Toyota Camry (1996 - 2002) - 97 3.0 V6 engine interference or non interference? 4 Feb 2008 (Forum)
I've have recently sold both family cars (Honda Accord 2.0 i-VTEC sport / Mk1 Octavia vRS) and have bought a new Roomster 1.9 TDi. I've decided to run a "banger" as the second car and have bought a 1997 Toyota Camry 3.0 V6 with 92k miles. It is a 4th generation model (1997-2001) and has a full Toyota service history (last service was a "B" and was carried out February 2007). -
Honda Accord Tourer (2003 - 2008) - Warranty Repairs 1 Feb 2008 (Forum)
This ultimately led to a very difficult discussion where they have blamed the whole issue on Honda and feel badly towards me because they have lost money on the attempted repairs. Recently I took my car to another dealer with a cold running problem, which has been there for 4 weeks with no resolution. It would appear that the dealer is only working on this at quiet times as they are not reimbursed by Honda unless they carry out a recognised repair e.g. replace a faulty component. -
Washing paper air filter elements 31 Jan 2008 (Forum)
The LR Defender Tdi maintenance section says (only for elements not contaminated with oil or carbon deposits): soak the element for 15 to 60 mins in a solution of automatic washing machine detergent and water. Rinse in running water. Allow to dry naturally and dry fully before fitting. Do not attempt to clean a V8 air filter element. It must be renewed. The Mercedes manual states: blow out with compressed air first, soak for 10 minutes at 40 degC in washing solution specified in Service Products Specification Sheet 370 (which I can't find). -
Vauxhall Zafira A (1999 - 2005) - 2004 1.6 - spanner light on dash 31 Jan 2008 (Forum)
I drove the rest of the way into work (all downhill) with the light on, trying to use the accelerator as little as possible and when I stopped and restarted the engine in the car park, the light went out. Since then the car has run normally. This morning, again driving into work and this time almost coasting downhill with very little use of the accelerator, the light came on again. This time there was no loss of power to the engine and the car drove absolutely normally again. -
Ford Mondeo III (2000 - 2007) - 03 TDCi poor start and flashing glow plug light 24 Jan 2008 (Forum)
Went for a short drive. Engine hesitant/spluttered at about 2000rpm before revving higher. Very lumpy running of engine, but would idle. Turned engine off and restarted. Engine idles okay and revs fine up to the red line (in neutral). Drive 60 miles home. Engine sounds okay, glow plug light flashing all the time, do not have 130 horses under the bonnet. -
Volkswagen Passat (1988 - 1997) - 95 1.9 TD Glow Plug failure ? 13 Jan 2008 (Forum)
My '95 150K Passat always used to start instantly from cold, as soon as glow plug light had gone out, Now suddenly turns over & over & over before kicking into life in cloud of white smoke, then runs fine, and always starts well when hot. Suspect the glow plugs, don't know when they were last changed, certainly 40K+. I can feel relay clicking when ignition on & off, and appear to have power at glow plug feed. -
Peugeot 306 (1993 - 2001) - 98 electrical problems 6 Jan 2008 (Forum)
The switch on the drivers side has two wires connected but the hole in the body is too small to withdraw the switch without removing at least one of the wires so reconnecting could be a problem. I thought of running an extra cable from the fuse box but I don't know which place to connect it to. I am worried I will have to remove all of the dash to get to the back of the switch. The other problem is an annoying intermittent buzz coming from the direction indicator relay, I have changed the relay for a new one and of a different make but the buzzing continues. -
Ford Mondeo III (2000 - 2007) - 2002 TDCi (auto) judders when accelerating 31 Dec 2007 (Forum)
I've read about cam sensors, crank sensors, injectors, fuel pumps and even fuel filters, and to be honest, my head is spinning. I don't really want to run it into a garage since the last time I did (for the black smoke), I had it in 2 different ones and neither of them could locate the problem. Please help me? I want to get rid of the thing but can't in this state. -
Ford Fiesta (1989 - 1995) - 93 1.1 petrol. coolant sensor location 30 Dec 2007 (Forum)
Also still baffled why the car refuses to start on a new well charged battery yet will fire up tick over and run perfectly every time on a bump start 20 yard tow. Any help welcome. Many thanks -
FIAT Punto (1994 - 1999) - 1998 - battery boost - help needed 17 Dec 2007 (Forum)
Hi all, becasue of the cold weather i thought id give the battery of our fiat punto 60 (1998) a bit of a charge up today, as the car lives outside and only does short runs. It has been labouring to start recently and we probably need to invest in a new battery. Anyway i thought a nice task would be to remove it to the kitchen, give the case and terminals a clean up and put it on charge for a couple of hours. -
