HJ's piece about the Zoe and its pricing got me thinking. There's a possibility that it could be a useful replacement for Mrs SDAs Yaris Verso auto.
The pricing looks good at around £14K and from the Renault website I think that includes 4 years servicing and warranty. BTW the Renault Zoe website is more style than substance, that's why I say 'I think'. If it is the case then it knocks about £500 off a 'normal' cars first 3 years costs.
Then they quote £70 a month to rent the battery, but that's for a nominal 6K miles a year. Mrs SDA's car does 7.5K miles a year regular as electronic clockwork. Nowehere does it say what different levels of battery mileage will cost, for all I know anything over 6K per year might cost double or more, or indeed the same. All the website says is that it's flexible.
Then there's the electricity to charge the thing, there's no mention of what that might cost, although if you charge at home it'll presumably get lost in your utility bill. There's also no mention of what remote charging at other sites will cost, presuming you can find one.
Then there's the wall socket which the website says can be installed by British Gas. Is that included in the car's price or is it extra and if so how much does it cost. They also say it can be installed 'in your garage', does this mean it can't be mounted outside?
Then there's colours. There's absolutely no mention of exterior body colour options and the only examples shown are white. Is this car going to be the negative to the original Mr Fords positive 'black only' policy?
I have discovered that it has a decent size boot for its size but that was from HJ not Renault and there are no pics of the boot anywhere to see whether it has a low lip and a level floor.
And lastly and probably most importantly, has anyone had a stab at an RV for the Zoe? After all its fine for it to be priced close to competitors, but if after 3 years it's only worth £2K then it's toast. And no puns about muffins, electric toasters or gas grills please.
