fuel as well. Help please - desparate - can't afford another car - still paying for this one! Really fed up with trying to fight my corner with this huge organisation - one Customer Relations person actually made my wife cry with her officious attitude.
  • Subaru Forester - First 2 months and 2,000 miles of ownership 27 Aug 2020 (Forum)
The restart is slower than the Merc and you have to ensure the car has restarted before putting the car into gear. In the early days I was sometimes too quick to put the car into gear and the car refused to restart until it was in neutral. Like most of these systems it can be turned off.
  • Suzuki Vitara - 13 months on 30 May 2025 (Forum)
It's a 1.6 auto SX5 (the 'posh' one...) allgrip on an 18 plate It was purchased from Tracks Exeter (Suzuki main dealer)  with about 30,000 miles and full (not all Suzuki) service history.  It was approved used, so still under warranty. I have had it serviced and MOTd at Howards in Weston Super Mare.  No problems at all and no advisories on the MOT I've put another 9,000.miles on it and, apart from the odd noise, had no problems.

  • Honda Accord Tourer (2003 - 2008) - Misfuelling - how to prove a negative? 13 Feb 2008 (Forum)
I also always use the same CC for payment, so I can corroborate that way. But, my question is, if they are starting to manouver to get out of repairing the car, how the hell do I prove that I haven?t put a small amount of petrol in there??
  • Focus 1.8 TDCI glow plug light flashing 29 Dec 2006 (Forum)
I have read reports of a TSB detailing problems of the nature i am having suggesting the fuel pump is to blame. I have since returned the car to the dealership and they called to say that the problem lies in the fuel rail and it will cost in excess of £600 to get fixed. I suggested that i have had an ongoing issue with the vehicle and not prepared to pay for the repair and it should be covered by warranty as the fuel problems i have had in the past have never been fixed.