Volkswagen Passat (2001 - 2005) - (01-05) Confirming Cam Belt Timing 130 TDI 14 Dec 2007 (Forum)
I recently paid a reputable (but not main dealer) garage to replace the Cam Belt on my 130BHP TDI Passat. As soon as I picked the car up it didn't feel quite right. It wasn't running as well as when I took it in for the service. Just a bit of hesitation when pulling away at low revs, and sometimes a slight misfire (as if it were a cold petrol engine). Also fuel consumption appears to be worse. -
Peugeot 306 (1993 - 2001) - should i sell or keep my car? 14 Dec 2007 (Forum)
My train of thought is do I get another car now while I have some cash (and time to save up again before I buy a house) and while the car still has some value, or do I keep running it in the hope of it staying reliable (but taking into consideration the miles) any advise welcome. Also I have enjoyed the space of an estate and it came in useful a lot when I first bought it. -
Begging - On The Motorway!! 14 Oct 2007 (Forum)
We stopped, of course, Mrs V, lowered the window & we have a habit of locking the doors, as a matter of course (yes, we still live in Luton!!). Guy runs to the window, has a small business type card, proclaiming he's from Germany, shows the card (to identify himself), then has already started to slide a gold coloured ring from his finger, with the story of needing £$£$ for petrol!!! -
BMW 3-Series E46 (1998 - 2005) - - Blue smoke, anyone know a good indie in Leics ? 12 Oct 2007 (Forum)
Can anyone suggest a BMW specialist (not a dealer) who might be able to help with this - Leicestershire area - and say whether running the car could damage it. Thank you. Left in discussion rather than Tech in view of the last paragraph - PU -
SEAT Cordoba (1994 - 2003) - 02, 1.6 What to look for after 18 months off road? 11 Oct 2007 (Forum)
Personally I think it may be wiser to cut our losses, get rid and buy something that has been driven properly, but as that's not an option - I have little say on the matter - what checks would you advise making before taking the car out on the road? It seems to start, stop and run reasonably well on the farm track we have access to; the only obvious issues which have developed are a misfire and mould on the back seats presumably caused by damp. If I try to put my foot down under 3000rpm it hesitates for a few seconds, before chugging its way to 3k, after which it surges forward. -
Ford StreetKa (2003 - ) - Overheating warning and erratic fuel gauge 5 Oct 2007 (Forum)
Recently, the engine temperature warning light has been coming on sporadically, but there are no signs of overheating (no hot coolant smells, no steam or puddles, engine running/pulling fine). This has been joined in recent days by the fuel gauge behaving erratically. I am assuming, maybe incorrectly, that the overheating warning is false. Certainly, there are no signs as mentioned earlier. -
B1248(Yorks) Heads up - Accident Blackspot 22 Sep 2007 (Forum)
So good, old fashioned policing still takes place in Yorkshire: I had seen 3 traffic cars visibly parked up on the journey from Sutton bank already that day. I know the run to Helmsley is one of the best biking roads around, but, be careful out there, in all senses of the words, whether you're driving two wheels or four. -- Tim{P} ickle bit added to the subject line - PU -
Older diesel 4x4 recomendations ? 13 Sep 2007 (Forum)
Short list so far Discovery 300TDI Nissan Terrano 2.7TDI (or jap import Minstral equivalent) (not in fashion so cheap and reliable) Shogun/Pajero LWB (not keen on looks specially the Pajeros) Izuzu Trooper ( or bighorn jap import equivalent) looks dated to me and huge! Fuel consumption a concern as we run a Toyota rav 4 LWB mk1 and i hope to go a size up but with diesel power hope to retain similar economy or better. Real world advise on fuel consumption for any of the above or similar would be welcome. -
Peugeot - 306 d turbo starting problems 2 Sep 2007 (Forum)
The car has no glow plug light displayed on the dash at all. It has a major starting problem in mornings it just wont turn over. the starter is running but engine just wont tick over. I usually add this diesel starter spray i add in to the air intake at the front of the grill and it fires up, but a puff of white and blue smoke does burn from exhaust when it does start. i don't know what the problem is i have just done a full service on the car today as well changed the glow plugs oil air filter oil filter fuel filter as well. it just will not tick over at all if the car is cold. it does start later in the day without the spray being added but it does struggle to start usually takes 10secs. there also seems to be turbo lag on the car as well as well i have owned 2 other 306 d turbos and they seemed to be fine and pick up speed fine but this 1 has turbo lag and u really have to put the pedal to the metal to get it going, please help me guys thanks
